OH NO!!!!! I was told by the customer service advisor that because i wasn't starting a new insurance order that i would keep paying £6 a month as i was a bit worried i would have to pay £15 a month.

I never claimed and also paid £6 for my iPhone 3g too. Does this then mean when i phone up to tell them i now got my iPhone 4 from Apple and to transfer my insurance over they are now going to tell me the guy made a mistake and it will be £15!?

1 said it would be just a swap over, an other just said it should stay same price and one didnt know. :( Not happy if i have to pay more as £15 is a little steep

They said the old iPhone insurance policy I had (for my 3G) does not cover the 4.

Hi All,

Long time lurker here! FWIW, here's what I have been told today. It may/may not be useful!

Now, I'm cool enough that I don't need to be seen with the iPhone 4 as soon as it's released:p, so I'm willing to wait for a couple of weeks. I went into Vodafone in Cambridge who said that they only have 25 iPhones coming in for launch on Thursday. Apparently ordering will start that day for delivery by post or to a store after all the fuss has died down.

I'm with o2, so I called them to see what they would say as I fancy moving to Vodafone for the 1GB allowance. A lady in retentions told me to hang on until Thursday, whereby there will be other retention deals available for customers wanting to jump ship to Vodafone/Orange/3 etc.

Probably nothing you've not heard before, but just in case.......!!

Just activated my micro sim, took 10 minutes to change over :)

Lucky you! I got faced with:

Sorry, this area of our website isn't available at the moment...

We'll have it up and running as soon as we can.

This might take a while so would be best to try again in an hour or so.

Don't worry, you won't miss out. It's not first come first served. If you have a sim we'll get it swapped for you.

To the guys that have pre-ordered with Phones4u what's the general consensus?

Because I got the 'pre-registration' paper attached with my receipt for the sepoist, and on that it does say 'stock not guaranteed' but after phoning around a few stores they have said that this is for people who simply want to declare interest and not commit to actually getting the phone on the 24th.

I'm still not sure what to do, as I've managed to get a hold of a pre-order from Apple but don't fancy the que.

You reckon that Phones4U will actually be able to guarantee us one? Judging by CPW stock it seems so tight, my Phones4U have taken around 50 deposits and thats a tiny store!!

Personally, I think it's wishful thinking on their part because if they get the stock then we are obviously going to go there and they get massive commission per contract. The store that I went to today had about 40 pre ordered and the majority of them were white (he showed me the list) so if you have gone for a black one then I guess we will be sweet

They said the old iPhone insurance policy I had (for my 3G) does not cover the 4.

Well am peeved off if i've been missinformed. £599 it cost me for the phone yeah, but £15 a month is a little harsh. Would just be my look i would loose it though or drop it. 1 year £180 is taking piss a bit especially when they can be tracked and remote wiped!!

What's other options? Is there any reputable insurers out there that are cheaper. Don't think my bank Santander does it like Natwest....hmmmmmm really put a spolier to me looking forward to getting it now. Though i never broke/lost one upto now (well apart from one in a toilet 10 years ago) the peace of mind is always nice to have.

just for info, some orange shops wont stock any iphone4 on thursday. And most O2 will have 20-25. Been told in stores. CPW is even worse on stock. THough the record names and numbers of people interested and will call back when any available, which is... ehh better than nothing. the only guaranteed way to get one was to pre-order at the apple store

How do you know about Orange stock issues?

Cleaning old iPhone

First up, make sure you do a full backup from your 3G. This means setting up your new iPhone is a simple as restoring from this backup. Don't worry, it won't "downgrade" the iOS. You can then return your 3G to factory settings ready for your Dad.

Sim Swap

Exactly as simple as you outlined. Some of the hardy folks in this thread had their micro-sims working very swiftly after using the O2 online SIM migrator. If you want things to run even smoother on the day, pick up a micro sim in advance. You can always use the sim adapter to use in your 3G until Thursday.

iTunes Sync & Transfer of Data

As mentioned before you can simply choose to restore from your 3G backup, or start fresh and re-pick your music/pictures/videos/apps. Contacts etc will sync once the correct boxes have been ticked. iTunes makes the whole process of upgrading (and restoring if needed) so easy.

Thanks :D

now he has a screen protector you're right :p

The 3G S was easily scratchable and older iterations much worse for me so for highest resale value I'll be using a front and rear protector!

I must be more careful than the average user then, i’ve had every model of iPhone from day one, all have been sold on in ‘as new’ condition.
I don’t use any cases, occasionally use an iPod sock but the worst thats happened is on my old 3G, the back had some very very light swirls that you could see in certain lights

Got my zagg invisible shield for iPhone 4 today!

