Is there any info on business phones/tariffs for the new iPhone in the UK?

At some point, I'd like to get a couple of handsets with shared minutes and texts, but there's not much info around from many of the networks in this area.

But if you're clicking restore aren't you just wiping over your setup with the backup from the old phone?

Nope. Once set up as a new phone, right click your iPhone and select restore from backup. All the previous data except OS, Music and Apps is then placed back onto the phone. As long as you have the same apps selected to sync back to your phone, it pulls the saved game/app data out of the back up

Can anybody help me out here .....
OK, so I ordered my 32GB Black, which is due to be delivered July 5th.
I'm just out of contract with t-Mobile, and am looking for a sim-only deal,
with Vodafone, Orange, or O2.
So my questions are:
1. I live in the Leeds area - anybody have an opinion to which has the best
reception, or are they all pretty much OK here ?
2. Data limit-wise, it now looking like, Vodafone 1 GB, Orange 750mb, O2 500-
750mb, however somebody posted a suggestion about getting a sim-only
contract with O2 (before the 24th) with Unlimited Data limit, with the normal
sim. If I did this would I need to activate it before I swap to a micro-sim, or
can I hold on until my phone arrives.
3. Finally, If I went for the (O2 Unlimited) on a 30 day rolling contract, and then decided to change to a 12 month, would they then impose the 500mb cap ?

So, referring back to my question 3. Does this info below (from O2's site), definitely mean that the data cap doesn't start until Octeober .... I cannot get any sense out of O2 !

'From 24 June, O2 will introduce three inclusive data bundles for new and upgrading smartphone customers. New and upgrading customers will continue to receive unlimited data as a promotion until 1 October. From that date, they will be able to buy additional data Bolt Ons which include 500MB for £5 or 1GB for £10 and O2 will ensure customers have the ability to easily monitor their use by sending them regular text messages'

I know Orange have theirs up, not sure about the others though...

sorry if it's been covered but I been away from the forums most of today.... friend on 3 txt me sayin he's had an official 3 carrier update though an he's got visual voicemail an was saying tethering access the same access point as normal data so they wouldn't know if you were tethering or not

Yes he is, it will delete the new setup in favour of the restore save so i think he may have wrong end of the stick

Who to believe, who to believe...

I've reserved an iPhone to pick up on Thursday, and called the Apple store to confirm. In the email it says that the reservation would be held until the close of business on the 24th, but when i spoke to them they've told me to get there 'the earlier the better' as they cant guarantee they'll have enough phones to fill all reservations.

Is it just me or is this just ridiculous? Surely if I reserve a product the idea is that i dont have to get to the store at the crack of dawn and queue?

Thanks for the replies to my qeries. I have another question. When I have purchased my iphones in the past, I have always purchased with the geeksquad insurance from the carphone warehouse, a desicion which has really saved me - a particularly clumsy person - on a couple of occasions, from having to purchase a brand new hand set. Now that I am a launch day buyer, and O2s frigging "no PAYG on launch day" policy is preventing this, what are my options down this avenue? I know of Apple Care, but It doesn't cover anything like accidental damage ect, as far as I am aware and just stands as an extended warrantee. This is of no use to me. Do Apple offer insurance? If not when can I insure my new iPhone 4?

Thanks

Guess not?

Anyone?

Went to my local Orange shop last Friday (as I am buying my iPhone 4 on PAYG) and they were useless.

Asked if I can pre-order one and they said "No" as the Pre-Orders had been scrapped. They were opening up at 8am, and that I should arrive there around then.

They said they didn't know if they were going to get any PAYG Units in.

I'm guessing there is no difference between the PAYG & Contract Unit, both will be the same. I'm hoping as I'm buying a PAYG unit, they will give me a PAYG Micro Sim (Again they couldnt tell me if I would, they didnt even know the iPhone 4 took MicroSims *facepalm*).

I have an Orange Contract Sim which I am hoping to cut into a MicroSim!

Being in a small town, which is getting stock I am hoping there will be no queues ;)

That's an accurate assessment. The mind boggles at apple sometimes...

Slightly off topic question guys. Hope someone can help..

I backed up my old 3G on an old laptop.

I now have a MBP. If I restore from the old laptop (for my old apps/txts/contacts etc, will I not be able to sync with MBP?

I'm selling the old laptop, so not sure what to do.

Ok, Frenchie... if you click Restore under Check for update, then yes, you erase your data which allows you to set up as a new phone or restore from back up.

Restore from Back Up is DATA only.

I've done this when I went from OS 2 to OS 3, when I had my phone swapped out and again when I went from OS 3 to OS 4.

I'm sure others here would agree with me here. If you haven't done it before, then I suggest you try ;)

Ditto, using exactly the same services as you. I do use Gmail for my email.

I'd really like the find and remote-wipe features of MobileMe but, given that I can already do everything else for free, I can't bring myself to pay the full fee just for these 2 features.

If you jailbreak then you can install an application called cylay. It does remote wipes and a whole lot more. The subscription is $27 a year but I think it's an invaluable tool for such an expensive device.

No problem. If your phone is upto date, plug it into your new Mac, cancel the sync, then right click the phone and select Back Up. It will place a back up on the phone onto your new machine.

To verify, just go to iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices and it should show the back up there.

To do a proper sync, literally move your whole iTunes folder from your PC to your Mac.

Job done

Thanks for that. I'll give it a go on Thursday.

just out of interest whats going on with Vodafone and Micro sims?

Vodafone are no further down the line to getting Micro Sims sent out. They will send out blank iPad sims which can be used apparently (according to the Vodafone eForum). I have spoken to the press office and they say they will make an announcement when available. Even the current iPhone Sim only plans are being sent out with Mini Sims (as opposed to Micro)

As has already been explained reservation is different to a pre-order. Reservation gets you a place in the line basically and a pre-order is a guarantee. I don't agree either but thats how it stands.

Cheers dude. I forgot to mention I have since sold the 3G. Any ideas now!?

Vodafone seem to have their business pricing up too.

The plans up for Vodafone and Orange seem to only be for a single handset. Is that right? On these plans, can you buy two or 3 handsets and share the minutes and texts? Or do you need to wait for dedicated business plans to come out with multiple handset options?

I had a look for iPhone 4 insurance myself a few days ago. The networks offer their own insurance policies but they're extortionate, the cheapest I found in the end, though it currently mentions the 3GS not the iPhone 4, is CUSC. One would assume that their iPhone plan would apply to the 4th gen as well and £65/yr is not bad. If you have home insurance or such like, you might want to check what they can offer you with regards to iPhone insurance as they're sometimes quite good deals.
