yeah on their official site they say

This Early Upgrade Offer (the "Offer") is available to you if you're an existing consumer Pay Monthly or Business customer (who signed up in an O2 Shop or through o2.co.uk) on O2 who is still within the minimum term of their contract (an "Eligible Customer").

Looks like early upgrade is only available to o2.co.uk customers so looks like i will have to buy a handset off ebay

OMG... the prices on ebay are RIDICULOUS!!! haha... I'm kinda glad that even if I order one now for the 24th that I wouldn't be able to get it till later or I would probably be getting one off ebay too, haha... as it is I know i can't get one till mid-end july when I get back home... so i'm just gonna wait to order one off apple nearer to when I get back, or look round the stores see if any one has restocked when I do get back...

I got my 3G through CPW (had the shortest queue on launch day) and I have always called O2 for tariff changes etc. I spoke to O2 yesterday, as my girlfriend was calling to lower her tariff, and the very helpful guy looked at my account and explained I could get an iPhone, subject to availability, on launch day. However, I am in no rush for the new handset and I am working that day. I might try in my lunch break on Thursday (but probably won't) or on Friday afternoon.

Give O2 a call, give them your account details and ask how you go about getting the iPhone 4 - this should then give you the answer to your question.

i found this from a google:

From there it is possible that it may be shipped directly by courier. You’ll know if this is happening as the shipping method on your order status page will be “Fast Ship (EMEA)” This means that a courier (TNT or UPS in the UK at least) will handle the delivery from factory to your door. Once your item is shipped you’ll receive a dispatch email from Apple which will contain a ten digit delivery reference number beginning with 80.

damn annoying how US customers are prepared for shipment or even shipping already! A lot of us have ordered way way earlier than a lot of their orders. Better be here on 24th or Apple will have a flea in their ear

I was informed by apple that the shipment is coming from holland so I expect it will ship Monday or Tuesday.

I thought that was ship EDC (European distribution centre)
I'm sure you're right. If you try put the order number and post code directly into the order status system (without logging in) and this is what I got (in the attached image)

Seems like they're upgrading or trying to sort out the ordering system somehow before the influx of requests closer to Thursday.

Thank you for the reply.

I was just wondering whether those who've reserved get it reserved till the end of the day right? So I wouldn't get theirs?

Lastly, I believe the store opens at 8AM (going to ring to check) so I'll be there from 7, does that sound enough time? This will be the first time I've been to an iPhone launch! Rather excited, but all the same disappointed I had to work alll day and couldn't reserve.

They will keep reservations till the end of the day, they have promised that. If you don't manage to collect one on launch day then it may be worth hanging on till close of business and asking if there was any not collected and if so will they be selling them off in the morning. I presume they will open normal time next day. Be in and ready because others may have the same idea.

I got my 3GS at launch last year at the Trafford Centre as I have already posted in this thread. The doors nearest the Apple store opened around 7am so people could start to queue outside the Apple store. Two queues, one for pre-ordered and one for turn up and hope. But by all accounts this launch is larger than the last one and there appears to be a great deal of interest.

Yes, the store has been down all morning.

I saw a 16GB one go for just over £733 pounds a few days ago on eBay. I cant understand it. If people are that desperate to get one, then why didn't they sit with their finger poised on the trigger on pre-order/reserve day.

Shipping/Flight Update:

There was supposed to a plane from Hong Kong to Liege at 3AM yesterday, to reach Liege at 4PM yesterday. However, that plane was cancelled and never took place.

Interestingly Enough, there is now the same flight from HK to Liege on Tuesday which leaves at 4AM (Our time) to reach Liege at 4PM (Our time again).

Now, there are various different locations in which Apple distributes it - but we're in the UK so we're looking at a transfer to the Arnhem Hub in Holland.

We're looking at about 6 hours to be transferred from Liege to Holland.

From Holland, We're looking at 18 Hours Maximum to be sent to the Northampton Hub.

Totalling up, we're looking at being in the UK at about 4PM in on the 23rd, which is safe enough to be delivered to our own local Depots and out for delivery on the 24th.

Now I may be completely wrong  but I am pretty sure that we're looking at 24th for Delivery at the Earliest, looking at how the iPad's were delivered - I'm not completely sure that we will all get them on the 24th...

People have been saying that if you have reserved for in-store pick up you can go on the apple website page for that store and check you reservation. I have received the email confirmation for Cribbs Causeway store in Bristol but nothing shows up if I go on the website under my reservations.

