Just spoke to Eldon Square Apple Store, got straight through and gave my name, very quickly told they have me on the reservation list, even told me what model I'd reserved.

Also confirmed they WILL keep it to one side til end of play Thursday.

Please forgive my ignorance but where are you getting iPhone 4 handset costs for Tesco from? Thanks.

I'm taking their current handset prices on the iphone 32gb 3GS contracts and adding £20 on top (since this appears to be what some of the carriers are doing with the iPhone 4)

apart from no visual voicemail i see not much downside of going to a tesco £20 per month 12 month contract.

Pro
Low monthly cost (£20)
Unlimited data (not capped currently)
Handset cost is £143 less than buying an o2 PAYG and putting the simplicity sim in.

Con
350 less minutes than o2 £20 simplicity 12 month contract
No visual voicemail

Personally being more of a texter/data user than a caller i can stomach the less minutes for the significantly lower upfront cost. Visual voicemail is a "nice to have" but realistically isn't worth the extra £143!

But o2 haven't released their prices for handsets yet?!

For those panicking about the whole micro-sim issues, and contract upgrades, the process for the day is;

Collect their reservation in-store for a contract.
Apple will set-up your new contract with your selected network in store
Provide you with a micro-sim and transfer you onto that (can take 24 hours for the transfer)

Walk out the store with your new iPhone4 all set-up on your selected network.

I was told that the white iPhones are pretty much 100% guaranteed NOT to be available on launch date.

Ah gotcha, well if your pricing turns out to be accurate then this will definitely be one of the best deals out there. Only time will tell :)

Only O2 does visual voicemail, but for everyone else there's an app called hullomail that does exactly the same thing, and it's free. I've yet to try it out (will do when I switch over) but apparently it works really well.

I started trying this yesterday, and like it (although on my JB 3g it's a little slow because it has to open an app). What I really like about it, though, is that if you're in a wifi spot but out of o2 reception (i.e. my house) and someone calls and gets through to voicemail, it still tells you you've missed a call.

Looking forward to setting it up properly on my iP4 on Vodafone...

TT

Well researched, thanks.

Any idea on how it will work for people purchasing the sim free ones as I'll be wanting to put my contract t-mobile sim in there.

Will they give me a blank one for me to phone t-mob and transfer myself or will they do it for me?

I've been looking at tescos as well. Though I'm now erring towards vodafone's sim only 12month deals as I can get quidco on them.

I'm already on Vodafone and was looking at the Quidco sim only deal. If I transfer via Quidco can I keep my number? Would I still need to get my PAC from Vodafone for when I order it through Quidco, even though I'm staying on the same network?

Just rang newcastle eldon square, the lass (ashley) was cool she told me what id ordered and said id have all day to get collect and i can do any option PAYG sim free or pay monthly on the day
she also said they would be likely to have white available on the day as well as extra black ones for walk-in customers.
