As per the quote in my reply, I was referring to people who are in 18/24 mth contracts, the only real option for them to get the latest iPhone is to upgrade early (hopefully for free, otherwise the £20 for each remaining month as it is this year). Obviously you can see out the remaining six/twelve months of your 3GS contract, and then go wherever you like.

And I think it's safe to say that the majority of people posting and checking an iPhone forum are interested in the new handset and are materialistic to a certain degree - don't judge us!
I just can't see why anyone would get into a 18/24 month contract when they know that in 12 month's time they will want the next version and will be forced to either pay a huge early release fee from their contract or pay for the handset upfront. I myself won't be upgrading untill the beginning of August when my contract can be upgraded early without any penalties. I will also be getting a 24 month contract which will mean I will miss the iPhone 5 but should be able to upgrade early without any penalties when the iPhone 6 comes out, if indeed I want another iPhone then.

Well, my iPhone 3G was sold today for £200 ... cracking return, but now I feel utterly lost.

Frightening how much you depend on having that thing with you, even just to quickly check Facebook or MacRumors while sitting on the couch watching TV.

Roll on July 23rd ... it's going to be a long six weeks.

Dude it's released JUNE 24th. Think happy thoughts.

That's a good return. Was it perfect condition? Where did you sell it?
I only ask as I will be looking to sell my 3G soon.

.

I use mine a lot and think i'd be lost without it.

It was mint mate, but that's because it was a brand new (not refurb) replacement from the Apple Store in Glasgow last month. The previous one had a crack near the headphone socket so I took advantage of the replacement opportunity. I only decided to sell after seeing the iPhone 4 keynote though.

It was actually my best mate who bought it, after I linked the Gumtree ad I placed onto my Facebook account.

Ah, ok.
Mine won't be worth that then. Mine has a couple of tiny scratches on the screen and casing.
Thanks for the info though.

Was it for the 8GB or the 16GB model?

Hi guys, figured i'd join this thread.

Anybody else on a rolling contract with o2 (from 3g launch or otherwise) wondering if they will cancel or upgrade (and queue for ages outside o2 store) or if they will preorder upgrades tomorrow (if O2 will even do this?) or if they will cancel their contract and preorder or get on launch day with someone else.

I'm personally now leaning towards cancelling and preordering with 3 from tomorrow.

I'm on O2, have been since the 3G launch. About 2 months ago (as was out of contract) changed to the Simplicity £20 a month tariff.

I'm not sure if I am staying with O2 or if i'm going to Vodafone. Currently undecided and will wait until i've seen the prices to make that final decision.

Same boat, on £35 rolling contract. Look to recycle my old 16Gb 3G for £190 to put towards a new payg. Then drop to Simplicity £20 a month tariff.

I'm driving down to post office sometime next week to send off my 3G.
Getting it done with envirofone for £183, where you getting 190 from?

Do you reckon O2 will do preorders? theyve never done it before.

And do you think we'll be able to upgrade preorder or do you think preorder will only be for new customers?

O2 do say that existing customers get the same deals as new customers.

'Deal' isnt the same as convenience though.

I remember on 3G Launch day (I queued up that morning :)) a load of original iphone owners had to go to the o2 store instead of the apple store cause they couldn't do upgrades then.

I really hope i can just order the upgrade from tomorrow night... but I do kinda love the idea of camping outside apple haha, was right fun two years ago.

What do you think you'll do?

Time to set up camp in this thread and get lurking.

Are you able to request PAC codes via O2's website? I'd look, but it's down.
Excited to see any potential undercutting or price war for the other networks' tariffs. Namely Orange.

Unfortunately I am working from 6am til 6pm on the 24th, so if there is no pre-order online then I am going to have to wait until the Saturday (same shift on the Friday too).

Namely orange? care to elaborate? :)

I think the reason why we havent got the prices yet but the US have is because they don't want a price war to go on until the very latest (ie. O2 announce their price, 3 then says f*** you whale, f*** you dolphin and gives a much cheaper price etc etc)

is keeping the same number a big deal for you? I imagine it'll cause a few days of not being able to use your phone which is just generally a longting so :/

Yeah, I'm kinda disappointed in O2's new tariff, so I'm hoping Orange, with its better coverage, will offer a more tantalising deal.

And.. It's not a huge deal, but I have an affinity for my current number. It's simple and easy to remember, with lots of repeat digits.

It would be nice to see a price war though. Can only be good for the consumers as I see it.

It is a big deal for me to lose my current number. There are so many people who have the number both personal and work that changing would be more than an inconvenience.
Think i'll call O2 later this am when I get up and ask for a pac code. As I understand it, pac codes are free to request and if I don't use it I don't lose anything. Will be nice to have it on standby in case i decide to change to Vodafone.
