I just hope some network would offer iphone 4 on PAYG with 12 months free internet (hopefully unlimited but seems unlikely...) just like O2's on 3GS. It's a shame that O2 won't do it with iPhone 4 upfront this time. Since I have another contract on Blackberry with plenty mins and txt, all I need iPhone 4 for is data. Any suggestion guys?

Have you missed Orange's PAYG Plans: http://iphone.orange.co.uk/plans/

250mb internet a month free for 12 months.

mmm you could try using an ipad sim in the iPhone 4?

It's been 3 years since I was on Three, and at the time I wasn't really impressed.

I don't know if they have sorted it out, but when you used to leave a 3G coverage area, and go into a 2G area, calls were dropped and had to be remade. I found this on three handsets from Nokia, LG and Samsung so ruled out it being a hardware issue.

For the areas I live, work and play, I would put 3G coverage as;
Vodafone > Orange > T-mobile > O2 > Three

so quite a different experience to you.

I do however feel that T-mobile is very good across europe so if you travel a lot, worth considering.

Phil

Hi Phil,

Would you mind me asking what your area is? Rural, town or city? I wasn't stating my experience, but I forgot to state the source of my statement - the January 2009 Ofcom sampling of all the networks, which put orange and three 3G coverage clear in the lead. Of course this doesn't necessarily translate to real world performance and bandwidth, but it's a good indicator of coverage at least.

No network offers unlimited data now, but you could also go on the 3 sim only plan, you can get 'unlimited Internet' and free 3-3, voicemail, twitter, msn all for a fiver a month on a 30 day a month rolling contract :)

OK!!!.... Here's my RANT!

On the 15th Apple opened the pre orders for the iPhone 4 from their website to receive it on the 24th June. I didn’t pre order because I thought I would get it from o2 on the day since they said it would be available on PAYG at launch (and the PAYG version is usually a bit cheaper than Sim Free, and I don’t need it unlocked as I’m with o2) so, i thought i would wait.

So two days passed and apple sold over 600,000 pre orders and now the next delivery date for a pre order is the 15th JULY!!! Another MONTH!! To make things worse, o2 changed the info on their website saying Pay As You Go will no longer be available at launch, another few months’ time. GREAT. So I could have pre ordered on the 15th and got it on Thursday. Now I have pre ordered and it’s going to be delivered in a MONTH!!!

So I went to the apple store and spoke to one of their staff to ask about how many will be in stock, and he was like "I can’t tell you anything, its secret" so i was like omg, it’s a phone. He said people will be cueing from 4am on the 24th and there will be a limited amount in stock.

So, I have it pre ordered for a MONTHS time, but I am going to go down on Thursday early (they open at 8) and cue up like a geek.

But after all, I suppose it only is a phone. I'm just annoyed because I could have pre ordered on the 15th anyway and cancelled it if I acquired it elsewhere. So I’m kicking myself! Haha! But, Apple act like it’s the Holy Grail, and o2 don’t have a clue about anything - I seemed to know more about their tariffs than they do.

Rant over :)

i sympaphise jason :)

i had a nightmare with the ordering..... kept crashing.....
charged me £10,000 for the dock!!!!!!!!!!! and everything nearly cancelled it and waited for the networks, glad i held on in there now as like you id of been screwed

I was hoping to get one from o2 aswel on PAYG, and was also told over the phone that they will be available on launch day, then found out via their site it wouldnt. So.... i went down the ebay route and got a 16gb for £600! for me to collect on friday as its only 2 stops via train. Although i paid £100 more im a very happy bunny.

250mb internet a month free for 12 months.

Yeah I saw that but frankly 250mb is just way too little. I asked a friend of mine who's currently on iPhone 3GS with O2, he doesn't really watch any youtube or any data-intensive apps, still use about 400mb a month just for maps and stuff like that.

I got lucky that I managed to reserve one sim-free handset at apple on 24th June, wonder if O2 would come up with something like free internet (500mb a month) for 12 months. But then if I don't buy the handset from O2, I wouldn't be able to get on this even if they do, right?

This makes me worry they might run out of stock for reservations, especially with the rumours that there's been some supply issues.

Will I be able to set up a new O2 contract in the Apple store when I get my reservation and will they give me a micro sim? Or will I have to set up a contract beforehand and just stick my sim in the iPhone?
Edit: sorry, meant reservations, not preorders

As long as you have already reserved you have nothing to worry about according to the bloke in apple.

And yes you will def be able to set up a new tariff inshore on thurs. Although be prepared for a wait as they will only be using 4 terminals to process all the contracts. That's why I think I might go down after work on Thurs. Hopefully let the chaos die down a bit!!

anyone who pre ordered from apple store uk got their shipping status to prepared for shipping? everyone else on the other thread who has their shipment prepared is from the us -.-

a few questions i reckon some people still want to know.

1. how fast will 250mb be used from playing games on the iphone (online multiplayer ofc)

2. are there any carriers who make a cheap cheap cheap contract which has unlimited internet, don't care much for the texts and minutes.

3. is there a chance that the iphones will be delivered earlier than the website says ( only 2nd july and 14th july, i know theres no chance of the 24th being delivered earlier)

4. Which bumper colour will look good on a black iphne?

No you would have to buy the phone on O2 PAYG which isn't going to be available until July now.

Mines still not shipped, I don't think its anything to worry about though as they may send them out from China to somewhere else (possibly the netherlands because most orders from China pass through there) and then ship them individually afterwards. So it wouldn't show as prepared for shipment until this stage.

Phones4u are taking £5 deposits as they are guaranteeing the pre-orders for launch day, and matching stock to the amount of pre-orders they are taking.. I've called around at least 7 stores locally and they are all saying the same thing.

I've checked over and over and over again and they are saying that an iPhone 4 will be guaranteed for launch day.

Also they are taking pre-orders for the 32GB but I they have all told me they are not taking pre-orders for the white iPhones!
