so do you think that means the Orange alarm bells will start ringing if you're watching youtube videos? or catch-up TV as WeegieMac says? sorry if they're speculative questions but just wondered if anyone had any experience... ta!

I guess in theory they can monitor all of our data usage, but I would think that in general, if there's an Apple supported feature like youtube, they won't be calling you on that, as surely that's precisely what the data plan is meant for! Did you read that article a few pages back about whether or not most users would go over the 500Mb O2 cap? They had one user at over 10GB a month, which equates to 6 hours of iplayer streaming each day! Hopefully you should be ok with 'normal' usage.

I would think that in general, jailbroken tethering would probably be cool for browsing too!

Called O2 and got my PAC code. Think im going to sign a new contract with Orange on their 24 month £35 tariff. 32GB handset price is £219 that way, and we retain the unlimited (with FUP) data. And Orange Wednesdays, which is always cool.

This is exactly what I'm planning on doing. Just waiting for Three to release their tariff so I can decide finally. Although that 1GB limit on Vodaphone is quite tempting. Exactly the same price as Orange, just a bit more data and without the Orange Wednesdays. Definitely won't be staying with O2.

Wife and I were tempted by Vodafone, but our network coverage at work is horrendous.

I would love to see what Three are offering into the mix, but i dont expect them to have anything in place with Apple by Friday, certainly not for new contracts at the store. Unless anyone thinks any different?

So I was just looking at the Orange prices, and the footnote for unlimited data and unlmited wifi says:

"* Separate Fair Usage policies of 750MB / month apply to both BT Openzone WiFi and Mobile Internet Browsing."

Does that mean that there's one 750MB FUP for 3G and another 750MB FUP for wifi? It seems like it to me! Just thought I would point it out for anyone unsure about whether to go vodafone or Orange - if you're around wifi hotspots a lot you essentially double your FUP :)

Exactly how i read it too. Very rarely get the chance to use a BT Openzone wifi hotspot though.

I'm with Orange and thats how I understood it.

On a side note I ordered my new iPhone on the 16th and got an estimated delivery of the 5-6th of July which is disappointing.

Yeah, I guess it depends where you are, but in Birmingham there's a huge coverage that always pops up when I take my macbook pro into town. Is there any way to use the mobile account on a computer though? I would think that we're actually getting a free btopenzone account, so hopefully it is a user/pass jobby, and maybe a proxy server? It would be nice, but perhaps wishful thinking!

so if simplicity contracts are considered pay monthly and pay monthly customers can get an iPhone on launch day then how exactly do simplicity customers get the phone as there is no pricing for it???

According to the FAQ on Orange, you set your mobile network and then type your phone number and password, so it must load a specific screen for mobiles, and be able to differentiate. I wonder if changing user agent in the Safari 5 Develop menu would make this likely to work?

I would consider that the only way you can get a phone is if you upgrade to a contract for which there are handset prices issued...:(

I haven't reserved. My friend works at victoria square and he said they won't have any stock for people that just turn up, but he's probably full of c*ap:rolleyes:

It would be nice if Apple could confirm that....would save queuing and a lot of pissed people!

The whole point of SIMplicity is the network do not supply you with a phone, you only have a sim card. That's why it's so cheap as they're not subsidizing the price of the phone into the contract. It's up to you to supply the phone by buying it sim-free or on Pay&Go :).

I take it this was the iPhone 3gs?

Wait forget that :p

well respoke to orange today and a little warning to anyone lookin to get their PAC Orange will charge you regardless of if you use your pac code or not if your in contract.

This is the same as T-Mobile. Call them when you are still in contract and ask for your pac code. They will quote you a fee and then if you agree they give you the pac there and then. However at the same time they also add the fee to your bill. So your early cancellation fee is calculated on the day you request the pac, not the day that it gets used.

I asked what would happen if you never use the pac and T-Mobile were unable to say. One person said that I would still be charged and another that the money would be credited to my account.

So I just tried to get my PAC code from O2 incase I decided to go with another network next week and I was told I wouldn't be able to upgrade with O2 until the PAC code expires (which is 30 days). Wish Three would release their damn tariffs!

That sounds daft to me. There has been many times i have requested a pac code from a network, sometimes as a way to get offered a better deal to stay but seriously? you cany upgrade until it expires? Somehow I dont quite believe thats true!
