Just wondering, I've only ever had one iphone. I'm in the process of reseting my 3g to recycle it with o2 tomorrow as i'm going on holiday at the end of the week so can be without a phone till when i get back when apple will (hopefully) of delivered it and it'll be waiting for me. What is the best way of setting it up so that i loose none of my games, texts and settings and stuff? Can i restore the iphone4 from backup even thought the iphone 4 should come with ios4 preinstalled? I can see i'm going to loose everything here aren't i?!

Back up your iPhone with iTunes, then when you get your iPhone 4, restore from that back up :)

Alright, I know this will NEVER happen, but what is the possability of the iphone being offered for free?

i mean, something like 45/m + free iphone 4 16gb.

What would happen then? It'll make up for the contract prices..

I know this will never happen!

Of course it will happen, it's been happening for ages!

I looked on O2, to see what the current monthly cost threshold was - interestingly O2 aren't offering the 3GS at all currently. However, the below link takes you to the page showing it as "Free to £299" but on the next page says there aren't any iPhone tariffs available...

http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobile_phone/features/Apple/iPhone_3GS_32GB_Black

As you said, the cost of the phone is offset by the monthly contract cost

EDIT -Sorry did you mean would you get it free on £45 p/m? If so, you're probably right - It wont happen!

Nope... just make sure it is fully backed up, transfer any purchases, then go to preferences, devices and there will be a list of backups.

Then when you get your new phone, set it up as new, then right click the phone in the device list and select, restore from back up

I'm going to call O2 tomorrow and ask for my PAC. Now if pre-orders commence on Tuesday and I decide to go with Vodafone, if they requite you to sign up for a contract on the tuesday will I still be able to port my number of I haven't received my PAC code yet?

Am I right in thinking I've got 14 days to use my PAC after signing a contract with the new provider?

Anyone else moving from O2 to another provider on pay monthly?

I'm not panicking it's just another un necessary irritating addition. Also I've never had a phone delivered so I don't know if they deliver them with a SIM. HENCE why I asked.

Sorry, long day maybe I was a bit harsh.

Some networks do deliver them with a sim but I have had networks ship the sim individually which can be a pain if the handset shows up before the sim card. I guess we just have to wait and see how the networks address the Micro-Sim situation, I would expect them to take the pre-orders this week and ship out the new Micro-Sims by Friday/Monday ready to go live on the 25th when the new iPhone ships to everyone. I guess our fates are in the networks hands.... scary isn't it!!

No. Just back up your phone before you restore it, and then when you get the new phone click 'restore from back up' and it will add all of your apps, games, messages etc into the new iOS. No need to worry.

Thats probably an old page which is still live, because the highest price O2 charge now is £279 for 32GB on 30/m

I requested my PAC code from O2 last monday and they said I had 30 days to use it before it would be cancelled.

I recently left O2 for T-Mobile and was sent my PAC code by text within an hour. I believe you will need to give it to your new carrier at the point of application, that's what I had to do - but I could be wrong

It's 28 days before it becomes invalid.

*EDIT*
Ah I re-read. If you take out the contract then port your number afterwards, you have 14 days with O2 and I believe Orange, Vodafone however need to have it on the day.

I think you get 30 days, not sure on this though! I think your making the right move in phoning them tomorrow for it because come Tuesday the queques to get through to anyone will be unreal!

Quite possibly, I did have to search for it as the iPhone isn't available in the "Pay Monthly" handset choices. Nevertheless it still points to it being free

Np :)

I might reserve and pick up in store just so everything is perfect. Can you do this in the Apple store?

I want to finish the remaining 6 months on my contract but obviously this SIM is a normal SIM and I need a Micro SIM for the iPhone 4. How do I do this so I can carry on my current contract and not start a new one? (Without cutting the SIM)

Thanks

I got another question.

I've had the same phone number for the last 6 years, and do not wish to change this.. How will this work?

How do they change the sim to allow my current number to stay the same?

It feels a bit like this is an O2 thread instead of an iPhone 4 thread. I'm surprised how many people are going to use o2 as their provider given the large choice now and o2's poor 3g coverage.

I guess most of us are stuck with O2 thanks to 18 month contracts.

What he said!

They have such a hold on the majority of iPhone owners, most of them will be in a never ending circle jerk if they want the newest handset and can't afford the PAYG prices.

I'm glad I left for T-Mobile, and I'm happy that they will be getting the iPhone as they generally offer some of the best tariffs, and I never have an issue with signal :D

Surely the Micro sim will come with the handset like sim cards do with phones. Surely the only problems anyone will have is if they want a micro sim on it's own.

How do they have such a hold on iPhone users? Every network bar Virgin offer the iPhone in the UK now, or atleast will on the 24th. So all anyone has to do is wait untill then end of their contract and then leave for another network. If they don't then they obviously value having the latest iPhone over service, coverage, and value for money in which case it's their own fault for being so materialistic. It's not like a couple of years ago when 02 were the only ones offering the iPhone in the UK.

Just called O2 to update my broadband direct debit details. At the end of the call I asked the guy whether O2 would be doing PAYG preorders on the 15th. He said he wasn't entirely sure, but he'd heard something along those lines and it sounded about right.

Just a snippet to chew on.

I've gone and bought an O2 iPhone sim with 12 months web off ebay. Can anyone help with the steps I need to do to activate this when I get my PAYG iphone 4? I already have a PAYG normal O2 Sim. I think initially i could cut the new sim down to activate the sim and then request my current number to be assigned to it, and then request a micro sim. Will this work?

Does anyone know what the crack is with o2 recycle discount code. When i sent off for the envelope for my 16GB 3G (£173) I entered the 10% extra code, which was accepted but I have nothing from o2 to say i'll be getting £190 instead of £173. I've logged into my recycle account and it tells me i will be getting £173.

Anyone know how this works?
