To all the "experts", in theory there is no reason why an "iPad" micro sim won't work inside an iPhone (4) -they are physically manufactured in the same way and are identical in their capabilities. I mean what, do you think they leave the "voice" part out when they are making the sim or something?
I'd like to know how that happens, lol.

The only thing that might prevent an iPad sim working in an iPhone is the way it has been configured or activated for use on an iPad -or indeed, certain sims could be "blocked" for non-iPad use (by identifying IMEI numbers in use, maybe?).

I just wanted to clear this up as this thread is going around in circles, and to be honest it is getting a bit tedious reading the "expert" opinions of some people, who, quite honestly, don't have a clue.
:D

i know people are debating whether ipad sims will work in iphone 4.....but i have another question.....what about the other way round...will the microsims with the iphone work with the ipad?? i'm debating getting an ipad as well but i dont wanna have 2 seperate data plans.

as long as the SIM hasn't been activated, I see no issue.

I am assuming that it locks the final provisioned profile onto the SIM.

OK

To be perfectly clear. A sims info can be ported to any sim 1ff, 2ff or the 3ff used in the iPAD.

An iPAD DATA SIM will not work in an iPhone4.

Just because you have a sim working in a currently released phone there is no grounds to speculate that it will instantly work in another (as yet unreleased) unit. However as you have ported a voice profile it is likely it will. Manufacturers and MNO's can set many things in a phones profile to offer enhanced restrictions. APN's being just one of them. IMEI's being another.

But you must be clear lest people think their iPAD sims will work in the iPhone4. They wont.

Finally you are not living proof that an "iPAD SIM" works in an iphone merely living proof that a minisim works. Nothing new in that.

I think I have my myself clear in my last post. Clearly I know nothing in your eyes.....

Guys since following this thread from the start its been a nice friendly place! Lets not ruin it now with arguing over the micro-sim :)

Please provide proof. The site says they aren't interchangeable. Doesn't say it won't work. Do you have an iPhone 4 to prove this? pics please.

I am not saying, with certainty that it will work in the iPhone 4. I am saying that it is currently working in the iPhone, and therefore, by deductive argument, it may work or be fully functional, but not partly, in the iPhone 4.

As do you with regards to the general SIM or the SIM with a profile on it.

I am proving than a micro-SIM, which was meant for use with the iPad, is currently functioning perfectly fine in an iPhone. I will correct you slightly. I am currently using a micro-SIM in the shell of it's brother, the mini-SIM, thus, it is still a micro-SIM. Thus, proving that the micro-SIM, does function in the current iPhone line up, from the original iPhone upwards.

Pre-auth, I'm sure is them taking money out, and placing it back in - aka you've pre-ordered. Your iPhone should arrive by the 2nd of July if you ordered it on the 16th.

oh right...i didnt submit any bank details, they've not taken any money. It was simply an email saying I can pick it up on the 24th June. But it does say at the bottom its on a first come first serve basis. Am I guaranteed one as probably wont be able to make it down until at least 12pm

OK look I'm not trying to pick a fight I thought I made myself clear. Obviously I didnt.

So: A micro sim is a micro sim and knows nothing until its programmed.

An iPAD sim (i.e. a data sim you are using in your iPAD with a data contract) will not work in the iphone4.

Is that simple enough?

You have evidently merely ported your phone sim over to a micro sim. Can you see the difference?

The iPad SIM does work in the iPhone. I'm living proof of it.
That did imply that it was a sim out of your iPAD as opposed to a simple blank micro sim?

And with regards to "iPhone" we are in a forum talking about iPhone4 so perhaps some initial clarity would have helped....

do you know how the o2 contract upgrade/renewal system works?
do i have to go to the o2 store to sign stuff or can i buy a handset from anywhere then renew and select my contract options online or in iTunes now? cos that would be way cooler.

Easy, i checked this out today.

Get the phone from anywhere (even the apple store) and they will give you exactly the same deal as your network provider including the discount on the phone (depending upon which contract you choose). i'm going for the 24 month contract at £35 per month and paying £119 for the phone at the apple store cos i reserved it last week, hopfully i'll get my confirmation email.

Are you going with o2? Know if you can do the early upgrade offer at the apple store?

Let's clear some of this up.

O2 iPad micro sims do not work for contract customers. I ordered one a few days ago (and already have a micro-sim adapter). It arrived yesterday so I filled out the relevant forms on the O2 site which seemed to go through fine, yet the iPad sim has not become active. I am a contract customer trying to put my iPhone contract tariff onto the microsim.

Its been suggested that an unactivated iPad sim should theoretically work. Of course, I agree or I wouldn't have bothered trying but the fact is that, for contract customers, it doesn't.

The reason I believe this to be the case is because iPad data sims appear to be delivered pre activated. I don't know all the technical detail but putting the iPad micro sim into a phone you get a carrier signal and a data signal (GPRS in my case). If the micro sim was completely deactivated then I don't believe this would be the case. Perhaps its because you're supposed to be able to use iPad micro sims (in an iPad) to connect to O2 and sign up to a data tariff that they come partially preactivated.

I hope that's conclusive enough for you. It should work but it doesn't.

wish i'd knows this earlier, i'd have reserved a phone on the apple store if i didn't think you had to pay £599 for the 32GB model. figured the Apple store just sold the phone with no subsidy like when iPhone came out.

Quick question

I've reserved two iPhone 4's on two separate Apple ID accounts, would I be able to let my partner upgrade their O2 contract with the early upgrade offer with one of the reserved iPhones and, whilst I change contract from O2 to Orange with the other reserved iPhone?

Sorry if this is a bit confusing

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Not sure about that one. The apple store gave me better info than o2, so i would call them to check rather than o2. Or call both to be sure.
