It depends how old your sim is? If you've got the new type then it's more rectangular and exactly same contact area as micro sim. If you've got the old one they look more square. Still both can be cut but the latter is harder to achieve

The squarer type have more contacts on the sim. But not all of the contacts are used.

cool (Y) yepp all you need is that email and you should be on your way to getting your micro sim :) anddd nope I would give it a shot :D

I'm about to start work so I'll either ring in lunch break or tomorrow morning! :p I think a few different people would like an answer! Are you going to the Exeter Apple store to get yours? :)

I have a question

I am desperate for iPhone 4 and want to buy out my contract under the £20 a month thingy but as I bought the contract originally at CPW do I count as an o2 customer even though I am billed by direct debit each month by o2 ?

from my understanding i thought that only those that bought their phones directly from o2 are entitled to the £20 offer but at the same time an o2 rep said I should be allowed an upgrade so am confused

I dont want to get to shop at 3am on Thursday only to leave phone less

Also does anyone know if o2 stores will allow new contracts on the day for existing o2 customers ? if I fail with the buyout I just want to take out a 2nd contract

i know most people are on o2 here....but just thought i;d re-state that i am with orange and if u want a microsim (if ur on a pay monthly tariff) then just phone them up and ask......i did on wednesday, got it delivered yesterday......transferred my number to it.....stuck it in the adaptor and it's working fine in my current phone....all ready for thursday when mine gets delivered.....

so yea if ur with orange, just phone them and ask!

My question is: If I buy an iPhone outright from Apple, will I be able to use it on a tariff that isn't an iPhone tariff? Has anyone done this in the past?

@iambasil
Yes, buy unlocked from Apple and use any carrier you wish. For example, unlocked phone plus O2 simplicity = pretty good deal, if you can handle the upfront cost, which I can't, post iPad purchase.

I've got my iPhone reserved and I want to go on contract, would I be able to charge the "initial phone price" to my credit card and then set up the direct debit to my normal debit account?

I had one one on Vodafone, what you need is a tariff with a good data allowance. I have just (on Saturday) changed my tariff to the Vodafone 12 month SIM only tariff for the iPhone. For £20/month I get 1GB of data included which seems hard to beat, looking at the others, although I bet 3 beats it. They are also sending me a Microsim (supposedly) to arrive tomorrow.

Hey, just wondering, did you sign-up online then phone up about the microsim, or did it all instore? I'm planning on going to the same tariff, but need to do it online to go through quidco.

Cheers

lol fair does where d'you work by the way? don't need to answer on here mind, its quite public lol and by the way its sunday mayyyyyn, ahaha I know but I heard the Apple store is giving the best answers, even for the micro sims and they aren't even the network, mad times! lol ahhh nope mate nearest store to me is in Manchester which is 30 miles from where I am (Preston) I pre-ordered mine so should be delivered on the 24th :)

Is fast ship EMEA the direct from China method? I would only stress if you don't get shipping by tomorrow morning although I did think we would have had confirmation by Saturday.

I believe Fast ship EMEA is ship from local hub ( netherlands most likely ), from past orders.

I asked this yesterday and no-one replied :(

Do you guys, in all your wisdom, reckon its worth me getting up early on Thursday, travelling all the way to the Trafford Centre, Manchester to visit Apple? I've not pre-ordered, and wondered if anyone had any idea of how much "walk - in" stock they had, or just a general idea.

I apologize on behalf :) personally I would get to an apple store as early as possible, you never know, if someone who had reserved one doesn't pick it up, you could get it :)

I'm not entirely sure... but I would guess that you could do the upgrade thing cuz CPW is basically an agent for the networks... and for everything after actually paying for the initial cost of a handset you deal with O2 and not CPW (other than maybe insurance)

For the new contract... it's not entirely clear... apparently O2 have said that they will only sell the new iPhone to existing customers for now cuz of a lack of stock, but they speciffically mention upgrades and something to do with internet customers... so even though you are technically an existing customer... they may not let you buy a new contract for the new iPhone...

Nobody knows but I really doubt they will have much stock that has not already been reserved

Thank you for the reply.

I was just wondering whether those who've reserved get it reserved till the end of the day right? So I wouldn't get theirs?

Lastly, I believe the store opens at 8AM (going to ring to check) so I'll be there from 7, does that sound enough time? This will be the first time I've been to an iPhone launch! Rather excited, but all the same disappointed I had to work alll day and couldn't reserve.

No-one can answer this with any certainty, unless they work for Apple and have inside info on how many 'walk-in' units will be available. It is completely up to you if you want to queue up early....if you haven't got anything on that day (work, college, Uni etc) then why not give it a try?

On the 3G launch I pre-ordered with O2 (about 2mins after the site went live), they then emailed me two days later and said I wouldn't get it on launch day! I therefore cancelled my order and took my chances in my local city centre by getting there at 0430 - and I managed to get one.

If you haven't pre-ordered/reserved then it really is down to luck on the day.

Good luck, I hope you get one.

no worries :) sorry I forgot to add if they didn't collect theirs on thursday, you would most likely be able to get that on friday :). That seems enough time but its going to be down to luck, especially with the amount of people wanting this phone. Personally, if it was me, and I had no work or nothing to do on that day, I would go, but if I had work, I would go on Friday early :)

yeah on their official site they say

This Early Upgrade Offer (the "Offer") is available to you if you're an existing consumer Pay Monthly or Business customer (who signed up in an O2 Shop or through o2.co.uk) on O2 who is still within the minimum term of their contract (an "Eligible Customer").

Looks like early upgrade is only available to o2.co.uk customers so looks like i will have to buy a handset off ebay
