First day sell out?

So I want to get the new iPhone, who doesn't right?

I have an exam at 9-11. Does anyone have any idea or thoughts on when the iPhone will sell out in respected retailers (Orange, Carphone warehouse, Phone4U)

I really want to get it but don't wanna get down there to be horribly disappointed...

All replies are welcome!

Fellow Belfastians,

I went to O2 in Castle Court and VS, and they both said they had the microsims in stock but couldn't give them out until Monday. The CC branch said you needed to bring proof (email, etc) that you have reserved an iPhone with Apple, but the VS branch said you didn't need to.

Btw, the staff laughed when I asked them for a microsim, which I took to mean that a lot of people had been in asking... Did anyone here ask for one, perchance?

The Belfast stores aren't giving them out, but I have a frie d got one from Lisburn and I got one last night and my wife got one this morning from e Bloomfields store in Bangor. We both have our numbers transferred to the new microsims so we're ready to go on Thursday, where I plan on being at the Apple store from about 5am.

I know Apple have confirmed that you can upgrade in store, but I just want to check something.

I'm on an O2 online pay monthly contract, with another year to run, and have a 32 iP4 reserved for collection on thursday. Will I be able to take up the O2 deal of paying off my remaining contract at £20 per month and then take out another O2 contract for 18 months. So I would be paying the early upgrade fee, plus the cost of the the phone. Reckon that would be possible?

On the 15th Apple opened the pre orders for the iPhone 4 from their website to receive it on the 24th June. I didn’t pre order because I thought I would get it from o2 on the day since they said it would be available on PAYG at launch (and the PAYG version is usually a bit cheaper than Sim Free, and I don’t need it unlocked as I’m with o2) so, i thought i would wait.

So two days passed and apple sold over 600,000 pre orders and now the next delivery date for a pre order is the 15th JULY!!! Another MONTH!! To make things worse, o2 changed the info on their website saying Pay As You Go will no longer be available at launch, another few months’ time. GREAT. So I could have pre ordered on the 15th and got it on Thursday. Now I have pre ordered and it’s going to be delivered in a MONTH!!!

So I went to the apple store and spoke to one of their staff to ask about how many will be in stock, and he was like "I can’t tell you anything, its secret" so i was like omg, it’s a phone. He said people will be cueing from 4am on the 24th and there will be a limited amount in stock.

So, I have it pre ordered for a MONTHS time, but I am going to go down on Thursday early (they open at 8) and cue up like a geek.

But after all, I suppose it only is a phone. I'm just annoyed because I could have pre ordered on the 15th anyway and cancelled it if I acquired it elsewhere. So I’m kicking myself! Haha! But, Apple act like it’s the Holy Grail, and o2 don’t have a clue about anything - I seemed to know more about their tariffs than they do.

Rant over

As much as i understand this users frustation, i have to agree with the following quote ...

Why didn't you just do what the rest of us did and reserve one on the 15th, just in case the Networks don't have it or what ever? Would have been the sensible thing to do, that was you could have always backed out in the event of something going tits up, like this...

Thats what i did :) would have found myself in the same situation of the first quoted user.

Amen :)

could you link me as i cant find the 30 rolling plan... with unlimited data.

and are you sure their cap is 3gb? i think that will suffice.

But im not sure that i can get it before the 24th which is a shame...

edit: yes i am getting it sim free :D

edit 2: can u get pwned for chopping up your sim so it is microsim size? or using a sim(which wasnt for use with an iphone) which was microsimmed to use in an iphone? i wouldnt like to be pwned by a carrier...

You can chop up your sim, but it would be best to try and get one from a store if you can. Go into an O2 Store, with your iPhone reservation Email. ;) Try your best to get there before Thursday so you can be sure to get the 'unlimited internet' or it will drop to 500mb.

Unless you want 2 iPhone 4's than no because the early upgrade offer requires you to sign another 18 month contract and pay for the phone that comes with it. And since you reserved one from the apple store, i assume you'll be taking that one too.

I presume if your just upgrading and already with 02 and ready to start a new contract, all you can do is rock up on thursday morning?

Does anyone know if you select a high tariff and then put it down within 14days that you then just pay for the handset more.

(Ie you paid 29 quid on the day but moved to a tariff that cost 119)

you'll be best off visiting all your local phone shops and seeing if you can put your name down, tell them what time you think you'll be in, if it you'll not have any chance of getting one :)

I'm all confused and I was wondering if someone could help.

I have an iPhone out of contract and I'm currently on a rolling contract using O2 Simplicity for iPhone (a 30-day rolling contract).

I would like to get a new iPhone 4G and I have reserved one in my local Apple Store.

I would like to take out a new contract (18 months) and cancel my current 30-day rolling contract. How do I do this? Do I simply sign myself up for a contract in the Apple Store with O2?

Do I need to buy one from an O2 store? How likely would I be to get one going into an O2 store at 9am on launch day?

Erm perhaps I wasn't being clear enough. I will be signing up to another contract and paying for the phone (at the subsidised rate). When I reserved the iPhone it asked whether I want pay as you go, contract etc., and I selected the upgrade option.

id go as far to say that turning up during opening hours on launch day will mean you WILL NOT get a phone, im sure even some who queue up for hours wont get one!!!!!

im sure the networks had all originally planned to do pre-orders like apple did, but i think apple pulled the stock so now the networks have been caught on the back foot. hence the confusion everywhere!!!!!

i really wouldnt expect to get one if you havent pre ordered though

I think you can only do the early upgrade offer in O2 stores, so you can't do it at Apple.

I got a tweet this morning from vodafoneuk:

@Vodafone UK @VodafoneUKdeals
@hoppipolla *Does happy dance* if you need any help once the pre-order tool is on the website then let me know! :) ^BH

So it looks like they are gonna take pre-orders soon!

For those of us not near an apple store, their is no way to pre order one if an existing customer bar turning up first thing on thursday morning!

im on iphone simplicity too, as far as i know, you just start a new contract.

I love how people are complaining that they have to wait till July 14th when i have to wait nearly double that until July 29th :( consider yourselfs lucky

I'm complaining I have to wait until July 2 for the thing to have shipped, and the 5/6th to see it at home.
