Can I just ask here instead of starting a thread about it, how much do you think we'll be charged for a 32gb PAYG?

Nobody knows lol, Pre-Orders start on the 15th so something must be released before then, probably Monday lol.

I Honestly Think 02 will be first to shout it out, there are now 4 major networks selling iPhone 4, 02 are gona want to get as many customers as they can, currently there tariff's are great, with unlimited texts and internet, if they keep this im sure they'll do well with iPhone 4

PAYG prices for the 3G and 3GS upon their respective PAYG releases were:

3G 8GB: £349.99
3G 16GB: £399.99

3GS 16GB: £440.40
3GS 32GB: £538.30

I hate it say it but I think the iPhone 4 will be £479 for 16GB, maybe even £499 :/
Don't give the networks any ideas! I think it will be £399!! ;)

Well this could work out well if I sell my iPhone 3GS via O2 recycle to pay off the extra cost per month.

Assuming that includes some sort of heavily discounted iPhone 4. If it is £20/month extra for the remainder of the contract (I've got 12 months left) plus say £299 for a new iPhone 4, then I'm out.

If you own a 3GS then surely the most cost effective way for you to get the iPhone 4 would be to simply sell your current phone for around £300 and put that towards the anticipated £440 iPhone 4 PAYG cost.

Then when you do actually have the opportunity to upgrade to the iPhone 4, do so and sell that new, sealed for around £400.

This is all if you are confident on eBay of course, but I think it really does make sense as a pose to buying out your contract AND paying the initial handset price of the iPhone 4 when you take out a contract. The longer you have the 3GS, the more it's price worth will deteriorate obviously, so sell ASAP IMO.

How much was a PAYG 32GB 3GS when it came out?

£550. (Well £540 + £10 topup)

Did the 3GS PAYG get released on launch day or was it sometime after?

Launch day (June 18th 2009).

I bought my PAYG 32GB 3GS from the local O2 store on launch day, as I already had an iPhone 3G contract SIM from my 16GB 3G that I got at launch day.

They made me topup £10 on the PAYG SIM though which was a bit sad :(.

Well if you have to pay for the handset as well as the extra monthly fee I'm out too. Best just to buy payg iPhone and use contract sim in it.

I'd assume the iPhone 4 price would be the same as the initial payment on a new contract. If so, it could be a great deal:

12 months x £20 = £240 to buy out contract
~£150 to buy a iPhone 4 (24months, £40pm)
£280 from O2 Recycle for 32GB 3GS

=New iPhone for £110

i got a 16gb 3g on 18th contract when the 1st jailbrakes came out. Dropped my contact a tier after 9 months (standard o2 clause) then waitied till i could goto an iphone £20 rolling contract

I got £300 for my 3G in cex.co.uk as it was unlocked (just ultrasnow) so only had to add £250 for a PAYG 3GS 32GB

This time around, I ported my number to a new 12month simplicity deal thru topcashback.co.uk (like quidco) and have just got £200 sent to my account.

I had to sign up as a new customer then move my number over internally.

Means i now have a great contract that ends in 12months, £200 in the bank, a pristine unlocked 32GB 3GS which has the old boot rom and is registered to a developer account. Hope to get £350 for it so its iPhone 4 all the way for me. :D

Just wondering how i'll cope without jailbreak till/if it comes along.

How did you get £200? Looks like the most you can get for a sim only contract on topcashback.co.uk is £25, same on Quidco...

Turns out my contract ended last month. I've not called for an upgrade, or to try and get the contract made cheaper, because I forgot the timing. So I guess they just continued the contract without asking me. So... I guess I've just started another 18 months... So, if I have to pay £20 per month I have left, does that mean I have to pay for 18 months!? Surely not since I'm due an upgrade and it was only a month ago.

I always get confused by all thsi contract malarky. Why can't buying a phone be as simply as buying a computer? :p

You're not in another 18 month contract, your on a month by month contract, meaning go in-store tell them you want a new contract and you have a new phone, taa-daa, new iphone and new 18/24 month contract.

It's really not that difficult.

You signed up for an 18 month contract when you bought you iphone
18 months comes and you have completed that contract
O2 continues to roll on your contract on a monthly basis until you cancel or renew which means you are now officially out of contract
When new iphone comes out you simply sign a new contract for however long and pay whatever the cost is for someone new signing up

I still have 18 months to go on my 24 month contract, does anyone know if there is going to be a deal similar to the att one in which you can restart your contract earlier with a iP4 handset for $399? If there is then I will be doing that :D

I'm hoping they'll make it:

3GS 8GB: £399.99

iPhone 4 16GB: £440.40
iPhone 4 32GB: £538.30

Or something along those lines.

Don't forget they now also have competition from the other networks too, which they didn't before.

Its not THAT easy...

My contract expired in March and i have purposely let it run on with the rolling contract as i anticipated the iPhone 4 coming out this summer....

My thoughts were if i enter a new contract then i will need to buy it out to get a new iPhone.. so i let i trun and now its unclear as to where i stand, some say i am considered to still be 'in contract' and others say i may as well be a new customer to them...

Only time will tell what they have to offer me.

They will have to work to keep me on O2 though.... if they screw me over it will be very easy to switch now that other networks offer the iPhone.

What I don't get is... normally, once your contract's up, you get a free upgrade right? And if you want something better than what's on offer, you can just pay a bit more and get a better phone...

Shouldn't those of us who have completed their contracts be eligible for an upgrade to iPhone4 at a heavily discounted price?

None of the other iPhones have been offered at a heavily discounted price. The original you had to pay £279 and wasn't subsidised. The 3G 8GB was £99 and the 3GS was around £150. Why do you think Iphone 4 would be any different?

iPhone bucked the trend with "free upgrades" etc they don't exist with the iPhone because demand and pricing from apple to the networks is so high.
