It's long, but it needs paragraphs.

O2 will attempt to upgrade, not cancel the contract.

I can't tell what will happen in Exeter, but, most likely, there won't be much stock, thus your mother will need to be quick to get there. The process shouldn't last longer than 30 mins, and total time depends on queue and stock.

I doubt there will be stock at 1620, but it might be worth for her to go and have a look, or call after the conference.

This is why, I preordered online.

I will say one thing though. If anybody at the Exeter store has "reserved" a phone, if they don't turn up for it then it gets release to be re-bought, but that's not till the end of the day. So if i was you, id pop down like 20minutes before store closes, ask if any are "reserved" but so far uncollected, if they say yes, (which i expect some will be at every store everywhere) then wait the 20mins and pick it up

Been finding this thread strangely hypnotic and want to join in :)

I was wondering what delivery estimate people have who ordered on Tuesday 15th, and what time you ordered (specifically was it before, or after the site started crashing). Also did you order any accessories too?

I ordered one at 1:24pm with a black bumper, and on processing the payment it crashed. Second time it worked and got an email confirmation later that day:

*We estimate your order to be shipped By June 24th.*
*We estimate your order will be delivered to your shipping
address on or before 25 Jun, 2010 - 28 Jun, 2010.*

And as of writing my order still says Not Yet Shipped. I'm now thinking I didn't get in before the "pre-crash" order period, and this looks like a second batch and I will get on Friday at the earliest. Anyone order /after/ 1:24pm and have an earlier estimate? I hope adding the bumper hasn't caused it to be delayed!

Summary: (maybe use a similar format so people can compare posts quickly)

Store:...........Time:.....Phone:...Accessory?....Ship By:...Delivery:
Apple Online..1:24pm..32(blk)..Bumper(blk)...24 June....25 - 28 June

Hi, Can anyone see a problem with what I am doing:-

  1. I have ordered a iPhone 4 from Apple online store.
  2. When I receive iPhone 4 I will cut my CPW HTC HD2 O2 Simplicity Sim to a Micro Sim using a iPad Micro Sim as a template.

Thanks

I thought I was on to a winner with my local Phones4U as the manager said he would reserve one for me. However I popped in today and they said they weren't getting any 32GB ones. He even showed me the computer screen. The on screen tariffs only showed 16GB versions. Apparently they have a meeting on Wednesday which he believes will discuss the new iPhone.

My local store doesn't know what time to open yet. But as I want a 32GB version, it looks like I will be camping outside Orange instead (which opens at 7AM).

It's very hard to know what to expect really. My receipt shows a £5 payment for an 'APL IP4 32 ORG BLACK' (Orange, 32GB, black) - It was hard for him to find the 32GB option, but apparently you had to do a sale, cancel it, then go back and then it appeared or something weird.

I've no idea whether they'll actually get the stock - maybe not, but having some kind of receipt seems better than nothing so I'll see. Orange, Carphone & Phones4U are all within 100m in my high street - so we'll see. :)

My experience of carphone warehouse is their customer service is not worth the effort of going to their stores. Isn't this why we buy apple products, because one of their major selling points is their customer service is great so why spoil the experience by using a company that has spoiled buying a new phone already. I would rather wait for o2 or apple than dirty myself in that other store.

Agreed. I pre-ordered directly from Apple. I once went into a CPW and was surrounded by 3 'customer service agents' trying to get me to sell me an inferior phone saying the iphone was overpriced and you couldn't text and drive at the same time... I was quickly out the door.

Thanks for the swift reply! Sorry about not putting in paragraphs.. I forget.

When you say o2 will 'attempt' to upgrade.. do you mean they might be really busy therefore not be able to do it? I thought the way they upgrade is cancelling and then signing a new contract? Either way, I don't mind having a new number, I dislike my number as it is.. too many 9's and 6's..and 5's.. anyway!

As someone else said (sorry, I just look at the reply, not the username) I guess it would be a good idea to go and see if she can get an uncollected reservation. I'm not sure how it works though.. this is a completely hypothetical question/situation: Let's say o2 has 800 iPhones in their little shop, 50 people have made 'reservations', 760 people come in during peek time (first 5 hours of shop opening) (who haven't made reservations) and ask for an iPhone.. would all 760 get iPhones? or would just 750? I don't know if they would sell them to any customer?

I mean.. would they save an iPhone for you, until you come in and say 'Hi, I'm Jane Doe, I came in here a few days ago and reserved an iPhone".. would they have definitely saved one for you? Sorry for stupid questions, I'm a bit nervous.

By attempt, I meant that they'll let you pay your way out of the contract and put you into a new contract. Also called upgrading. They won't be too busy. I think you can request a new number. Remember, they don't cancel your old contract, you are simply buying out on their terms.

I would think that 750 get the iPhones, but I'm not 100% sure.

Can't say for sure. It's O2 :/

Sorry for late reply, have a discussio about Doctor Who.

