My company purchased a few new i7 PC notebooks last week, as the waiting game is getting ridiculous. I'm sure they'll purchase some of these new MBPs once they're here as well, mainly because 75% of our computers are macs. Not sure if i would count these as "lost sales," but some users are having to look elsewhere. OSX isn't everything to everyone - and while legality might be an issue for some, hackintosh is a perfectly viable option.

Your situation may be different in terms of your company. Now, your statement about OS X not being "everything" to everyone, while true, also holds true to Windows as well. This is not about the operating system, this is about people pretending to move on to a PC as if they have NO existing Mac software that they've invested in, or as if their Mac software also works on Windows so they can seamlessly switch back to Windows like it's no biggie. That's BS. If you're just websurfing and doing emails only then yeah, they can make the switch back, but that's rare that most people have no dedicated software for their specific OS.

There are plenty of Core i7 options in the PC world, and we keep getting reminded here about that so instead of creating new whiney threads everyday about waiting as if Apple is screwing people, those people can go get an HP Envy, Toshiba or any crap from Dell. If the Mac is worth waiting for people wouldn't be whining so much. It's not like the Core 2 Duo can't run Aperture 3, they can save some money and get a refurb. Like I said, these complaining and threatening threads are people just blowing smoke, most of them aren't even buying. One poster earlier said just that, he wasn't buying a new Mac, but he was sick of waiting.

so are we gonna get the new macbook pro at march the latest ?

what do you guys think ?

As much as I would like to see a refresh, I am still not convinced we will see a refresh prior to May/June, after the iPad hype has died down. As I previously posted, there are no increases in CPU frequency, and Apple may even be forced to go backward on frequency in a couple of cases or omit the highest frequency currently available. Even though these CPUs will be faster, on paper to the general public there is no difference.

The Intel integrated graphics which are integrated into Arrandale are also a concern, especially if Apple has decided to continue with models which use ONLY integrated graphics. I can see Apple waiting a while longer and moving to the next CPU only when necessary. I hope I am wrong, but my hunch is that the rumor that Apple is not impressed with the Arrandale/Intel IGP may be true.

I'm waiting for the quad-core 13" MBP with discrete graphics, 1tb hd storage + 256mb SSD OS install in place of superdrive, 8gb ram, 4g/3g datacard and IPS LCD.

What?

Yeah, I know. I'll be waiting awhile. That is fine. This is just one step closer.

Apple said 60 days on January 27th, so wouldn't March 14th be a bit early? lol

I would take the estimate of 60 days as the longest Apple wants to wait to release the iPad. IMO, Apple will release the iPad ASAP, especially given the strong interest in it by doctors and certain universities.

The new MBP line will be here when they get here. These waiting threads are nothing but a bunch of people blowing smoke and threatening to go back to a PC which is s threat they will never carry out. They act like they've invested in absolutely no Mac software and they couldn't care one way or the other if they use OS X or Windows. I call BS on this one. If you are true Mac user you will have Mac software that invested in and some that's not on Windows. So to all the people who are dropping these idol threats about getting pissed waiting for Apple and threatening to move on to PC, I say, do it now, why wait? There are a few Core i models right now on the market. :p

I guess I'm one of these mythical threat makers. I was active on the past MBP threads and I 3 weeks ago bought a Win 7 laptop with an i5 processor. I'm actually on it right now. I do have a new Mac desktop as well though and will likely still buy a MBP some time after they come out. I don't consider myself a "true Mac user" as you say or a "true Windows" user, or a "true anything". I use whatever tools in business make me the most productive. With that being said as someone who more or less abandoned Microsoft over the last 4-5 years Win 7 is pretty damn good and if it wasn't for this HP hardware feeling so darn cheap and crappy I'd likely not even have the thought of a MBP in my head right now.

Why can't a rep from Apple come on here and give us some good "UPDATED" news! All this speculation is getting overwhelming!
Getting excited, then I'm not...Getting excited, then I'm not....

I'm an Apple Rep. ;)

The official news from Apple in the coming year is:

March 2, 2010: Refresh of MacBooks. Don't buy one before this date.

March 23, 2010: iPads released.

April 20, 2010: iPads with 3G support released. A front facing camera will be included as a surprise. iPhone OS 4.0 will also be included on these. The iPads without 3G support will not be upgradable to 4.0. This new version of the software will allow video conferencing and VOIP.

May 25, 2010: The prices of the iPad 3Gs will be reduced 50%. We're going to screw the people who bought iPad 3Gs in the first month.

