Well, I have exhausted all my options. I am unable to get Thursday off work, I've tried shift swaps, late notice annual leave and almost begging.

It looks like I am not going to get an iPhone on launch day. There is no further option to get me a phone. I can't pre-order with any of the networks (as no-one is doing them). I can't afford and don't have a pre-order with Apple at full price, so it looks like i'm doomed to trying to get one at some point whenever they come back into stock with a carrier.

I will just have to sit and watch from the sidelines via this site.

The send the txt to the phone number you enter, rather to the sim

So could I use my wife's number, even though it is nothing to do with either of my SIM cards ?

I just assumed that the confirmation txt had to be to the sim card I was transferring from.

There was on launch day. I think the link might have been taken down now but, even if it still exists and someone re-posts it then you have absolutely no chance at all of getting a reservation now to collect on Thursday. You're only chance is to queue on the day or even try to get there early on the Friday when they will be offloading any units that people reserved but didn't puck up on 24th.

I realise that you didn't necessarily say you wanted to collect on 24th so if you are happy to wait and just don't like waiting in for couriers (I don't) then I'd suggest that you let the 24th madness die down and then call a few days later and ask them if it's possible. You're looking at July delivery now though if you go direct to Apple. Your other option is to try the various networks, CPW, Phones 4 U etc to see how their stock is looking.

Cool, thanks for the info. I guess I'll just wait for the furore to die down. I need to buy from Apple as I want a SIM-free phone.

As well as being sick and tired of being tied to one povider every time a phone is released, I'm particularly sick and tired of O2's awful coverage where I live, commute and work, but not so sick and tired that I'm prepared to cancel my contract a year early! Hopefully the new antenna design will help with the coverage issues. My iPad has execellent coverage on Vodafone, so I'll move (back) to them unless the new design solves the O2 coverage problem.

They do, but that number is also the one you want to transfer, so putting in someone elses number would result in their number being ported over to the micro sim :p

Unless you can ask to borrow someones phone just for a bit to receive the code you may just have to call 202 and get them to do it.

EDIT: Looks like your only option is to borrow someones phone and put your old sim in there just for a bit, or wait till thursday…

Should've pulled a sickie or claimed a loved-one was ill.

Spoke to O2 CS, and told them that I had no access to a mobile, and they said that there is no other way to transfer my contract over, other than follow the instructions on the simswap site.

I asked them what could I do, and they just said I would have to borrow a phone from someone to get the txt.

Very helpful...Not !

What a load of BS. They can do it there, they've done it for me in the past, they've probably been advised to direct people to the site so their time is freed up for sales etc. I'd try again and see if a more helpful staff member will help you out or failing that try your local o2 store, if they can't do it they might at least have a loan handset you can borrow for a few minutes.

Haha, sorry guys I didn't finish writing my post!

I was going to say they only send the code to the number you enter, but you don't have a friend/neighbour you can talk to to borrow a phone?

I just did mine now, took about 4 mins altogether

Hi, I've got a few questions if someone could help me. I'm aware some of them may have already been answered but this thread is 400 pages long and I have to be quick at work!

I reserved a 32GB iphone for collection on Thursday and chose the option of a pay monthly, but I'm not an O2 customer yet. I saw that O2 are only currently offering iphones for their existing customers, but is that only in their own stores? Will I be able to sort out a new O2 contract at the apple store, or will I have to just cancel my reservation and wait for O2 to offer the phone to new customers.

Yes, you can.

I called to confirm this yesterday. I'm doing this for my girlfriend who is not currently with o2.

Contract upgrades & new contracts were handled by a different team, I literally just need to get straight to a checkout. You don't actually think the people on the checkout are going to be doing the contracts do you? What about people who are in the store just to buy non-iPhone products... you honestly think they'll happily wait for contacts to be sorted?

Nope. Sim-free for me, collect, pay, out.

OK, that sounds like great news but they've not sold SIM-free before have they so I assume this is just a best-guess at the process? It will mean they are literally going to have to go down the queue pulling people out of the line to skip to the front if they want SIM-free which might cause a bit of aggro? If it is the case it's another factor that's pushing me towards SIM-free though :)

When I saw that guy from Edinburgh above offering a reservation, I immediately thought of you and tried to find you on here, but thankfully you found his post instead! :)

Thanks hippyharry, as i only registered today im unable to PM rumorswtcf, hopefully he finds my post (fingers crossed). Hopefully im there early enough to get one. I dont want to hang around for two long as parking is not great in the middle of glasgow and im travelling from Fife! im sure apple will have it reasonably organised. I bought from o2 at 3Gs launch and it took the woman an hour and i was first in the Q, i waitied for 2 hours before the shop opened

You are best to go to o2 store to get your microsim. The one I ordered online never arrive. Phoned and spoke to customer services to request one and that one never arrived either although promised. Walked into o2 on Monday lunchtime and they had loads of them. Took about 15 mins for the transfer to complete to the new sim and now using it in the current iPhone.

You haven't realised that people who go to Oxford are usually very pretentious?

I only wanted to know, its the model I originally wanted until the delay, just wanted to see if it was actually true, my 3GS is a White model and it doesn't get dirty.
I sure have realised that people who go to Oxford are very pretentious.

I should also say that this really isn't very fair. Just because ct2k7 is making up that he goes there and thus wants to show off about his fake life as much as possible, doesn't mean everyone who goes there is as bad.

By the way, he could prove he goes to Oxford by print screening his result from this website: http://whatismyipaddress.com/. It identifies what ISP you're on, and your location, which would prove us wrong. I'm not expecting him to post though.

cant you just come in an hour late? most shops opening at 8am, so if you queued early enough you should be done by 9, 10 at latest?!

Pre-order delivery to your address

Haven't read all the posts but have a customer relations contact at in Apple's directors office who knows his stuff. The iPhone's for the UK are already here as has been mentioned by cpw staff confirming that on their system (PIE) if memory serves me right. If you pre-ordered for delivery to your address the reason why it hasn't shipped or started to prepare for shipment is that they are already in Hinckley and will start preparing/shipping today tomorrow latest for delivery on Thursday assuming you got your confirmation of the sim free model which states delivers June 24th. Might not have the queues but could be a long day waiting for either tnt or Ups to knock at our door. Hope that provides some reassurance.

Rob

Very frustrating that there is no Apple store in Edinburgh, seems to be one in every other major UK city. :(

Do you think Apple Glasgow will be busy at Launch? Could anybody post rough numbers of people waiting last year at Glasgow for the 3Gs??

An apple store in Edinburgh would be great!

I've just tried that site. It puts my location as a town 10 miles from here. Hmmm, something wrong me thinks.

Well I can say for sure that if he's at Oxford Uni, it will give accurate results. It does for me and a few people at different colleges who have tried it. So it will work if he's at Oxford.

If one may interrupt, I am not defending anyone but why should he go to such lengths to prove anything to anyone, especially. As mentioned before he goes to Oxford Uni, it might not be the "infamous" one, but one of their many colleges/schools.
