That's funny. I literally just hung up after getting my PAC code from them. They asked why I was leaving and I told them it was to switch to iPhone but I suppose it's a bit too soon for the sales operators to have been briefed and details are non-existent right now anyhow. I wonder if they're organised enough to give me another call in a few days, once pricing and tariff details are available, to have another go at stopping me leaving.

I really hope they offer a PAYG solution because that's what I use. I wonder if they'll match the O2 free WiFi and data plan for 12 months. If not then I'll probably switch to O2 anyhow because that's a sweet deal and, given that O2 will unlock the phone then if that's done after the 12 months of free data has expired it's simple enough to move to an alternate PAYG provider if they have a cheaper data bolt-on at that stage - or else just sell the phone and re-purchase another PAYG with the latest iPhone and hopefully get another 12 months of free data with the new deal. If resale prices hold up then that's probably a great way for someone who makes few voice calls to get the latest model every year and never pay any monthly data fees.

Did they not try and offer you and iPhone? They've been giving iPhones to high value customers and those leaving unofficially for a while now.

I used an iPhone on O2 PAYG for a couple of months when the 3G was released (while I was waiting for the unlock) and had loads of dropped calls. Dunno if it's been fixed now (in my are) but with Orange/T-Mobile roaming, I an only assume that is always gonna be a better bet.

Do people think that whatever o2 have up there sleeve wud involve trading in old iPhone? Someone has just offered me £400 cash for my perfect condition 32gb 3GS so could do that then either do o2's offer or buy iPhone 4 on pay & go.

Is 400 good offer??

Yes.

I sold a 32GB sealed box 3GS for £350 this morning....and you have the same plan as me ;)

I'd heard that. They didn't try that one, but I'm about as far from a high value customer as you can get. I got my PAYG card in November 2007 at which point I got the initial £10 credit and added another £50 to that for a total of £60 on the SIM. Now, over two and a half years later, I suppose that I'm just going to have to accept that if I move network then I'll lose the £21 of credit still remaining on my card.

What on earth am I doing looking at an iPhone you ask? Well, I view these things as more of a PDA that happens to have a phone feature in case of an emergency. I value the comfort of having that emergency feature which is why I haven't gone with a Touch, and I suspect that if I get a deal with free 12 month data then I might get hooked on the data access bit of it, but I don't think that I'll ever be one of those people who walks down the street with a phone glued to their ear.

I sold my 11 month old 32gbs 3GS white in excellent condition last week on Ebay for £447.00, it looks like I sold just in time since the resale value seems to be 'dipping' now :)

Well, I want that iPhone 4!

Few questions if anyone knows this yet:

1: Any news on Three UK selling the iPhone? I heard T-Mobile are, and 3 sell the iPad, so I'd hope they'd sell iPhone 4!

2: If not, could I still buy it from o2 and get it unlocked straight away?

I suppose if not for both I can jailbreak it to unlock it when one comes out :)

Good times!

I vowed to never use ebay for selling again, its just full of knobs now... my time and stress levels are worth way more than the extra cash i'd make!!

How much were you left with after the usual eBay , pay pal charges???

I have just done the same thing. Had a 16gb 3G for a while and o2recycle.co.uk offered me £198 for it (down £8 from last week) which was the most out of those phone recycling sites. Expecting to loose 5-10% for general wear and tear on the handset.

I may have got slightly more on ebay, however as it was an already second hand handset, I don't have a box, documentation etc and couldn't be bothered with the hassle. Sent it off this morning so I'm iphone-less for the next 16 days. Thought it was best to get it off before prices plummet!

I am on an o2 simplicity online tariff (Not iphone simplicity, £20 per month, 1200 texts, 600 minutes, unlimited data) and am hoping to get on a contract and pay around £200-250 for the phone. I am quite happy with o2 but if I can't get a similar contract that doesn't break the bank each month then I'll be looking at both orange and vodafone very carefully!

EDIT: You don't have to be an o2 customer or have an o2 iphone to use o2recycle and they are still offering the best prices I have seen online.

hey. looking at your prices. try envirofone.com. they are offering more than o2!

Thats a good point. I'd like to know this

A transaction worth around £400-£450 would attract in the region of £40 charges and like £5-£7 postage for posting the iPhone with insurance (advisable).

I sold my iPhone 3GS for £420 + £7 P+P and came out with about £380 when all was said and done. Not too bad IMO.

A 32GB 3GS will probably sell for like £375 now and will steadily go down to £300 by the end of the year probably.

I just sold three HTC desires totalling over £1000 and eBay have invoiced me £27.38. PayPal is another 3.4% on top of that, I believe.

Thats a good point. I'd like to know this

I sold my iphone 3gs 16gb for £423 on ebay about 1 month ago and for some reason ebay didnt charge the normal 10% final value fee, i think if you sell your phone over a certain amount ebay wont charge you, but the paypal fee was about £15 so i was left with £408, i didnt have to pay postage as the buyer was local :)

I am currently in a similar situation Westyfield - I am hoping to get hold of an iPhone 4 through more or less the same procedure you used to get a 3GS last year.

Assuming O2's mysterious 'special upgrade eligibility' doesn't apply to me, I'm hoping to sell my 32GB iPhone 3GS through O2 recycle (for ~£265), keeping hold of the £35ppm contract sim that it came with. Then, hopefully buy an iPhone 4 on PAYG (for ~£550), stick in my current sim and carry on with my current contract, the only upfront cost being the ~£250 difference between what I get for my 3GS, and the PAYG iPhone 4.

Anyone have any thoughts on this plan (ie. spotted any major flaws)? Anyone intending to follow a similar path? Thanks

I'm doing exactly that but going to sell my 3GS privately as I will hopefully get around £350 and pay the difference to get a PAYG iPhone 4 and cut my current sim of hopefully get a new microsim with the same number off o2

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Think I'll try eBay the night, always got mazumo to fall back on as I have the free post envelope in front of me and has to be with them by June 21st.

Got my 3G S up for sale. Not using eBay as i don't want to pay the ridiculous fees

If it sells, i'll be in line on the 24th :D

Depending on what the O2 "special offer" thing is for current customers, I'll probably do the same.

I have signed up for interest to Orange and will be keeping my fingers crossed they offer a reasonable pay as you go price for the 16gb'er

If not will see if I can move from my sim only iphone contract to a 18 month one and start paying extra per month.

Hope we see some payg prices soon. IIRC, last year o2 had them up either the evening of WWDC or the evening after, can't remember which.
