Hey, this is my first post here, and obviously the hype over the iPhone 4 has brought me here, and what a nice thing to see, a whole thread for the UK :) I've looked for other places and rarely found this!

My question for you guys is, I live in a relatively small town, and I'm hoping the iPhone 4 is available for PAYG, as I've already got a Simplicity contract, so I was wondering, do you think I'll be able to pick one up on release day or am I in for a wait?

Any answers would be appreciated :)

Nobody really knows for sure but it would appear that certainly Phones4u, Carphone Warehouse, O2 and Apple will be offering PAYG iPhones from launch.

Phones4u are doing preorders from the 15th, and Apple are also expected to do so. No word from O2 or CPW about preorders yet.

1) 3GS was available PAYG on launch day and O2 have indicated that it will be the same this time.

2) As for getting hold of one, hard to say. Last time, I checked with the O2 shop in the small town where I work and they had stock. However, I ended up picking one up in Edinburgh on the way home (they still had stock too - late afternoon) - BUT there was no upgrade path from 3G to 3GS and it is not the same this time. I'm pre-ordering and not risking it.

I'll pre-order it, going to use the o2 recycle thing for my 3g, but that can wait till after the iP4 has been purchased.

That's another questions, has anyone used these recycle websites? Are there any really good ones? I'm an absolute novice in this area of the internet, having my 3g since its release.

No unlimited data eh?

Ok, so Iphones a are a cash cow. ok, So no more unlimited data.

Why then is it given as a free bolt on when you get a Dell Streak on data and talk contracts?

Nothing to do with ripping people off then, no of course.

O2 wrote the tariff but didn't mention anything(AFAIK) about the handset, do we pay it? Is it inclusive in the contract?

I've read that there'll be the micro-sim in the actual box, and the people at o2 will no doubt activate it for you whilst you're there.

I want to get the ball rolling before having the phone, it will take 24 hours for my details and new micro-sim to be activated, when I get iPhone 4 I want my simplicty to be working :)

IIRC o2 didn't offer pre-orders for the PAYG iPhone 3GS did they?

Guessing they won't for this one?

who did u speak to about this, like i said o2 asured me TODAY i wont be capped if i take out a plan before the 24th on simplicity...

sorry this guy is not very helpful but it was an o2 upgrade person on the phone, but then i read the BBC article and it said existing customers keep their unlimited data. so he was misinformed. so i signed up to a 12 month iPhone simplicity plan today and as long i don't change my tariff i should keep my unlimited data.

If it does take 24hrs, then I'll possibly go in the day before, or go in next week and ask them advice on what to do.

Go to www.o2.co.uk and check your account on the MyO2 page. If you're on the same thing as I am, you don't actually have unlimited data, you have a tariff that doesn't mention unlimited data at all, PLUS a Web Bolt-On. O2 can't take out something from your contract, but they can put a price on the bolt-on that you currently use for free.

I BLOODY HATE GURU JAMES

I have given this some thought.

In Jan 09 I bought a MacBook
In April 09 I bought an iMac
In July 09 I bought a 32gb 3Gs after having a version 1 16gb and a 3G 16gb
In May 10 I bought a 32gb iPad.

I do want an iPhone 4 as it looks great but I think I am going to be sensible and wait for 64gb. I can then get all my music on it. 18,000 songs or so.

I would have to pay £200 +£240 for the wife and I to use the videophone to buy out of the existing contract.

Or Buy 2 phones on PAYG.

You need WIFI for the videophone so can't really see a real NEED to do so. Can use Skype and iChat for that.

WANT on the other hand is a different story but for the first time in a while I'll show some restraint..... Probably......Until I see one in the flesh.

I just phoned o2, and asked them what the situation is with my tariff. I'm on the iPhone Simplicity 20 tariff from when it first came out (600mins, 1200 texts, unlimited data). The lady was very helpful and told me that if I bought the phone outright (which I was going to do anyway), I would keep my tariff including the unlimited data when I transfer it onto a microSIM. She told me that it will stay as it is until I phone up and ask for the tariff to be changed (which I obviously won't).

I also got her to put a note on my file confirming that she had told me this, so that they can't turn and say that it isn't the case. I enquired for other members of my family who have different tariffs, and the information was that if you buy the phone outright, you keep the everything from the tariff that you are on, regardless of the microSIM switch.

Hope that clears stuff up for you guys.
