As has already been explained reservation is different to a pre-order. Reservation gets you a place in the line basically and a pre-order is a guarantee. I don't agree either but thats how it stands.

I don't think that's ABSOLUTELY correct. A reservation is, all things being equal, a physical iPhone unit. HOWEVER, this comes with the caveat that there may be some unfortunate errors (e.g. faulty units, mistaken sales of reserved units etc) which means that someone with a reserved phone who comes very late in the day may not get one. But this should be fairly limited.

That may have been what you were trying to say, but perhaps needed a little bit more clarification. But yes, a pre-order is definitely a guaranteed unit (although may turn up a little later than the 24th).

UK iphone Shipping Notifications

Could someone who has purchased from Apple Uk Store confirm whether iPhone 4 pre-orderers are likely to receive confirmation of shipping, when indeed we reach that stage?

I've purchased things before, and they send out shipping confirmation.

Right ok... well, I guess you should wait to get your new phone then! Then sell the laptop.

I can't remember where the back up files are saved to exactly

I found something that looks like it in User/Library/Application Support/Mobile Sync/Backup. Ring any bells?

I assume so, that's who I'm going with.

Nice one :)

As someone said before, we need a hash tag for twitter for launch morning. Just for the UK :) #iPhone4LaunchUK ?

Would be good to have everyone posting pictures from different queues around the country and twitter will be much easier on the go than posting in here. Might help to pass the time if I or anyone end up turning up first in the queue and are lonely!

Might have already been mentioned, apologies if it has, but I've just noticed that vodafones tariffs for the 3GS 16/32 have now added unlimited voda to voda calls.

Likely to be added to their iPhone4 tariffs released do you think?

sounds good to me. see you all on twitter!

If we find out before the day that the Apple store isn't doing Vodafone contracts, I'll be queuing outside one of their shops.

Hopefully we'll know before the morning, Apple stores have been vague according to this forum saying things like "at least 2 providers" etc

Awesome. I may see you there.

I will be tweeting on the day, do we have a MacRumors hashtag yet? :p

EDIT - Great minds! "#iPhone4LaunchUK"

o2 early upgrade conditions

Anyone have a close look at the early upgrade offer t & c? Particularly the section in 2 iii, where you are waiving your rights?

This Early Upgrade Offer (the "Offer") is available to you if you're an existing consumer Pay Monthly or Business customer (who signed up in an O2 Shop or through o2.co.uk) on O2 who is still within the minimum term of their contract (an "Eligible Customer").
If you are an Eligible Customer, and you accept all of the terms and conditions of the Offer listed here, we will allow you to end your existing Pay Monthly or Business contract early and upgrade.
Before you can end your existing contract under this Offer you must:
Have paid a one-off, non-refundable, charge of £20 for each complete month remaining of your minimum term (as calculated by O2) (the "Early Upgrade Offer Charge");
Sign up for a new 18 or 24 month minimum term Pay Monthly or 24 month minimum term Business airtime contract with O2 with an iPhone 4 at the normal price for that phone and on our current relevant tariff terms at the time you sign up for the Offer.
Understand that, in respect of our your new Airtime contract, you'll be waiving the "change of mind" period and any Distance Selling Regulation rights granted by law will end as soon as you start to use our service in your new iPhone 4.
The Offer is available between 24 June 2010 and 24 July 2010 in O2 Shops for both Pay Monthly and Business customers and also in Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4U, Best Buy and Apple stores or by invitation for Pay Monthly customers (the "Offer Period").
The Early Upgrade Offer Charge must be paid by credit or debit card for Pay Monthly customers and through your bill for Business customers.
If you are not an Eligible Customer then you will not be able to take the Offer and will need to follow the normal processes if you wish to end your contract during your minimum term.
If you take up the Offer, any unused call/text allowances will be lost. You won't be able to move back to your old tariff after you've upgraded.
The Early Upgrade Offer Charge is inclusive of VAT at 17.5%. If the rate of VAT varies the Early Upgrade Offer Charge will vary in line with that change.
This Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any early upgrade eligibility you may have as part of O2 Priority List.

Yes but what about for PC's :p

Not used one in a long long time and never synced an iPhone to one so no idea where they are

A quick Google search suggests C:\\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup.

Hope this is of help, whoever it was we were helping!

I've reserved an iPhone to pick up on Thursday, and called the Apple store to confirm. In the email it says that the reservation would be held until the close of business on the 24th, but when i spoke to them they've told me to get there 'the earlier the better' as they cant guarantee they'll have enough phones to fill all reservations.

Is it just me or is this just ridiculous? Surely if I reserve a product the idea is that i dont have to get to the store at the crack of dawn and queue?

Well all I can say is I have asked in two Apple stores and both have told me reserved means reserved. Whilst it's asking a bit much to turn up 20mins before close, they knew how much stock they'd be getting and from the looks of it, their reservation system knew as well. Why would reservations be limited if it meant nothing? If it was nothing more than a place in another line, reservations would be unlimited!

Just been thinking over how far I'd be willing to go to get a new iPhone and have hatched up a plan. Basically Im willing to pay 2 contracts to get one, I'm currently paying £15 a month with o2 which I'd be willing to keep (and drop down as low as poss after 6 months) and then take out a new contract at £30 to get my iPhone at £189 (which I sold my old 3G for before lumbering myself with a crap nokia)

Overall I'd be paying £45 pm which I can live with. Question I have is can I transfer the number from one contract to another I want my nokia number for the iPhone. And would I technically be a new o2 customer and not eligible?

Gonna pop in store tomorrow was just wandering if anyone had done anything similar before?

White God Damn It !!!!!!!

so know one knows officially what is happening with the white, what do peo ple think .....

do u think they are just creating a media storm with the white to create a bigger demand and it will be there on the 24th

or

do you think they are short on screens and struggling to produce and just not saying anything to try and make some fast and ship out or do you have other reasons ????

I wonder what Trading Standards take on that is.....?

You can't buy an iPhone 4 on a contract with 02 for now. Why don't you upgrade?

Yep, because you're extending an already existing service, that you are presumed to be happy with by extending it.
