Did you see Image retention on your rMBP with this test?

What are people doing to show Apple they have IR issues? Leaving the checkerboard on the screen for 15 minutes? I cant see them replacing because of that.

Btw, when I stare at the checkerboard for a few minutes and look away I can still see it. How do I check to see who made my eyes?

I had never noticed any image rentention after 3 weeks of using my rMBP. Then about twenty minutes ago I typed an email that required some time, maybe fifteen minutes to compose. When I sent the email, I could still see the outline of the window from the email on my background (I have the default ML galaxy wallpaper up). It still hasn't gone away, and it's not like I have to really look to see it. It's there. Is this something I can return my computer over? Should I?

I have the LG. :(

Dont look at the checkerboard! leave it on the screen for a while then minimise it and THEN look. as you rightly say, you eyes will retain the pattern if you stare at it long enough. I maximised the image in preview then swiped back left to reveal the desktop. Very noticeable for me...

so you are saying most of the newer built rMbp will be LG rather than Samsung?

Not necessarily. While I haven't performed an actual study or seen official data, the 3 rMBPs with Lion that I have seen all have Samsung displays. The distribution could very well be 50/50 (even for the older models)--at this point the sample size is way too small to be drawing any conclusions.

I'm simply noting an observation.

If this is a widespread problem, and Apple refuses to acknowledge it, there could be legal consequences. IR on a screen [ especially if it's being used at work ] can lead to privacy issues.

Seeing the %age of people with LG screens and facing this issue grow on the poll is somewhat of an indication that this problem is for real and increasing.

This is rather disappointing!!

Just got off the phone with a "senior advisor" at Apple (first tech support guy had no idea what I was talking about and passed me along). The advisor, Mark, said that Apple's engineers were aware of the issue, and that there would be a firmware update released in the next week or so to address this..

I am very, very doubtful.

In the mean time he suggested I change my desktop wallpaper from the default galaxy one to a solid white one to "reset" the screen, and he had me make a white image and set the screensaver to shifting tiles of that white image. Then he suggested I leave it on white background with white screensaver until the firmware comes out. I just started laughing.

Apple, this really sucks.

LOL firmware. Will it be shifting the screen every minute or so to avoid image retention?

Sadly, I returned mine today . . . LG with retention. It was a gorgeous machine, but I have already replaced it with a 13" Air and look forward to the kinks being resolved.

Just got the phone calls from both senior advisor and apple executive relationship manager. I provided info of problem. Senior advisor asked me to do the same. He said at this point, it is normal display. We will get back to you within 2-3 business days.

In my mind this an issue where I will either have a proper machine or my money at the end of 14 days. It really sucks for people outside this window. I've had enough difficulty within the 14 day period that I probably won't ever buy Applecare again, if I ever buy another Mac.

I received my MacBook Pro back after 2 weeks of it being repaired. One of the things they did do to it was change the screen. The new screen was an LG but I could not get any IR on it after running the test. Hope this helps someone.

They offered me a repair too.

I wasn't happy paying for a 2.7 i7/16/512, waiting 2 weeks for delivery and then having to send it off for repair.

I took my iPhone to be fixed to Apple Perth - didn't have a good experience but the next closest store is over two THOUSAND miles away  The joy's of being in the remotest part of the world....

Are they going to pay my petrol???

I have some dead pixels in the bottom right and left of the screen. I can live with that, but not the IR. She was hesitant to authorise a replacement based on the IR but could on the dead pixels. I politely said that if they can't replace then I'll return it.... Even if I drove to Apple, its not as if they can swap it over as it's a BTO....

Please, continue testing and checking for IR, because it often shows only after a couple of days/weeks...

I just got done at the Apple Store, I had an LG and the IR got so bad there was a whole band running down the whole length screen. They ended up replacing the computer (and they gave me a 2.7 instead of the 2.6 I had!!).

Well see how it goes this time around.

You have to keep using it for a while. The problem will show up after using it for a while. Keep us update.