It appears they now have a European office so it only took 3 days for me to get it and now I'm all set to keep my new iPhone scratch proof!

You may be interested to know that the front area of iPhone 4 is the same as on the original iPhone! Same width across the screen. In fact I'm sure original iPhone screen protectors will fit the new iPhone 4 front screen, I still have a crystal power support protector on my iPhone original version (which I have kept for classic gadgetness) and may even put that on iPhone 4.

I made the mistake of buying a zagg invisible shield to cover my 3G S but it was horrible - complete waste of money if you want to keep your phone in your pocket because it starts peeling off and getting grit under it. I ended up chucking it in the bin and bought a hardback case for my 3G S and removed the screen protector. The glass is incredibly scratch resistant and really doesn't need an 'invisible shield'. I'll probably get an Apple bumper protector thingy because the aluminium sides are the only parts that I'd potentially worry about.

I realize this is the UK thread but I could use some help from my fellow countrymen. I currently live in france and have bought my iPhone 4 through apple. Problem is Orange France can't seem to get their fingers out of the arse and sort me out a micro sim.
My question is can someone point me in the right direction on how to cut down my normal sim? I have a iPad micro sim but not the template and all the tutorials I can find require this. Also te contacts are different sizes with the iPad sim a lot thinner. I Really don't want to spend all Thursday staring at my new iPhone and not being able to activate it! I have searched for a few hours before requesting here.

Thanks in advance

I am a Titanium customer on O2, so I already have my Iphone 4, in fact I got it before Steve Jobs, I can't wait for Thursday as I have pre ordered the Iphone 4GXL with go faster stripes.:)

I just had to respond even this board is far too long already

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used a screen protector on my iphone 3g when I first got it for nearly a year. After that I decided to remove it. for the last year or so, my iphone has been in my pockets, sometimes even with coins. I've accidently dropped my phone a few times on concrete or on the floor. Despite all this there is not one scratch on the screen. I think screen protectors are redundant for the iphone. Also not keen on the feel you get from them when using phone. Each to their own though :)

I've never dropped mine but it has a few scratches on the screen and the metal bezel is nicked and scored!

I can never get the screen protectors on properly anyway so it'll probably get binned - too impatient!!

About insurance

I'm reading of people paying £15 a month??!!

We have our iPhones insured on our household insurance under a 'things we take out of the home' category along with laptops, iPads, cameras etc. As we have kids we also have accidental damage cover. In total, for up to £10, 000 coverage we pay about £40 extra per year on our policy! We have an excess of £150

Hope this helps someone as the insurance figures I'm seeing around the forums seem just horrible!!

3 or o2?????

I have been with o2 for years (in fact since it was BT Genie), had one year with the money grabbing @£@£ at Vodafone and never again.

BUT, if 3 come up with a good deal, what everyones thoughts on there network?

I hear that they used to be awful, but they have been improving their network.

i reckon o2 will be prepared for iphone simplicity customers jumping ship, so might have a deal up their sleeves.

They said the old iPhone insurance policy I had (for my 3G) does not cover the 4.

Got this from a website
"Does Option 2 have a sting in the tail? To buy a new shiny iPhone 3G S, and use your iPhone 3G SIM in it. But you want to make sure your shiny new device is insured. You’ve already got insurance from O2 for your iPhone 3G on Pay Monthly.

There have been reports on O2’s Forums that Customer Services have been telling people that they cannot transfer their existing O2 iPhone insurance, from a contract iPhone 3G to PAYG iPhone 3G S. This seems to be backed up by the Terms and Conditions of the insurance – you can take the insurance out for either Pay Monthly or PAYG iPhones, and if you stick a SIM from one in the other, then the insurance is void.

I spoke to O2’s Press Office about this earlier today, and they said that the Ts & Cs had been “misinterpreted”. They have confirmed that, whether you take Option 1, 2 or 3 as outlined above – your insurance will still be valid. A call to Customer Services will be required to inform O2 of the new device’s IMEI, and then the cover will be switched. O2 said that the insurance is “iPhone insurance”, regardless of which iPhone is being covered."

Maybe this is an old post....does seem right though that they will prob try charge more. Thought sticking to £6 a month sounded too good to be true. Bet they tell me as ive changed from contract to simplicity then mine goes up to £15 :(

My brother is with 3 and he has had no issues at all. I also look at the fact that they are trying to improve their networks in a big way where as the other networks limit our data to improve the networks.

If 3 come out with a good deal then I will be going with them unless their release date is a month or 2 after everyone else. I just can't wait longer lol

Adam I got that first try, so tried again straight away with no problems!
Give it another go :)

I will try again soon. Been sitting here for about an hour waiting for the phone to update to iOS4 - been backing up now for ages and still only 5% done :(