Anyone else tried this and found same/different?

USIM as in μSIM (microSIM)

The full size ones can also be referred to as USIM (my old 3G Sony Ericsson referred to the sim as USIM).

According to Wikipedia, USIM actually refers to the application:

"The use of SIM cards is mandatory in GSM devices. The equivalent of a SIM in UMTS is called the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC), which runs a USIM application"

UMTS is the 3G system used in the UK and most of the world.

I was thinking the exact same thing... if I'm entirely honest... there is no way in hell I would pay that much... I know I said that if I was in the country I would... but realistically I wouldn't, haha... and seriously... if for some reason you couldn't sit there waiting... they would save like 234 pounds by just waiting a week (if they had gotten it by the july 2nd shipping date)... it's CRAZY... but if they have the money to do it... then why not, haha

That could be for a number of reasons:

1. It takes less time to get the iPhone here from Shenzhen than it does to US.
2. A slower means of delivery is used to deliver (well, actually, same as 1).
3. UK iphones are already at (or are heading to) the Apple warehouse and will be shipping from within the UK, thus they need not be prepared and shipped until the day before delivery.

People in the US have said the same thing but they can see the reservation in the apple app, which we don't have.

For those of you who joined the madness on 3G launch day (which this will be most comparable to, I imagine!) how early did people get there?

I'm in Manchester, and the store I spoke to said that they were opening at 6am, so I was thinking of getting there around 4am in the hope that I'd be out of there in time to get to work (round the corner) for 9am... does that sound realistic?

Incidentally for people asking about when the Arndale centre opens, I walk through it on the way to work, before the shops open, every day. I imagine that the automatic doors are open from about 7 so at least an hour before the Apple store is due to open.

this will be my first iphone direct from apple on launch day.....so to all the people here who order regularly on launch day......has anything ever gone wrong?? things get delayed etc?? just wondering how reliable they are as a company in regards to shipping dates......have they ever been put back last minute???

I asked this yesterday and no-one replied :(

Do you guys, in all your wisdom, reckon its worth me getting up early on Thursday, travelling all the way to the Trafford Centre, Manchester to visit Apple? I've not pre-ordered, and wondered if anyone had any idea of how much "walk - in" stock they had, or just a general idea.
No one knows much except that there will be 'some'. Also, it follows from logic that the sooner you can get there, the better your chances of getting one are. If you turn up at close of business, I'd probably bet you stand no chance. If you turn up at 5am, you'd stand a good chance.

apple bullring - reserved iphones held till
close of business then added to sale stock

source - genius bar 11am today

Exeter is normally pretty good for being stocked.

Each major release that I have been theirs been no queue. Also exeter is small and people won't come up from further south.

Sometimes its better to aim for quiet o2 stores first thing.

Ill prob panic about going my local 02, even when its rual and Ill be the first their.

I am concerned about the lack of anti glare screen protectors out their at the mo. Debating weither to hold of untill more cases are avaliable etc.

Wow, that's really really good to hear, I was scared there was going to be a huge queue and my mother would either not be able to get one, or miss her conference!

I have told her to try and go to the small high street Carphone Warehouse (not the bigger one in Princesshay) first, and if its busy, then try the other one.

I have all the money sorted out, and I really hope there is stock on Thursday in Exeter, whether it is from O2, CPW or P4U. There will be no hope with the Apple store, plus I need to sort out all this stuff with my contract.

The nearest time I can go to Exeter is on Saturday, which would definitely be more convenient, either that or she can get in her Friday lunch break. Thursday preferably. Oh god. I do go on just a bit too much. :S

simlock comments

Hi all,
Just wanted to add my voice to the questions revolving around the iPhone4 being locked/unlocked. To pass on my findings:
1) Apple store sales staff view: all phones they have are exactly the same in the boxes - ie they are unlocked. He checked with the store manager if buying a contract there and getting it activated would mean the phone then becomes locked to that contract network. There is no official Apple position on this - his gut feeling was that the phone would become locked to the network once the contract/phone was activated.
2) I phone 2302 from my iPhone and spoke to O2 and asked the same question. The woman I spoke to explicitly stated that taking out a contract on an iPhone 4 would NOT lock the phone to o2's network, ie I would be free to swap out the SIM to any network at will
So, I want to believe O2, as this means I can travel with my phone and swap to a local network and avoid roaming charges. I guess however that only time will tell! Just thought I'd pass on my findings.
