The U.K. iPhone 4 Thread

So the day is all but upon us.

here's wishing everybody, whether queueing or waiting for a delivery a fantastic day with there long awaited shiny new apple!

and those who don't manage to get one, your day will come!

Enjoy......

Aside from my persistent moaning on the shipping progress of my phone. You have to have respect for the men and women who drive through the night to give us our phones :) Check out what time my iPhone left this evening for Scotland. it's due for delivery on 24th - that's a blo*dy long drive!

We salute you UPS drivers!

I doubt they'll drive it! Most likely fly it.

Either way hope you get it nice and early :)

Yours left Tamworth at 10.12 - Mine's left 10.51 - also enroute to Bonnie Scotland. Must be a few trucks heading North full of iPhones!

That's the departure scan, so it's the time that they scan the box and put it in the truck. So, either lots of trucks, or one very big truck that taken a while to load.

Wow... imagine if that truck got hijacked.

anyone know what the cooling off period is for a new o2 contract? Two days ago i switched my simplicity 1 month contract to a 12 month one (so i could save £5 per month). I now see that TESCO have announced their prices and im going to try to get one of those tomorrow.

Can I cancel the o2 contract without penalty? I thought that I had 7 days to cancel the contract without incurring a penalty, can anyone confirm?

I'm not clear on why people are saying O2 don't have PAYG iPhone microSIMs. Just yesterday I walked into an O2 store in Sheffield and picked up 2 microSIMs - one for my contract and one PAYG for my son. The PAYG SIM clearly states it is a Pay & Go Text & Web microSIM for iPhone on the packaging, and contains a microSIM (same style as my ontract one - ie a fullsize SIM with a small inner microSIM to break out when needed. I take this as clear proof that O2 DO have PAYG microSIM cards available for the iPhone 4.

I see. Weird because all the store i went to said they only had Pay Monthly/iPad ones. Now i'm even more pissed off...what a bloody mess!

*shrug* i stand corrected

Mine is still in Tamworth,

TAMWORTH, GB 23/06/2010 17:08 ORIGIN SCAN

hopefully a 2 hour drive to Deeside depot in the small hours and on to a van about 6 for delivery.

is anyone else from the wirral on the board waiting? spoke to local o2 store on wednesday said they had only had 1 other enquiry about micro sims.

Should be sweet but instead of writing down your Acc Number, why not just bring one of your o2 bills?;)

My O2 bills are sent to my email I think :S

In a spot of bother here as I've just moved house and can't find anything with my new address on!

That's what I'm thinking, mine was in Chatham, Kent; CPW have announced they've sent stock there, but the contracts with O2, Orange & Vodafone, bar the Simplicity deal with O2, are awful.

I will give the store a call in the morning and check the Orange website. If that fails ill just wait 2 weeks or so until the Apple store has them again.

I am sure i can wait that long.

This is a question where it would probably be easier and more definitive to just call o2 and find out for yourself. Dial 202.

Would a passport, photo driving license + counterpart and a debit card be sufficient enough to open a phone contract with Orange or O2?

You need 2 proofs of address, so 2 bills basically (not mobile bills though) - have to be gas / bank / etc. AFAIK you dont need photographic ID.

Look:

How do I get one?

With O2, you need to be over 18 to get an iPhone on Pay Monthly, pass a credit check and have a bank account for the monthly Direct Debit. You'll also need an email address because we'll email you your bills.

If you're going to an O2 shop, Carphone Warehouse, Apple Store or Phones4U, you'll need to take two forms of ID that show your address.

Apple Store UK lets you take out new contracts with O2.

I want to buy new phone.

Reading about issues with reception etc.

I know you can cancel an O2 contract within 14 days of taking it out and also return an iphone within 14 days of purchasing but I'm wondering how that would logistically work? Could I take the phone back to the Apple store (UK), say I don't like it, within the 14 days, then get them to cancel my contract for me, or would I cancel through O2 on the phone (but then what would happen to my phone? would they ask me to bring it back to apple store?) I am confused. Has anybody ever cancelled an O2/vodafone contract they took out at the apple store?

You'll need proof of identity (ie photo driving license/passport), and proof of address (ie something official with your address on it, like a utility bill/bank statement/TV license

the link for the iPhone 4 User Guide is not working!! anyone else kno where i can see it?

hand that problem under google chrome. Opened it under safari and it opened. Someone mentioned "save as" under chrome should do the trick too. Big document!

GUYS im not on O2 at the moment, but i've preordered my iphone from apple sim-free.
If i go O2 tomorrow, will they give me a PAYASYOUGO micro-sim?
I dont understand, some posts say they will, others say they won't.

More importantly, will any network give me (a new customer) a pay as you go sim so i can activate and use my phone tomorrow.

You should be fine to get one from o2, make sure they give you the PAYG micro sim not the Monthly one and yes there is a PAYG version.
