Right, preorders, are you prepared for the next few days?

Just following on from my earlier comment. People are moaning about losing Unlimited Data because all O2 have done is remove "Unlimited" from the wording. It always had a fair use policy, so the reality is that if you've never received a warning about your usage, then you're not going to breach these new "caps" when they come into play.

thumbs up for this, thats pretty much how i am with the forums but each time i refresh im hoping to have someone link me to a provider who says they will be selling unlocked phones on launch day and they have >9000.

Its gonna happen.........

If you downgraded before the 24th then NO you would not lose your unlimited data as the contracts don't change until after 24th

I was able to downgrade this afternoon and keep unlimited data so i can't see why the same wouldn't apply to you

I think it's brilliant that O2 are favouring existing customers. If new customers want O2 they'll only have to wait a couple of weeks, and this is a massive show of loyalty.

haha, yeah right! With the amount of people desperate for the iphone 4, I seriously doubt someone is going to be happy to "just wait a couple of weeks" (which btw is more like 5-6 weeks) so they can sign up to the same plan as Orange or Vodafone but with less data!

I agree that O2 are at least being more communicative than the others, but it seems like they're making some big mistakes too! I used to quite like them, but there's no way that I'm going to sign up with this blatant disregard for giving the customer what they want. (Namely fairer pricing and a reasonable data limit, as well as letting consumers by the phone if it's in stock!)

I think it is kinda funny though that there are so many people eager to give their cash to whoever will take it and nobody seems to want it :D

Just rang upgrades again to double check- even if you request your PAC code, as long as you don't use it you will be fine to upgrade on the 24th. It's been sent to me, but will absolutely nothing unless I hand it to another provider and then the wheels will be set in motion for cancelling the account.

The funny thing about the people moaning about losing Unlimited data is that they won't even be using as much as the new caps being brought it.

Speaking as someone who only uses about 200MB per month (I was quite shocked when I found out) but went mental when he heard about the cap, I have to say you're right! However, a) that's not the point, it's the principal and b) data usage could well increase with new apps, movies to upload and video calling (when it comes of wi-fi only).

I guess it's just nice for peace of mind, even if you can't get anywhere near 500MB!

I'm on a 30 day simplicity tariff but have been with o2 for 13 years. Am I a pay monthly customer or PAYG? Will I be able to go buy a handset at launch in an o2 shop?
Pay Monthly. Yes you will be able to buy an iPhone 4 at launch day (stocks permitting).
Doesn't look like it...Simplicity isn't considered contract...sim only is treated the same as PAYG!
No. See below.
I thought it was considered a monthly contract since you set up a direct debit. It's not pay as you go.
It is a monthly contract.

Simplicity 30 Day and Simplicity 12 month tariffs are considered to be Pay Monthly.
You pay via Direct Debit…
Also 12m and 30d Simplicity tariffs are included in the Pay Monthly smartphone tariff table.

Top Up is as the name suggest: Top Up… any amount you want, whereas with these you are bound to a certain amount each month.

Edit: Based on the O2 website and two (only) calls to customer service.

Also (and maybe a plus point) even if you go over the 500mb allowance O2 will not charge you a penny. All they will do is throttle the speed until your next months allowance starts again. (not sure how slow but i imagine it would be ok for web , but tv or Youtube would be crippled)
You can however add another 500mb for £5 or 1GB for £10

Vodafone and orange will charge you a crazy amount per mb as soon as you go over your limit whearas O2 will just throttle speed and also send warnings via txt when you are coming to end of your limit.

Well I imagine they're trying to keep hold of you, or are misinformed. I'll be pretty annoyed if it's true.

I was lied to by O2. Pretty annoying that they have customer service who would do that, but I've got the PAC code requested now and I was told if I wanted to stay with O2, I could upgrade next Thursday in an O2 store.

Ironically, the lie has made you less likely to want upgrade with them anyway I imagine?!

Advice?

Hi, sorry if this has been covered. I'm too lazy to read through the gazillion pages on this topic.

* Which of the networks has the best chance of good indoor reception? I have 02 now and it is no good in this regard.

* Pre-order is Apple store only, right? No phone companies, yet?

* Is there any advantage on any network of having two phones that call one another regularly on the same network? In this case, my contract is up and I want to switch but my partner has to buy out of contract and stay with 02.

* Strategies for getting them from phone shops on the day in London? Are there differences between the phone companies in this regard?

THANK YOU

"What if I'm not an existing O2 customer?

We'd love you to join O2, however we always try to give our existing customers priority. As soon as we are able to, we will offer iPhone 4 to everyone who wants one on O2."

Ouch! That'll cost 'em!

To be fair with demand outstripping supply some people are going to miss out and O2 are going to have to upset some people. At least O2 is showing some customer loyalty with this.

They still haven't released unsubsidised prices for phones so I very much doubt Simplicity customers will be able to pick one up at launch anywhere other than the Apple store....

If PAYG is 'coming' but not at launch, I'd expect Simplicity to be the same?

Have O2 released info the the contrary?

What happens at the end of my 12 month simplicity plan?
Will i:-
a) convert to 30 day rolling simplicity contract and be charged £5 extra a month and keep my unlimited data as i haven't asked to change my currebt package?

b) Will my account stop?

c) Will they change me to 30 day rolling and put me on new tariff of 500mb cap

It was never unlimited though mate, it was cleverly worded.

There was never an actual "number", but the fact there was a fair usage policy meant it was capped at some point ... we just didn't know which.

However, I used to sit and watch Sky Sports News at the train station every morning, browse Safari on the train, and use TV Catchup to watch Deal or No Deal on the train home ... and I never got a warning about data use.

I should be fine ... although it's looking like I might struggle to pick up my iPhone 4 on July 24th if that pre-order date continues to slip further and further back.

Anyone here going to be at the Glasgow store? If so have you reserved or hoping to to purchase iphone from general stock? If you have reserved, what time you going down? If you haven't reserved, what time you going?

I'm going to try get a lift in and maybe be there when doors open, will this be okay since i have reserved? If not i could walk from my house to the store, could leave at about 6am and get there for around 7. What would be better do yous think?

Im going to Glasgow store. Have a reservation, printed it out but I still have a fear that unless im one of the 1st in the queue im no gonna get one....my original plan was to go up for about 7 30am but now im thinking to try for earlier, hubby & I can sit in the car & see if anyone is waiting, then decide from there, people waiting? then I will go wait & hubby can park the car. We can make a day of it, have starbucks etc!! will be exciting I think as every other year I have had the iphone delivered on launch day!!

Well, we shall have to see.
All they have said is that Pay Monthly customers will be able to get a phone launch day… (and as far as their own definition stretches, Simplicity 30d and 12m tariffs are Pay Monthly)
If not then *shrug* I'll wait.
;)

Like the rest of you I'm excited about getting my new iPhone next Thursday.
Just been looking through what you need to bring on apples website and I'm somewhat confused.

Firstly it says for payg you need a debit or credit card with account number or sort code. I was wanting to pay by cash, can I do this.

Secondly it says orange and o2 only. What's that about.
Hope someone can clarify for me

Proably already been covered but ain't looking through over 7k posts!!
