Right had a bit of a mere this morning, finsihed work and went over to Fenchurch Street Vodafone store and laughed at the 200+ queue at the 02 store. Queued for over an hour (processing these contracts seem to take some people an age) only to be told there were 3 16GB phones left. So I asked how many 32GB and they said that they did not get any, half the queue just left at that point after I had a bit of a strop and said at least put a sign in the window.

Then went to the Vodafone store in Liverpool St only to be told that if I hadn't preordered they had no walk in stock. That was news to me Vodafone hadn't announced any preordering scheme. So jumped on train back to Ealing, CPW had stock but out of 32GB on Vodafone.

Phones 4U told me to go to the Vodafone shop as they had loads, and now here I sit with my new toy. Although apparently it takes two days to port a number and on Vodafone you can't use the temp number you get with the SIM.

Every o2 store though had a queue, they should have offered out of contract customers first upgrades for two weeks and then let people in contract upgrade. Who wants to queue all day in this heat?

So they should have made loyal customers already with them and paying them every month wait two weeks, while new customers get first dibs? I mean whit?

Thank god you don't run the stores then or I'd have been waiting two weeks longer than I should have.

Was stood in line earlier outside the local Vodafone store. Chatting to the guy next to me and thought we would compare download speeds. Him on Vodafone, me on O2. Both full 3G signals. Using the speedtest app we performed a check. He got 1.2mbps I got 620kbps.

Looks like Vodafone is double the speed (ish).

Where about do you live??

Just passed by every O2 store and all of them have queues. Ended up in Vodafone where I actually have a sim only plan. They told me they only have 2 or 3 left.

Did the "hold on to the side with your hand and reception drops" with the demo unit and sure enough the signal dropped down to 1 bar.

To be honest though I was mostly put off by the 18 month contract.

oh my god this phone is amazing.....screen is AWESOME!!! cant explain how good it is......at first glance cant see any yellow spots.....but who knows in the future i may do.....but my god....i love this phone just for the screen alone!

I just walked into my local city centre, Portsmouth, on my lunch break to see if there were queues outside O2 stores - there were failry large queues at both!

I decided not to pre-order or take day off to queue, which I had slight regrets about last night. However, after reading about the yellow screen issue and the reception issues, I'm half glad I held off. I'll wait a month or so now as I don't want to go through the back-and-forthing to the Apple store to exchange a faulty unit (had to do that 4 times with the 3G due to the infamous case cracks!).

I'm still getting the engaged tone from Tesco.

Can anyone confirm the earlier post that they are not selling them over the phone until tomorrow now?

That is indeed correct! I decided not to bother going to the store as it would be easier to order it on the phone and have it delivered tomorrow, evidently Tesco Mobile had other ideas and I now have to wait yet another day :(

Btw, if you have trouble getting through to them tomorrow try the brunt force method, if you keep redialing you will get through eventually, took me about 5-10 minutes

Mine is now activated. No yellow spots as yet.

If i cover the complete bottom of the phone with my hand in a cupping action, i go from 5 bars of O2 signal to 0 bars of signal, doesnt drop out completely, but not good news. If i was in a poorer signal area, then i would definitely lose signal.

Good job i never hold my phone like that, were all Apple testers righty eared? Im a lefty eared person, so always hold the phone in my left hand, so this is worrying. Might have to change phone tactics.

same here... 1 bar but never down to searching.. bout to check for yellow..

got mine, insanely happy... but signal is crap. not kidding, never seen a phone that picks up signal this shittily. if i just pick the thing up, it will shoot to no service. damn thing! anyone know what to do to help?

I went into the apple store eariler, got the iphone4 on o2 contract

they set it up

but it says no signal

??

any ideas?

I picked up my pre-booked 32gig from Vodafone at 9:00 with just 3 people in front of me. Passed the O2 queue (who I have just defected from because they wouldn't let me pre-book and only offered 500mb data) and there were about 100 people in it.

I feel I made the right choice.

Trouble is, I've gotta wait until Monday before I can play with it because my number (of 20ish years) doesn't port over until then, Doh...

Mine just arrived and is sitting next to me syncing as i type. The screen is incredible and i dont notice any dropped bars when i pick mine up.

Well I got mine from an o2 store this morning, activated all ok, no yellow or signal issue ( yet) quite happy!
P.s the screen is awsome!

I was in the queue at slough too! I wanted a 32 but didnt get one :(. Maybe a talked to you?!

You have a backpack on, on your way to work?

If so I was a couple of folk in front of you, dodgy stubble, sunglasses and shorts:)

A few more people dropped out when they figured there were no payg or 32GB

I didn't bother with the whole micro sim thing. Cut up a normal sim with O2 free web and wifi for 12 months and its working perfectly (Y) (bar the signal grrr)

Just wait a while though. these things take a while to fully settle in- my web and wifi took about 2 hours to activate- so dont panic! this is just what happens with phones nowadays! all too complicated! ha!

I have the reception problem on my iPhone 4 I just received

i only get this if i hold the sides in a certain way, which i can never see myself doing..

EDIT: This was an O2 EDGE

although, she's back in the box (as i;m at work), so will have more to test with when i get home... also gotta check for the yellow screen issues.

Is it the same aerial for 3G reception and GPRS/EDGE? If not it may explain why some people are getting the left hand corner reception issues but other's aren't - some of them might not be in a 3G reception area. Just a thought.