Well again, thanks for the reply. I will probably call up CPW or O2 on Monday afternoon and ask how it works, last time I called O2, I actually got a customer service rep who was enthusiastic :L

Re. Doctor Who, it's still on the Sky+, watching it tomorrow. I'm guessing something really cool or equally something horrible happened?

It has the potential to blow your mind, but don't look at the DW minisite. It reveals stuff, which probably is true, but not true :)

The last O2 rep I talked to over the phone, felt like she's just taken sleeping pills :/

Silence will fall.....

So with O2 apparently having Micro SIMs since Monday, will they have both Pay Monthly and PAYG Sims?

Thanks

Sorry, I just read a previous post saying that to 'upgrade' Apple will let you buy out the remaining months on the existing contract. So with the 2 months I have remaining, I'd have to pay £70 (£35/month) PLUS the price of the handset?!

When I've previously upgraded, i've never had to buy out the remaining months of my contract, the remaining time is just added on to the new contract. Also to note, Orange allow you to upgrade 2-3 months before the end of the contract. Bearing this in mind, does anyone know if I would still have to pay my way out of the remaining 2 months I have left?

For O2, it's 20 x months remaining, so 40 for you, plus handset.

No, there is an early upgrade offer specially for iPhone buyers/owners which is reduced to £20, and depending what type of customer you are, you get early upgrade eligibility (blue, silver, gold, platinum). I'm silver customer I think, so I pay £20 less because thats one month.

@ct2k7: I just watched Dr.Who.. Wow. just, wow.

Ah, I see. Am I right in assuming that this 'early upgrade' offer from O2 is for those who are not yet 'eligible' for upgrade and hence have to buy out the remaining months of their contracts?

I think this is different for Orange as they offer upgrades to all customers a few months before its over and rather than making people buy out the remaining months, they add them on to the new contract. Therefore (fingers crossed), I won't have to pay anymore than I have to! This was the general gist I got when I rang Orange up but I'm not 100% sure

That is correct.

I don't know about Orange, Sorry.

Sorry, I should have clarified earlier that I'm on Orange and that my contract ends in September but I am able to upgrade from June with the remaining months being added onto the next contract

OK look I'm not trying to pick a fight I thought I made myself clear. Obviously I didnt.

So: A micro sim is a micro sim and knows nothing until its programmed.

An iPAD sim (i.e. a data sim you are using in your iPAD with a data contract) will not work in the iphone4.

Is that simple enough?

You have evidently merely ported your phone sim over to a micro sim. Can you see the difference?

That did imply that it was a sim out of your iPAD as opposed to a simple blank micro sim?

And with regards to "iPhone" we are in a forum talking about iPhone4 so perhaps some initial clarity would have helped....

ROFL at all your posts MADMAX, did we not make it clear a million times that an unregisterd ipad microsim can be used for a sim swap from PAYG.

U seem pretty clueless to think for one second it wont work in an iPhone 4, i'll come back on the 24th to laugh at you :D

i ordered just a black iphone 16gb at 3:56pm GMT and it says it will be delivered on 24th, so i think the bumper may have delayed your order,

Aah cheers that does seem to confirm it. Am not bothered about waiting an extra day or two, just wish the potential effect on delivery was stated when ordering (or just that the phone is coming direct from China which may not be where the accessories are).

I would cancel the bumper from the order which I can still do but definitely don't want it to bump me to the back of the queue on the iPhone. Could call Apple CS but not going to risk complication - and I want a bumper anyway.

Hopefully the delay will give T-Mobile time to send a memo to their customer service reps and explain to them what a microSIM actually is.. Looks like I'll be trimming my SIM down next week (got about 3 months flext contract left, then I'm free! just need to decide which network to switch to, maybe I need to go read this whole thread :))

I did order four PAYG SIMs from T-Mobile and got them in the post this morning and noticed exactly the same thing. Managed to cut one to USIM size as practice and it seams to be working. So got three more to practice on. I am using the O2 iPad USIM as template.

What's a USIM? Can you post dimensions pls? Or pics?

USIM as in μSIM (microSIM)

Size is 12mm x 15mm as opposed to regular miniSIM's 15mm x 25mm

Better guide here if trimming one down, not sure about the positioning here though, from other pics I've seen I don't think a long edge is shared like he's done in this guide, only the 'base' shorter side. I'd research it, you want the contacts in the right place or it won't work.

Apple Store Reservation

Was wondering for anyone who's reserved an iPhone 4 at local apple store

1. When I go on the store's website (http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/meadowhall/ for me)
and click view reservations in top right it says you have no reservations, does this mean that my iPhone reservation didn't complete despite having received an e-mail confirmation?

2. Does having a reservation at a store guarantee me a device that day? Although this is my closest store I still live relatively far away and would not be able to make it to queue up early. Am I guaranteed an iPhone if I were to arrive at say 11am?

Thanks guys
