I've been onto my account manager who works as an independent for 4 major brands. He's told me he'll get me the prices as soon as he has them, however he's forecasting a small increase over the current 32Gb 3Gs price, which is currently £495+vat offline.

So O2 etc will be wanting to make around £600 out of you to off set the phone on a standard consumer contract

I had mine done a week ago, they dont hang around taking your free internet away, it was same day and they didn't tell me. The other £4.80 I had on the payg account went on data within 30 mins (£3 for 1MB). Yet it was almost a week before they unlocked it.

This is the exact same thing that happened to me last week! They say unlocking can take 'up to 14 days' but in reality it took two... and just like you, they didn't tell me in advance that my free internet had gone, so I chewed through £8 call credit literally overnight!
Normally I would try to fight something like that, but I just decided to let it go this time, even though I think that what o2 did was wrong.

Is there any chance to get an officially unlocked Pay as you Go iPhone 4?
I live in the UK but I travel e lot, especially to Germany and Netherlands and I'd like to use my own Sim cards there.
Anyone an idea about unlocked iPhones?

play.com sell them factory unlocked, they have so far with all the other iPhone the problem is the price that will sting ya wallet

I have had iPhone 3G since launch, and in February, my 18 month contract renewed.

I understand that there's no official word on O2 early upgrade offers yet but do you think that the fact that I'm so early on in my new 18 month contract will hinder my chances of upgrading?

*note* I haven't upgraded at all since getting my 3G 22months ago.

there is word of early upgrade from o2 they announced on there twiiter minutes after WWDC, saying limited time only on early upgrades

I didn't. I rang them and ripped into them quoting their own rules. Free internet will be withdrawn as a result of handset unlocking. I asked, is it unlocked..No he said. So I said you have removed a service I have effectively paid for with no warning for something you have not provided. He credited my account back there and then. Academic really as I had also applied for my number to be ported over. Soon as that happens (2 days) you loose and credit on you account with them.

Well I mean American designed products.

Yes? This is from Wikipedia :)

Unless you renewed it, you're just on a rolling contract and can cancel at any time which means you will be able just to get the new phone and sign up for a new fixed term contract.

Need some help ... I live in the south of ireland but I'm only 20 mins away from the north so can I get an iPhone 4 up the north and bring it down south?? Will 02 or apple in the north unlock it for me??

I am rather tempted to jump ship to Orange from O2.
I've been on O2's 35-a-month contract since 2008, been eligable for an upgrade for a while but stuck with my 3G, what do you think they will offer me. Will I have to pay the 180 for the handset? cause if that's the case and I get no benefits over a new customer I might as well just switch to orange and pay the same there.

It's unlikely that O2 will give existing customers any big preferential treatment because the pricing is so strict on iPhones.

If some of you still have your 3GS models O2 Recycle have an absolutely cracking deal on them!

I just sold my iPhone 3GS 16GB to them for £288.20, much higher than the other recycling companies and cuts out the hassle of eBay and Paypal fees, and held payments which Paypal would do on such a high value item!

The quote price is £263, up from yesterday by about £20, just use the code 'more4u' to get an extra 10%!

Now if they offered a discounted upgrade, we would all be laughing rolling about in £5 notes!

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for posting this. I hadn't considered selling/recycling mine as I thought it would only get £50 max (I really am clueless about these things) and not without a lot of hassle via eBay or something, but their rates are really good and it seems really simple. My 3G would have just been sitting in a drawer collecing dust but now I can put it to much better use! Cheers!

could anyone elaborate on the removal of the free data? Is it just for payg unlocking, or contracts too?

I have just submitted my request for an unlock of my contract 3g with an eye on moving it on, but I will be upset if I've also inadvertently done myself out of inclusive data.

I'm in exactly the same boat. I doubt they will offer a discount for me despite having been with O2 for 8 years, since they were bt cellnet and I'll get no loyalty discount. I've been happy with o2 and will get the same offers elsewhere it's just out of principle.
