If you upgrade and sign for another 18months/2years, you are going to be in exactly the same position next June for the iPhone 5. If you have the money buy sim free and don't lock yourself into a contract. There are so many networks offering the iPhone now you would be stupid to stay loyal to any carrier for longer than 12 months.

Depends what other things you get from your network, I get 50% off my tariff from T-Mobile..... but I'm "Tied in" for 18 months, does that make me stupid?

Have you left Oxford University ct2k7?

Why would you say that? Just becuase I've removed the "University" text from the location, does not indicate my position, or stance with regards to my education at the establishment. The location simply implies that - I am currently in Oxford.

If you wanted to know why I removed it, it was due to the fact that the very people, like yourself, who incessently request the continuation of a foreclosed discussion, and question my education, position and statement, without regards to any effects as the outcome of the matter. Whether you are trying to engage my attention in such manner that is, quite frankly, annoying, you don't appear to understand that I have worked myself extremely hard to gain the seat, resisting any temptation of the perks of having a social life I had.

I do not need you, or anyone else to tell me what I am, who I am, where I am at, or what I will be. I am not an incredibly bright person, but I have a passion for detail, and a passion for mathematics. If something that I have done is not up to my own personal standard, I have the freedom to attempt the change it. In this case, I don't feel that the scores attained in the initial assessment was a fair reflection of my ability in the area. Obviously, we all have weaknesses, but I firmly believe that this was distorted, and inconsistent with my previous track record in the subject area(s).

For the record, no, I am not studying at Oxford Brookes.

With a reprise to a former question, thank you to everyone to answered pertaining to chances of the iPhone shipping before the end of this month.

im not going to cancel it, it will come when it comes, but unfortunately i'm too impatient to wait for apple and UPS to the pull there finger out and do something so i'm going to the o2 shop on thursday bright and early and just gonna walk in and buy one, and then sell the other one when it arrives (if it ever does). should look on ebay at the prices there going for it mad, so who knows might get my money back with a little extra to cover the cost of the one i brought in the o2 shop.

I would laugh if you went to o2, the last one sold out in town just as you get there. 1hr later you return home to find UPS left an undelivered note stating you can't get it until Mon

Im not leaving the house on thurs until it comes. Beers and Footy is fine with me. Also when you get our shipped status would apple enable us to track it down with what Company? Please dont say RM

Sorry I should have explained properly..
You are stupid if you plan to get the iPhone 5 in a years time, but sign a 18month to 2 year contract.

Ive come to realise that I cant NOT buy the next iPhones, they are just so shiny :D

I know.... Damn you Steve Jobs and your shiny new iPhones. Part of the reason I don't want to be in this situation next year. :)

Dont worry about it, the only difference between the sims is the amount of plastic! Watch this video to see how easy it is. I cut my tmobile & giffgaff sim down tonite and they work fine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2Pkm2PUG-c

Thanks to simon69c for recommending giffgaff to me. I received my sim within a couple of days and have now activated it. (& thanked simon69c as the referer). I have also cut the sim down by using the O2 microsim card as a template as seen in the video above.

For anybody buying a simfree iPhone I really recommend you consider giffgaff. They are now the only network offering unlimited data, from £10 a month.

The PAYG rates are brilliant too compared to the other networks

giffgaff runs on the O2 network, so if O2 coverage is good for you give them a try (and stick it to O2, who I am myself leaving in disgust)

If you do get a giffgaff sim, please use ayzee as your referral code, thanks :)

i am so switching to giffgaff, shame about the free internet ending, but if you top up £10 you will still get it anyway & unlimited texts & 100mins for only £10 its sweet

i was watching the iPhone 4 video again and its made me all excited for thurday!!!

But i love how they're making a big deal about FaceTime like it has never been done...but in fact 3 did it before with the NEC phones and it wasnt through wifi

Yeh after selling my 3GS to get the iPhone 4 I have been using a Sony Ericsson W880 for a few weeks. My friend knowing I was getting it phoned me for a video call on it and said look it's Facetime it's so revolutionary.... mehhh Still looking fw to it though lol

But now it has a chance of being popular! :D

next year all iphones will have facetime...

and that could be 25% of the smartphone market.

I'm in the same position, deciding whether to go for a 24 month contract, sell the phone come June and then whack in the sim.

Not sure I want to shell out a grand for some phones!! Would it even be a lot cheaper though?!

Next year will give is the 4Gs - don't expect iphone 5 this side of the london olympics!

Couldn't agree more, this is a radical overhaul of the current iPhone so it will last a while!

Next year I reckon as mentioned, a 4S, with a 64GB and minor processor bumps. No where near the change seen from 3GS to 4.

Again merely my thoughts.

Myself and my girlfriend at the time had the NEC phones on 3 when they first came out, and you were lucky if you could make a regular phone call let alone a video call!

And considering people complain about Apple being restrictive about what you can download to an iPhone, 3 were even worse when they launched with a completely fenced in download experience

I'm currently in Dunstable and everyone here is poor so doubt they will be able to afford an iPhone just be there for half 6-7ish hour before it opens, as for the one being dropped off at my house well the cleaner will be at the house all day she will sign for it

Anyone who wants to whip themselves into an even bigger frenzy of anticipation, Engadget have a review up and it's spectacular.

Battery life is a big concern for me so I was excited to read that it looks as if Apple have nailed that with the iPhone 4.

Enjoy.

I just read that review... really really good. I can't wait till I get my phone

Thank you for posting, Julian!

I'm really enjoying your posts :)

I seem to be the only one to have an issue with the microsim swap over. Got my microsim today from o2 shop in Bangor, went online to the site and followed the steps...

20 mins later my SIM went inactive, popped in the new one, and its inactive as well.

Now both my sims are inactive... been about 90mins since the swap over

Anyone else experiance anything like this?

Both sims still inactive...

could i have typed the numbers wrong?

I got my Microsim from presumably the same shop as you (Main Street, not Bloomfields).. anyway, mine switched over instantly, but one of my friends had to leave his overnight. I reckon you should leave it for now and if it's not sorted in the morning, give them a call. :)

I just know that tomorrow is going to be a drag at work. Luckily a lot of people will be leaving early because of the football and I'll probably call it a day around the same time. Bring on the 24th. :D
