Did you see Image retention on your rMBP with this test?

So I have an LG display, and after about 10 minutes with the test image up I can clearly see image retention on both the dark grey background as well as the standard Mountain Lion background. The IR is visible for 2-3 minutes.

Does this sound like a case where the Apple store would replace my machine?

I wanted to buy a Retina Macbook Pro right now.. but after seeing this thread I am not sure what to do :/

I shouldn't have came here.

I just have one question. if i get ghosting after the 30 days will they switch it for another rmbp?

Im hearing they aren't now. They have an internal test and if it doesn't pass they will repair.

I just placed and order and by all the powers above I hope I get a Samsung screen.

From my personal experience, I would like to advise you not to.

I found it very stressful playing this LCD lottery and return game. I decided to wait for the next refresh and purchased a base MBA 13" for the meantime. Bought it new for less than $1k and probably sell it next year for the same price :)

how is the screen quality in the macbook air? 13 inch

edit: I mainly want to watch blu ray movies 1920 x 1080p. and dreamweaver/photoshop + some video editing. not any large size videos. just travel videos from Dubai, Thailand, egypt trips etc.. 5gb max.

Not as clear and crisp as a rMBP but I saved $1500 for the meantime lol.

I just did not have the peace of mind while I had the rMBP.

I dont know what to do now. I can just buy the air and sell it 1 month before the retina airs come out... then buy the retina air several months from now.

I am confused but the savings is a bunch lol

I did the same.. and I didn't regret it :)

just one question. since the resolution is not 1920 1080p. will it still play 1920 1080p video and does it look sharp with no lag?

watching blu ray movies that i personally rip is one of the main reasons i will use this laptop.

They just screwed us again with this article.

IR = Image retention. It will be gone.
Burn in was used in plasma TV. Once it is burned in, it is there forever.

Thanks. I probably should have wrote my "question" differently. My question really was. If this really is IR, then it goes away (generally can speed up the process by using random images etc....). So is it IR or Burn in? (IR being temporary, and burn in being permanent). The news page answered this question for me though.

The only thing burn in has to do with a plasma is that it used to happen much more often. But can and does happen on LCD tech.

Sounds like this problem hasn't been solved yet, other than getting a Samsung screen. So I think what I will do, is see if I have a LG and if so just go return/exchange it. Really do not feel like waiting for the problem to develop.

Regardless, I will do a proper calibration (as in using a colorimeter) on the screen and post the profile on here.

Try this ultimate test: Stare at the image below, if you get sick then your rMBP suffers from sea sickness... :D

Jes this is funny. But on serious note. I have a burn in with this test(LG), other wise not. Should i return or install all my stuff in it and start working? Id hate when all my stuff is setup which takes a lot of time and then it beacomes clear that i have to rerurn it. Damnit i should have taken the non retina, i guess.

Did you know it took months to develop as well?
I was like you once. I was so sure and glad that my LG didn't have problem. However, it took months to develop IR.

How long did it take for yours to develop it?

two rMBP, samsung screen left, screen right lg
The lg macbook screen looks much better than the Samsung, but the Samsung yellows, blacks are worse, lg screen is well calibrated colors have a colder hue

zero, repeat a thousand times zero zero zero zero zero IR on LG screen.
I made the IR test for 5 days without touching the screen
I definitely prefer the LG screen :)

Friends,

I just created a petition: Apple Computer: Use the same quality LCD in all their computers, because I care deeply about this very important issue.

I'm trying to collect 100 signatures, and I could really use your help.

It'll just take a minute!

Once you're done, please ask your friends to sign the petition as well. Grassroots movements succeed because people like you are willing to spread the word!

Here on a rMBP bought last week. 512GB SSD version with LG panel and I can see these retentions but only with this test. My bar at the bottom won't burn in so far.

questions:

1) is apple replacing displays with IR?
2) are the new machines being built now have IR?

LG Screen with Image Retention problem

I ran the test on my LG retina display and saw the checkerboard. I also see my Skype window temporarily burn in.
