Did you see Image retention on your rMBP with this test?

i have stopped caring about this.

got a replacement computer due to some cosmetic defects and the IR i can notice during testing, however, i didnt even notice the IR before reading the forums and doing that specific test. unfortunately my replacement had another LG, and I didn't really feel like going through the stress again calling apple and frankly love the machine. got an edu discount and the gift card. kept both power adapters as revenge to apple for making me go through this stress, they didn't come back to me and ask for it so in my mind that's a 75£ win right there for my troubles.

the IR issue hasn't shown up in daily usage. My friend has the samsung RMBP screen, lucky guy i guess, and i did a comparison, his gets ever so slightly brighter but i like the whites and colors on mine much better. his whites seem dirtier and the colors are not as crisp.

I'm just going to move on and enjoy this PC for now, scratch the hell out of the lid and get a replacement in 6 months time using the IR as an excuse.

good luck
Nick

I GOT THE LG PANEL...

spent 2grand for this?? NOT HAPPY!

Anyone has the experiences of exchanging? (preferred in England)

How long does it normally take?

many tanks guys!

Took mine in. Was told it was "within specs." Both the genius and the manager I asked to speak with were pretty rude. I don't know what to say. I would say this will be my last Apple purchase, but I don't know what the alternative would be... Windows? Ugh, that's going to suck too.

You should ask them to indicate where we can find the information from their "specs" pages. Even the Apple KB document illustrates in non-profession way regarding this IR.

Horrible attitude toward this IR problem.

NBC has the story. I hope that more "mainstream" news sources cover this. http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/t...retina-screens-may-have-ghosting-issue-846652

Why doesn't Engadget have anything about the problem? TheVerge? The New York Times?

I remember reading the Times business section more than a year ago and there was a small piece pumping Apple's stock saying it was worth a thousand dollars a share. How much Apple stock is owned by tech /business writers at the Times? At Engadget and TheVerge?

I was just looking at the comments on Engadget for the new iPhone and someone asked why Engadget had no story about this problem with the Retina ghosting and the post was flagged and then zapped.

Well, for what it's worth, I bought my rMBP in late June. I had already read about the problems with the LG panels, and as luck has it, I got one. I tested it out, and never got the IR, so I just kept using it. Last week, I was in class and switched from Fusion to Safari, where I had Daring Fireball open, and I could see the Ubuntu UI burned in on the grey part of the website. I did some more tests when I got home (using the grey wallpaper and Check board image) and it would get it after ~5 minutes. I called up AppleCare and told them what happened. They told me to send it in and take a look. I received the box Friday (along with my iPhone 5 :D) and just got it back now. Apparently they just replaced the display, it's now a Samsung, and I haven't gotten any burn in. I'll see how it goes as time goes by and report back, but I'm very happy to have gotten the panel swapped, and the Apple Service was quick efficient as always.

Test passed - I will not let it bother me for now. Seems as though I will have a better chance getting a Samsung display by doing a repair, if the IR occurs later. I don't think my chances will get any better by doing a return/exchange, especially being a BTO which would take longer to receive.

The screen and laptop are beautiful! Gonna go ahead and slap on my iCarbons skin to protect this beast.

Hello, just went to an apple premium reseller for repair.i had a display replacement. And YES!!! it's a gorgeous SAMSUNG this time. Im so excited :D I Think it is better going for the repaid than just return it and get a new one. More possibilities to get a samsung display if u do the repair

I also had a LG screen on my base rMBP. Everything was fine in 1st month. After that IR showed up and it started getting worse. went to Apple genius and he said that they would replace the display.got it back last week and Yes, when I checked it was a SAMSUMG display.
Bit brighter than my earlier LG and .checked for issues.. didn't find any IR , dead pixels .
I did notice that colors on my earlier LG screen were much crisp as compared to my current Samsung Screen.

Where did you go have service?

Has anyone else been following the "burn-in" thread on the Apple Support Forums? A few individuals over there are claiming to have been told by AppleCare / Apple Store managers that LG displays have been taken out of production for the rMBP...

New rMBP owner here...

So far I lucked out in a Samsung screen according to the terminal test... first unit out was a Samsung... only time will tell if the rest is up to snuff....