June 28, 2010: iPhone 4 released. iPhone OS 4.0 released for the new iPhone 4. Lots of great features like VOIP, video conferencing with a new front-facing camera. Don't think about buying an old iPhone 3G before this date.

July 20, 2010: iPhone 4V released. Will work on the Verizon network. The losers who bought an iPhone 4 which worked on AT&T's network are screwed.

August 2, 2010: Back to school program announced. Buy a MacBook for school and get a free iPad 3G.

August 24, 2010: iPhone 4 VOIP released. Still $199, but no contract necessary. Sad for those in AT&T and Verizon contracts. Very sad.

September 7, 2010: Back to school program ends. We announce new upgraded MacBooks with a touchscreen that runs all iPad apps. The new Macbook prices are all 50% below the current prices. Screw you, back to school program buyers!

Should we have announced all this just now?

What?

Yeah, I know. I'll be waiting awhile. That is fine. This is just one step closer.

This might be somewhat realistic by 2011 with Sandy Bridge (my next upgrade), though I wouldn't hold my breath for Apple to make the omission of an optical drive the default configuration.

My wishlist:

Quadcore
Integrated + Discrete Graphics with seamless switching (auto and user configurable)
256 GB (minimum) SSD (SATA II or III) standard
IPS screen
4GB RAM (minimum)
ExpressCard slot (for 3G/4G datacard and other accessories)
USB 3 (for general accessories)
FW3200

I'm an Apple rep as well. :)

We will also be releasing the Mac next month. It is a minitower system, Core i7 based, up to 16GB of RAM with two internal SATA drive bays. We are also adding a BIOS boot code stub to EFI so that you can use regular PC graphics cards.

This is coming out in late March. Mark your calendars.

Argh more Mac rumors, I can't take it anymore!
Oh wait, its the name of this website.

Nicely done.

March 14th is a Sunday...my guess is that something (MBP or iPad) will be released the Tuesday before...this gives Apple a couple of days to get it to retailers like Best Buy for their Sunday ad.

These Sunday ads are done so far in advance, that I am guessing those the people who actually know if or when a certain item will be available.

I worked for a while in a large box retailer, with a big ol bullseye, and we would see the Black Friday ad, usually without prices, between the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

it's either gonna be this Tuesday or 14 days from this Tuesday

THESE ARE ALL MY PERSONAL OPINIONS AND pretty much me trying to rationalize my decision to buy now instead of wait for the new ones. Everything I say is speculation and could be wrong so take this all with a grain of salt!

--------------------

It's either gonna be this Tuesday or 14 days from this Tuesday. Here's why:

Since my new MacBook Pro will be arriving on Monday from China (ordered yesterday), the Apple soup Nazi (Seinfeld reference) either wants me to regret my decision to buy as soon as possible (hence, new MBPs this Tuesday); or he really wants to stick it to me and wait until my 14 day return limit has expired (hence sometime in March at least 14 days from this Tuesday).

I do not think I will regret buying now however because I do not need/want discrete graphics. Given this, would you rather have the nVidia 9400m or the Intel HD gpu that is built into Arrandale? If I am only going to have 1 gpu, I'd rather have the 9400m. Of course, Apple will likely use nVidia Optimus and add a nice nVidia discrete gpu on most, if not all, of their new MBPs. I've read about this and it should work fine but I find it more of a workaround than a great solution.

Now, the cpu on the Arrandale seems to be 20-40% faster based on reviews I have read. Is that significant? Hmm, not for what I use my MBP for. My guess is it really won't make much actual difference for most users. Put an Intel SSD in there instead if you want to notice a big difference.

So the other thing is that I'm paying too much for old components in the current MBP whereas I will be paying too much for new components in the new MBP. OK, either way I'm paying the Apple premium and I doubt I would really notice the difference in a significant way between the two given I don't need a discrete gpu (no games, etc). So the new stuff is more of a wowser than a real benefit to me.

Now what changes would I regret missing if they are on a new MBP? BluRay, HDMI, USB3, some mystical better integrated graphics solution, prettier bezel for the antiglare version of the screen. Will any of these really be in the next MBP, nobody knows (except for the Apple soup Nazi).

For me, I think the best thing is to skip this next MBP and hope to see some of the things I would regret make it into next year's model.

There you go, that's my rationalization. I feel better now...until this coming Tuesday or 14 days from this Tuesday. :)

NO SOUP FOR YOU!

I know if your 13 its great fun to make stuff up for the net but it's just boring really. I suppose if I am being fair at least it's attempting to look real :p;)
