and if they are unlockable they can take upto two weeks to unlock
The thing is though, all of our networks bar Virgin (so far) are now going to offer the iPhone 4. So why would you need to unlock it?, it will be the same price for all networks and chances are all of them will offer an pay as you go phone. So why is everyone getting botherd about unlocking it? Simply get your pay as you go iPhone 4 on the network you wish to have, it won't cost you anymore or less.

What if you wish to change networks or as in my case travel abroad often, in which case an unlocked phone is a necessity. Besides, I'm paying the phone not the network so I don't see why it should be locked.

Posting this here aswell just ti get a quicker answer.
Will it be possible to buy two 1gb bolt ons every month giving me 2gb data?
It seems the most expensive contract right now (on iPhone 4) is £65. I already pay £90 for my contract so adding two bolt ons to the £65 won't bother me.

I've just spoken to an O2 customer advisor regarding my contract...

I am on the "new" simplicity 20 plan which offers 300 mins, unlimited texts/data/wifi and I asked him quite simply:

"Because my contract is only 30 days, do O2 have the right to change my contract as long as they give me 30 days notice?"

"No. We don't have the right to change anything to do with your contract."

"So, As long as I keep this SIM Card, I will have 300 mins and unlimited data forever?"

"Yes, we have some customers who have been on the same contract for 10 years, just rolling month by month, so your unlimited data plan will still be there in ten years if you want it"

I'd like to have it in writing really... let's hope he's not lying.

A few of you may remember a couple of years ago, when the iPhone 3G was released, that customers who preordered from the Carphone Warehouse received their handsets on the Thursday morning, but weren't activated by O2 until Monday evening.

I set up a website at the time to provoke CPW/O2 into action, and it actually made it into a couple of national newspapers. Within hours of the story being published the phones were magically activated.

I've kept hold of the journalists details and I've sent them a lengthy e-mail regarding the new tariffs and how customers are being penalised. People are expected to pay a large amount of money for the iPhone (nearly £1000 over two years) and yet O2 are halving the number of inclusive minutes, charging for MMS and capping data. They're essentially selling us these brilliant devices and then pricing us out of being able to use them...

One of the national newspapers I've e-mailed has already come back indicating they'd definitely like to run this as a story. Let's hope the bad press O2 will receive will encourage them to look again at the tariffs offered.

Apologies for the cross-post!

nice one mate. I'm sure many will appreciate your hard work, I do for sure.

Just don't really use Internet that much, I normally use it to research every now and again, check my email and download NO games what so ever.

Then why have an iPhone?

Not having a go or anything, but I think it's safe to say that the majority of iPhone users have them for the very things you don't use them for. If you're not using the web, e-mail or games I assume you must be using the "offline" apps/functions? in which case why not save a lot of money and buy a lesser (for want of a better word) phone and and ipod?

when did they tell you this? if thats the case im going to wait to see what other companys offer and if no joy, then get a simplicity 20 sim.

hmmm i just dont like how the iphone 4 tarrif table states after october all smart phone tariffs will be capped.

just noticed the vodafone iphone4 tarrifs have gone up.

same thing essentially (unlimited texts, normal mins) BUT the data cap is 1gb instead of 512. i went on to the online advice chat box and the advisor didnt even realise that it had gone live yet.

I just sent this e-mail off to O2:

I am writing to let you know, O2, that I find the Pay & Go tariffs for the iPhone 4 utterly disgraceful and a blantant attempt at forcing customers like me, who haven't even reached 18 yet, to commit to expensive long term contracts.

You can't seriously expect any customer to pay over £400 for a mobile phone only to have to pay at least £10 every single month just to keep the Internet working. On the iPhone, Internet access is essensial to the fundamental use of the phone! Having to pay a fee every single month just to keep it working after buying the phone outright for hundreds of pounds is a total rip-off.

Unless you fix the tariff, I for one am now leaving O2 for good, even if the other networks don't have much better deals, I will still move, simply because I don't want to feel I'm with a company that treats it's customers so badly.

Either fix the tariff or you will lose a lot of customers.

Harsh? Yes. But I'm very angry at them for what they've done, they have no excuse for it, they just want to fleece good customers into signing their stupid bloody contracts.

BTW, I've been an O2 customer pretty much ever since I've had a working mobile.

oh, they've dissapeared again. the iphone4 page has gone back to coming soon. i still have one in my basket though, ready to order right now hahahaha.

They won't reply to that. They never replied to my letter which was actually very constructive.

So when they didn't reply I went and posted it on there message board. Got a message left my a mod saying that negative comments about O2 are not allowed to be posted on that forum.

It wasn't negative, it was truthful and constructive.

Have they even released the price of the phone on the contacts or PAYG yet? Bit early to be complaining, although I was hoping for the same PAYG deal as the 3GS.
Also sounds a bit strange that you will change network even if the deal is no better? At least O2 have given us some details unlike all the other networks.

so hold on.....

we dont get any free data with the iphone on payg now???? because currently we get 12 months free dont we!!!!!

if so im leaving them on principle

That's right, and I'm following suit.

I just got a useless automated reply which had nothing to do with what I said, so I've gone and posted it on the forum. I guess it'll get removed as yours did.

I think I'm leaning towards a simplicity sim. Probably the 12 month. I'm still paying my 3g contract despite it finishing in January. I kept it incase it would help with getting this one cheaper/quicker/more easily. Doesn't look like it will.

They never removed mine! Just slapped my virtual wrist for it. It was quite some time again now.
