I've gone and bought an O2 iPhone sim with 12 months web off ebay. Can anyone help with the steps I need to do to activate this when I get my PAYG iphone 4? I already have a PAYG normal O2 Sim. I think initially i could cut the new sim down to activate the sim and then request my current number to be assigned to it, and then request a micro sim. Will this work?

I dear hope that the Micro-sims aren't actually tied so that the iPhone can differentiate between a microsim and a mini sim.

Stick your sim into the iPhone 4 and start. As you said.

How do they have such a hold on iPhone users? Every network bar Virgin offer the iPhone in the UK now, or atleast will on the 24th. So all anyone has to do is wait untill then end of their contract and then leave for another network. If they don't then they obviously value having the latest iPhone over service, coverage, and value for money in which case it's their own fault for being so materialistic. It's not like a couple of years ago when 02 were the only ones offering the iPhone in the UK.

As per the quote in my reply, I was referring to people who are in 18/24 mth contracts, the only real option for them to get the latest iPhone is to upgrade early (hopefully for free, otherwise the £20 for each remaining month as it is this year). Obviously you can see out the remaining six/twelve months of your 3GS contract, and then go wherever you like.

And I think it's safe to say that the majority of people posting and checking an iPhone forum are interested in the new handset and are materialistic to a certain degree - don't judge us!

The new iPhones will come with a micro SIM card, or the likes of O2 will send the micro SIM cards by post. They have yet to give information on how to transfer your current tariff/number etc. to it. I have just ordered a 1-month simplicity SIM card from O2 and will require that to be transferred to the new SIM card.

Quite possibly, I did have to search for it as the iPhone isn't available in the "Pay Monthly" handset choices. Nevertheless it still points to it being free

Well the free means for the higher end contracts such as the 50 and 65 contracts where the phone is offered free

Anyone know anything about Orange micro SIM availability, and/or transfering numbers to the micro SIM. My plan is to buy PAYG handset then use my current contract number, but I need to transfer that number to the new sim. Can I simply just ask Orange for a new SIM and for them to transfer my number? Or is trimming the mini SIM the best option in this case?

It should be an interesting few days thats for sure and hopefully by Tuesday we shall have some prices :D

I wonder how big the record is for a MR thread. This is nearly 100 pages, and I can only see it getting much, much bigger come tuesday.

Does anyone know what the crack is with o2 recycle discount code. When i sent off for the envelope for my 16GB 3G (£173) I entered the 10% extra code, which was accepted but I have nothing from o2 to say i'll be getting £190 instead of £173. I've logged into my recycle account and it tells me i will be getting £173.

Anyone know how this works?

Dont worry they will state that the 10% is added when they process your order. I had the same case as yours, I sent my iphone 2 days ago and when i checked my o2 recycle account it didnt show the added 10% but 2 days after when the order was processed they sent me an email and sms with the amount including the 10%. but to be honest i entered the extra code online and didnt send it with my iphone.

As for the iphone preorder, i checked in store with phones 4 u and the guy said they will take preorders for contract iphones only. I also checked with o2 and the guy confirmed that there is no preorder and the phones are sold as first come first serve.

What time do you think pre-orders will start, and until what time are you willing to stay up until?

I have A Level, Mechanics 1. I need to do Decision 1. I smashed Core 3 and Core 4. I officially have less than 8 maths papers to do next year. YARRRR!

Haha. You sound like a further mathematician. I have M1 and M3 on tuesday, had core 4 and FP1 last friday. Then this friday have M2. D1 a week on tuesday. Yes, a lot of resits. But once they're all over, new iPhone to look forward to!

A-level students? With iphones?

You lot get far too much pocket money… :p

In my day, you'd get a shilling a week, and the the only toys we got to play with were made of coal.

A-level students possibly, but as a Uni student, I work my ass off in my job, and not so much at Uni :p Plenty of money, not a guarantee of a Degree...

Scares me sometimes that reality :p

Haha. A LOT of people my age have iPhones! They either get them bought for them by their richs parents, or like me, they work in morrisons at the weekend for pittences! It's all worth it though for the shiny slab of apple goodness.

Yep, I'm a further mathematician. I also take the three sciences (OCR Advancing Physics B is a dead bed) and human biology AS.

Ouch, so many resits  Yep, let's reward ourselves for these damn exams, until August.
