Is it better to order from 02 online or apple online?
so the general concensus seems to be Orange have much better 3g coverage than O2?Are there any conclusive stats on this?

At least I get O2 coverage in my area, orange is nonexistant.

I suggest buying from O2 online or Apple online.

I suggest buying from Apple online.

iPhone 4 is very nice

but the element that excites me the most is the Retina Display. I so want to see the RD employed on Apple's computers. If that happens, I'll upgrade everything pronto.

Until then, I will still most likely wait until my contract is just about up in September 2011 to upgrade to a new iPhone. I just don't have the $ now with at least another four years of school. And I'm trying to do less with the phone minimize data usage.

I'm moving from Orange to O2 because I rang up today about the iPhone tariffs and they wouldn't let me keep my regular tariff and instead after failed haggling they said best they could do to give same type of tariff was to charge me £5 more a month an put me on a 24 month contract. O2 can offer same monthly cost with unlim txts on a 18month contract for an iPhone...... simple choice for me

Ah right, erm, they might. If you get a nice CS rep, they'll probably, if you get a nasty, mean, fat, ugly, beastly, roary rep, then no :(

O2 UK + global? I don't think so.

What I mean is, it's not like their offices are closed for the night.

Definitely. This is the top feature for me. I can see it being part of the next iPad.

Tescos run on the O2 network and have much better deals on 24month terms. Plus if u pay a bit extra for the phone u can get it on a 12month contract. Works out a good bit cheaper.

They got the 3GS around the same time as Orange so hopefully they'll get the iPhone 4 as well

Interesting that when you go to iphone.orange.co.uk and click on "iPhone for you" it says the shop is undergoing essential maintenance. Hopefully back up with details soon.

Itching to know if there'll be a decent early upgrade option. Went with an 18 month contract on Orange the day they got the iPhone in November so hoping they'll be kind - and definitely not just give it to those whose contracts are up in 2010.

US Non-Committal price of $599 for the 16GB iPhone 4 seems to be in line with the projected £440/£450 UK PAYG price.

Roll on the 24th!

Bugger. That puts the 32gb at about £600

$700 = £480 ish
£480 plus VAT plus the mysterious 7% international Apple tax comes out close to 600

Apologies if the maths aren't quite right. It's late....

Let's hope the early upgrade thing doesn't involve a 24 month contract.

It will likey be the same as the current O2 3GS costs on PAYG. £449 for 16GB and £549 32GB plus the £10 top up they sting u for.

Tho i'm sure a few 3G ipad owners on ebay will u pay £30 for the PAYG microsim with 12months free web:D

I'm thinking of getting my iPhone 4 with orange.. Has anyone with orange had a bad experience with the 3G service or would people on orange recommend it?

Balls, I forgot about VAT. I was gonna spring for the 32gb. Ugh, I want o2 to update prices! It'll probably happen the night before pre-ordering or something, and then the site will crash.

Remind me of 3G, the site crashed, and didn't recover.

Not that I want spur the vitriol of us downtrodden brits and I know $ - £ rates must have changed considerably over the last three years ... But just thought I would recap approximate UK iPhone prices over the last 3 years. You'll have to forgive me, this is from memory, so feel free to correct me. But on normal £35 18 month contracts:

2007 iPhone 2G 8 Gb ~ £270
2008 iPhone 3G 8 Gb ~ £100
2008 iPhone 3G 16 Gb ~ £180
2009 iPhone 3Gs 16 Gb ~£180
2009 iPhone 3Gs 32 Gb ~£280
2010 iPhone 4 16/32 ~?

I would hope / pray that the networks dont try to fleece us further.

Now the massive reduction in price of the 3G was if I recall supposedly because the original iPhone was not subsidised and the 3G was.

But while US prices remained at $199 / $299 for the 3Gs, o2 decided they were just going to bump the (still subsidised) price by £100 on each model. If i recall this also was the advent of the pre-pay iPhone 32 Gb 3Gs for £540?

Also a factor is that the average £35 24 month contract now offers a similar £100 / £180 breakdown on the 3Gs, as the 3G used to have on an 18 month contract back in 2008

Now i'm not going to comment on if this is fair/justified/normal or whatever. I know there are factors of international pricing, carrier costs, Apples suggested pricing and much more, but its interesting to see how the prices have fluctuated over the years, and how you think the networks might price the next model.

Yeh. That sounds about right.

Gonna have to take the hit on this one and buy PAYG. That'll allow me a natural upgrade to iPhone 5

iPhone addiction is expensive.

Thats what I am contemplating doing. JUst going to wait to hear o2's upgrade offer.

Well o2's website clearly states that everyone gets a fair deal. Existing and new customers alike.

As soon as I see what this deal is thats when I can decided wether PAYGO is the better option!

If I was to start a 18 month or 24 month contract with O2 when iPhone 4 comes out and next year there was to be an upgrade of iPhone 4, like the 3G to 3Gs, would they offer me the upgraded phone or would I be stuck with iPhone 4 for the entire contract?

Nobody can answer that. Until yesterday, nobody knew that o2 would offer a limited early upgrade offer.

Who knows what they'd do next year.
