Thanks for the replies to my qeries. I have another question. When I have purchased my iphones in the past, I have always purchased with the geeksquad insurance from the carphone warehouse, a desicion which has really saved me - a particularly clumsy person - on a couple of occasions, from having to purchase a brand new hand set. Now that I am a launch day buyer, and O2s frigging "no PAYG on launch day" policy is preventing this, what are my options down this avenue? I know of Apple Care, but It doesn't cover anything like accidental damage ect, as far as I am aware and just stands as an extended warrantee. This is of no use to me. Do Apple offer insurance? If not when can I insure my new iPhone 4?

Thanks

Really worried about the talk of lines at Meadowhall being hours long.

I should be at the store by 4pm - what should I expect? I do have a reservation so they should have held a handset for me but what about the line at that stage in the day?

Thing is all they are predicting this by is the number of reservations presumably!
I myself will be getting to meadowhall by 11 o clock and hopefully there will be no queue and my reservation will still be there

MobileMe is fantastic...the most valuable thing for me is, that everything is synced...If I lose my iPhone, I don't lose my calendars, contacts, iDisk backups, photos etc...Find My iPhone works perfectly - it's saved my bacon before, thank goodness starbucks staff were honest enough to return it to me :)
I stopped subscribing to MobileMe - you can do most of what it offers for free. Google Calendars will do all your calendar syncing, Googlemail will sync contacts (you don't have to use their service for your email) and DropBox will give you 2GB free online storage. Depends whether the couple of things MobileMe will do that aren't free elsewhere are worth that much money each and every year.

Surely that is specific enough?! If you order now, they will ship (prepare it for delivery and give it to courier) it on the 14th July and then it would arrive at your delivery address probably no more than 24hrs later, you would sign for it and have an iPhone 4 in your possession. Once Apple give it to the courier the time it takes to deliver is out of their control, they can only really be expected to be specific about the date they give it to the courier for delivery.

Hope this helps.....

by implies any time up to that date ;)

Thanks to all those that replied. I'll have to try my luck and head down to the store early

ROFL at all your posts MADMAX, did we not make it clear a million times that an unregisterd ipad microsim can be used for a sim swap from PAYG.

U seem pretty clueless to think for one second it wont work in an iPhone 4, i'll come back on the 24th to laugh at you :D

Listen you child, First off I havent read all 350 pages, second of all the poster and myself are both in agreement on the previously stated. That any sim can be programmed to work in anything, but as the quote you used clearly stated. An activated iPAD data sim will not work in an iphone.

Now go away and **** stir with someone else.

k guys with the cancellations happening, and everything thats going on, I'm really nervous about my iPhone not getting there on the 24th :( even though i preordered (the sim free model, 16gb, delivery) mine within 30 mins of the preorder apple iphone 4 site launching directly from apple, I am afraid because I just read some people have gotten shipping confirmations and mine has not even changed to preparing for shipping yet! Has ANY UK customer gotten ANY update to their order status who ordered directly from apple? Not yet shipped is what I have, or is this to be expected to happen?

It only takes 20 hours to ship from China ;)

It doesn't make sense for them to load 3.1.3 does it?

I'm just puzzled how we're still officially on 4GM, I can't begin to imagine the logistics of loading 4 onto devices days/weeks ago, especially as at that thime it was still in Beta modus?

Do they build the thing, then flash it last minute before it goes in the box and out for delivery?

Does anyone know if Carphone Warehouse are taking iPhone pre orders in store?

also im on an iPhone contract with orange will they give me a micro sim to transfer my contract onto if I go in store?

Thanks

Well, from what we know, the next step is STABLE. Current, non-iPhone 4 builds are RELEASE CANDIDATE, (GM Candidate - which Jobs did take the time to stress).

I assume that all of the major bugs are fixed, but just as a precaution, I will be restoring my iPhone 4, to the newest build available, just to eradicate any issues. I will only do this is the build tag differs between iPhone and server.

You'll probably be lucky if they know the iPhone 4 is coming out at all. I went in asking if they had any microsims for the new iPhone and they had no idea that it needed a Microsim. This was over a week after the announcement as well.

Ditto, using exactly the same services as you. I do use Gmail for my email.

I'd really like the find and remote-wipe features of MobileMe but, given that I can already do everything else for free, I can't bring myself to pay the full fee just for these 2 features.

Am currently on o2 30 day simplicity deal, o2 microsim collecting tomorrow. However, I am interested in moving to orange due to coverage being better in my home and work area.

I have looked at the http://shop.orange.co.uk/iphone/choose-sim-only-plan
Orange sim only deal for iPhone, but it appears to be iPhone 3G and prior only. Could not get an answer as to how to get a sim only orange microsim deal from my local store. Anyone know? Failing that is there a number for customer services for non orange customers?

Really don't understand the desperation around microsims. It's trivial to fashion a regular sim to size. I bought my iPad in the states and use an old 3PAYG sim in it which took all of about a minute to trim to size.

If you're on an existing plan, you may find it more cost effective to buy the phone direct from Apple, trim your sim, then tell your service provider nothing.
