Are the screens repairable?

I really want a 1st Gen iPhone..a lot of the ones for sale are damaged though.

I think they are repairable, but it can be fiddly. I was going to, but I wasn’t sure if I could do it. You can parts on eBay for around £15-£30 I think.

i think everyone will have to be VERY careful with their devices untill the accessorie firms catch up and get shipping. Griffin and Powersupoort are saying late july

I bought a cheap silicon case from Amazon, arrived this morning. Cost me £3 and it will do the job till I get the case that I want. Also have screen protectors on the way.

So what time are you guys from Cardiff going to be queuing up then? I'm going to need to be right at the front to have any chance of getting one.

If I order one off the Apple website now for the 14th July, but I manage to get one in store on Thursday, will I be able to cancel my order? When do they take the money, instantly or when its shipped?

Also any word on Tesco's prices they seem to be leaving it a bit late.

Spoke to apple lakeside today ,i have a 32gb reserved and asked if i wouid also be able to take out a new contract as well as do the o2 early upgrade option (£20 a month for the remainder of the contract) and was told that they are not doing new contracts just upgrades till the end of july? .I know o2 were only doing existing customers with their stock but thought where apple wouid have more stock they wouid be doing new contacts? is this for all networks?

Argh. Someone else said earlier they had called their local Apple store about getting a new O2 contract with a reserved phone, and they said it would be fine. I need a new contract because I'm with Three at the moment and I can't afford a PAYG handset.

Aye, I second. I can totally understand people being excited, but declaring your phone 'prepared for shipment', sheesh... Will we have 5+ pages later on when peoples orders actually get shipped? Unnecessary.
You're in the wrong thread, mate. I suggest you get out now while you still can, coz this place is gonna overrun with genuine honest excitement over the next couple of days and negative nancys like you might find it a little too much to handle!

;)

Can someone please start a "mines been despatched" thread and a "how do I get a microsim?" thread please? Important posts are being lost in the very similar multiple posts :-(

But, anyway, Do we know if we can do Vodafone contracts in the Apple store on Thursday yet? Apple stores said yes, Vodafone say no. That was yesterday, not had chance to call them both today yet.

I suggest you start a "Yet more repetitive questions about Vodafone, Orange and O2 that nobody knows the answer to" thread and live in there for the next couple of days :)

I wasn't able to pre-order for the 24th from Apple due to travelling. I now see that they are showing a ship date of July 14th. Does anyone know if you place the order today does your card get charged straight away or only after the order is "Prepared for Shipment" Don't want to have £500 come out of June's wage when I could wait until July.

Btw guys,

for those of you who still have "Not Yet Shipped" should notice the option to cancel the order is now greyed out...so that should be some indication that your order will be fine!

My 32GB is now 'Prepared for Shipment' on the US site (Not yet shipped on the UK site) I always use the US site - it's a lot more acurate for some reason.

Ordered 11.50am,

It's started!!!

It does a hold on funds. So in effect it will check to see if the money is there. No money is taken though until the item is despatched (or at least until you can no longer cancel).

Just spoke to o2. I'm on 30d simplicity (which is NOT PAYG, it's a contract)

Unless you upgrade to an 18 or 24 month contract, you won't be able to get an iPhone in store on thursday. not sure if that was clear to everyone else but it wasn't to me.

I was also told that you have to have an 'iphone simplicity' tariff for it to work in the new iphone. a bog standard simplicity tariff won't work. I'm taking that with a pinch of salt.

I believe that you do not get charged until it is shipped.

Hi, my name is Annie. Welcome to Apple!
Well I decided to have a chat with Apple to see what the crack was with new Vodafone contracts in store....

Hi Annie
Just a quick iPhone 4 question (bet you're sick of them lol)

How may I assist you today?
Welcome to chat! I am happy to help!

if I manage to get an iPhone 4 from a store in the UK on thursday... is it possible to get one on a new vodafone contract or are they sim free only?

I am really sorry for keeping you waiting, I'll be just another moment.

yeah no problem Annie

Thanks for waiting. I'll be right with you. <insert another 15 min wait>
Thank you.
The iPhone is sold SIM-Free. You would need to contact Vodafone for activation and plan. I believe they will help you do this in the store but you would have to contact the Apple Retail Store for additional information. You can easily do it from home with iTunes.

Ok Annie,
Thanks for that

So is that a case of she doesnt know what shes on about or are apple only selling sim free?
