I hadn't heard of Simplicity until I saw this thread. Looking at the upgrade links, I decided to see what kind of deal it was. As a test on the upgrade page, I chose an iPhone 3GS and "Simplicity For iPhone" tariff. I wanted to see how much O2 then expect on top of that for the phone, as I'm hoping the new iPhone will be similar. But when I tried this, it said that the tariff I had chosen was not compatible with the phone I had chosen. So, if the "Simplicity For iPhone" tariff isn't for the iPhone, what the hell is it for?

My other question: What's the catch? The Simplicity tariffs seem to get you the same thing as the normal iPhone tariffs. Same calls, texts and data. Same price for the handset. But it's cheaper each month. What's the catch?

You would have to buy the handset at the Pay as you Go price. The Simplicity tariffs do not include any subsidy towards the handset cost.

Add me to the list who would not use 3, however cheap they appear to be.

Customer Service is simply unacceptable to me. I'd rather pay more for better service.

again what do you possibly call them about enough to even notice the customer service? I have only ever called them once to port my number to them and it was quick and efficient, you can order everything online or instore and if you need to register your sim then you do that online through My3, before you call them to port your number - which it tells you to do in the box that the sim comes in!

perhaps if people read the documentation that comes in the box then people have a right to complain about lack of support!

i bought the nokia N900 on pre-order day 1, well the release date passed and didnt get too my door till the 2nd or 3rd day after realse if i recall? well i want to book the day off work to wait for the delivery of the iphone 4.

I just want to know from all of you previous iphone owners who had there pre orders deliverd from last year etc ... did you recive it on the actual release date or was it a day or 2 late?
I dont want to waste holiday at work lol, and no i wont get it deliverd to my work, someone will open it before i can get my hands on it and ive seen how we handle packages haha.

It never ceases to amaze me the reasons why people call customer services, when can I preorder?, can I preorder now before the 15th?, how much is it going to cost?, when all the available info is on their website, why on earth were you calling 3 for your microsim when they have the easiest form on their website to fill in and then send you the sim for free?

They had already sent me the micro sim, i was calling 3 to get it activated as instructed from 'their website'.
They could just could not do it, they kept telling me to plug the usb dongle into the ipad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three had no option to add the data plan on the ipad.

If you order from Apple, they are normally v strict about delivering on the right day with iPhone releases. iPad was different and some people got it a day early (but it had already been released in the States).

Crap, since when did O2 put limits on the data? It used to be unlimited with free useage policy. Now it's between 500MB and 1GB depending how much you pay! Boo.

I have what is hopefully my last question. Every page I can find about upgrading when you're already on a contract says you can do so either online or in a shop when the phone goes on sale on the 24th. But I also know they are going to be doing preorders on the 15th. Are the preorders only for those wishing to buy a PAYG handset? Or can monthly customers upgrading preorder too so that they don't miss out?

If the 16GB is over £500 i'll be having 2nd thoughts. Just cannot justify spending over half a grand on a mobile phone :/

Three Customer Service

but wooohooo for 3 mobile getting it never been dissatisfied with their service, never had problems with their network and I have been across the country with them, and cannot even think of a reason why I would even need to call their customer service other to request a PAC

If nothing ever goes wrong, you'll be fine.

If for any reason you need to call customer services to resolve an issue I have a few suggestions for effectively dealing with their customer service:

  • Take the entire day off work.
  • Book a counselling session to begin immediately after your complaint is dealt with - about 5pm is ideal if you call them first thing in the morning, but make sure your counsellor is flexible with times.
  • Make sure you have at least a conversational level of Punjabi speaking skills.
  • Consider investing in a decent motorcycle helmet in order to minimise the level of brain damage you suffer whilst banging your head against the wall.
  • If anybody else is home, lock all guns, knives and any other potential weapons in a safe and swallow the key.
  • Call Three from a ground floor room and shut the windows. This will limit the damage caused to any items you decide to throw out of the window in rage, including yourself.

Providing you follow these tips, I'm sure any future experiences with Three's customer services will be significantly more enjoyable than usual and only about as damaging to your health as other extreme activities such as nude Arctic deep sea fishing and amateur sword swallowing.

Won't be more than £450, surely?

Could be, someone was saying 600 for 32GB which is ridiculous.

Seeing as there is no longer a years free internet with PAYG iPhones, maybe they should drop the price a little. (Not gonna happen though)

Uh oh. Though as a PAYG customer, I get to keep my current tarrif of fair usage policy. I regularly exceed my 500Mb allowance :)

Having looked at the tarrifs, there is one thing that I am puzzled by, the iphone simplicity tarrifs, I am going to assume that if you want to go on that you will be paying a lot more for the phone than if you went on pay monthly, I am personally going to go for 35 pounds a month on 24 month contract, if the 3gs prices are anything to go by then I would imagine I would be paying anything between 90 and 150 pounds for it, I would usually opt for an 18 month contract but I would imagine that iphone 5 really wouldn't be worth much of an upgrade (could be wrong obviously).

How can they release tariff details and not the cost per tariff. It makes the info pointless as you still cant make an informed decision! Still don't know if i want PAYG on 30d simplicity, or monthly. If we don't get this information before launch, i'm going to blow off the iPhone 4, and settle for IOS4 on 3GS - not as if i will use video chat anyway, and i have a nice camera!!!
