I'm on a bit of summer diet so trying to avoid takeaways however in the excitment of the new iphone annoucement I may give in......

I hate to say it, but I think I have just found the best iPhone tariff in the UK. Good times.

However, it will say TESCO at the top of your phone. Bad times.

Ive liked the look of Tesco's 12 month plan alot over the past months and is incredibly tempting if the plan stays for the Next Gen iPhone, its certainly a run between the 12 month plan and the O2 PAYG....... id probs end up spending the same amount over the year....

My first post on the Mac Rumor forums and all I can say is that I can't friggen wait until Monday! I was going to get a 3GS for Christmas but I held of the temptation in anticipation of a new iPhone this summer and i'm pleased I have waited! :D

Just seen this thread so thought I'd sign in and say I'll be at the regents street store at a very unreasonable hour queuing for my white 64GB iPhone :D
But when...?

Hey people, I came up with an Idea to get iPhone unlocked and keep the PAYG 12Month Free Internet Bolt-on on O2 - tell me what you think about it :D

Quoting from O2 website:

Yes, you can unlock your iPhone for a one-off cost of £15. You'll pay for this from the money topped-up on your phone.

But if you unlock your iPhone less than 12 months after you bought it, we'll take off the free Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On (that we added for the first 12 months). You can buy a Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On for £10 a month when you fill in the unlocking form. Find out more about the Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On here.

Complete the unlocking form - it will take up to 14 days for the iPhone to be unlocked and we'll text you to confirm the unlock request.

Place a non-O2 sim into the iPhone and connect it to iTunes via a USB cable. iTunes will confirm that your iPhone has been successfully unlocked.

When I bought my 3G 16GB, I got the iPhone in one box, from store warehouse, and the sim card in an envelope at the cash till.

There was no way for them to know that this number is associated with this particular model of the iPhone.

What would happen if I never used the NEW simcard in the envelope (the one with 12 month free internet) - and instead I put in an OLD O2 simcard and requested the unlock of the phone?

If they asked about it the NEW simcard I would tell them that I just threw it away, as I wanted to keep my old number and did not know about the free internet.

They surely would not be able to cancel the bolt-on on the new, still unused NEW simcard? Because how would they know that this simcard went to me? I do not leave my name and they do not run a credit check on me when I but a PAYG phone.

Do you think it would work?

PS. The situation with buying iPhone 3G happened 18 months ago, I'm just thinking about pulling this off when buying the new iPhone 4G. I'm going abroad for the whole summer, but then I'm comming back to UK so I will need both the unlock and free internet. And I assume that ultrasn0w will not be available for quite some time, just like it was with the 3GS.

The Apple shop activated my PAYG sim whilst I was there. I had no option. It then sat in a drawer for 6 months whilst I used up the remainder of my contract. 6 Months PAYG wasted. But even supposing I was lucky enough to get them to not activate it. They still scanned it and associated it with that phone. So it might not work for you. Worth a go though.

Unethical, possibly. Justified, yes.

Think how much more work you could get done with a new phone!
See you in the queue? :D

I'm so tempted to get the train down to regent street. Might see Stephen Fry out and about there!

But then again I'll probably end up at the nearest o2 store.

I sent my 16GB 3G back to O2. They pay £204.50 at the moment...

http://www.o2recycle.co.uk/

They've now dropped to £186. They should get mine today or Monday if no one is in to sign for it. So I will just be in the 7 day cut off. Bet they drop my offer to £186. Oh well, still more than I was expecting to get and it all goes towards my new iphone :D

Just sold my 3G 8GB for £255.

Will post it off on monday.. Hope the wait isn't too long for iPhone 4...
