Well, isn't that just fabulous... The reason my order was delayed is that the printer that's on the order is now out of stock. It was in stock yesterday, but by the time they came to actually send my order out there were no more of that printer in stock. Rather than tell me that, they simply silently changed my ship date. No email. No phone call. Nothing. It's only because I've been checking that order status page every day for the past few weeks since I ordered it, that I noticed the change.

Printer changed, but even though the machine was ready to ship yesterday, it's now going to be shipped on 25th Feb and delivered by 5th March.

NOT VERY HAPPY. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that the computer is going to be delivered, but at this rate it'll be mid-product-cycle and I'll be better off waiting and ordering one in a few months!

Not really mid product cycle, the Mac Pro was just released. :) As for your wait, I know how it feels, hopefully they ship it all soon. The 8800GT was shipped early after all. We should all technically still be waiting 2 weeks.

Well, not really. My order has always said it ships on Feb 12th and my credit card was authorised for the transaction on Monday 11th. The Apple Store guy said it was going to ship but there were no printers to send.

When I ordered it on 8th Jan, it said ships in 3-5 weeks, which is about right for the time they actually tried to ship it.

Also, since they had one allocated for me with the specific options I ordered, why is it going to take another 9 days for them to bother to try shipping it again? They've just claimed the money from my credit card, after all.

Well, if the trend holds for Mac Pro updates and you were to wait until the next revision, you'd likely be waiting a verrrrry long time! Don't do it! Aaaah! Resist! :D;)

(Not to throw kerosene on any blazes . . . but . . .)

I find it fascinating, having read this thread, that I ordered my MP (with 8800GT) on Feb 8th, with an original ship date of Mar 4th and delivery Mar 7th. Last night, the status changed to "Prepared for Shipment."

We'll see how long it stays "prepared."

Stuart

Yep. I've been stuck on "Prepared for shipment" for the past 12 hours. How long did it take for yours to go from prepared to actually shipped?

Thrillz3,

Have you had any additional updates on your UPS tracking info? I still haven't seen any updates to mine... for all I know, it could still be in California :-(

Nope, nothing yet. I'm hoping it's going to get to a local (main-ish) hub sometime tonight, get transferred to the closest FedEx center, then go out for delivery tomorrow morning.

Also praying the snow didn't delay it.

I'm real happy for all you guys getting your MP's shipped.
I'll hang around and watch the place. Then I'll be sure to turn out the lights and lock the door.....
If I EVER get my MP shipped. (ordered 1/15)

I'm pulling for you guys!

The Apple rep said that once it changes to preparing to ship, that is when they start putting the computer together.

Basically, Apple checks credit card authorization, once the payment is authorized, but not withdrawn, they start making the computer. It isn't until it actually ships that the card is charged.

I'll update the preparing to ship to ship time I experience.

Snagit, did you order a 3.0 unit . . . ? How'd you spec out your machine?
I'm curious since I ordered only a week ago. That's weird.

Stuart

2.8 Octo, 8800gt, 500gb, wireless card, otherwise stock.
No reason I can think of holding up my order.
I even sent an email to Steve Jobs last night. Got a call back this am from one of his assistants who's "looking into it" and will get back to me today. Was pretty surprised, actually.
We'll see.

Interesting (about the email and call).

Of course, by one definition everyone who works for Apple is SJ's assistant.

But keep us posted on what happens.

Stuart

You know I never got a prepared to ship status, the MP went directly from the no ship status to shipped status... but, according to FEDEX it laid around Anaheim a few days before actually getting on a FEDEX truck. Apple said it shipped 8 Feb, FEDEX says it was delivered to them very late on the 11th.

I think when apple completes putting the machine together it notifies FEDEX, but apple takes them over to the FEDEX hub in a truck load, which adds a varriable time. When FEDEX scans the box you will get the arrival status and then in transit tracking when they are loaded on a FEDEX vehicle.

I don't know how much you can use any of apple dates for accurate predictions +/- three or four days, so much variability, just that something may be happening (or not in my case). Once it gets into FEDEX transit, however, you seem to have a pretty good prediction of when it will show up at your door.

True, but at this point if Steve's pool man can get me my MP, I'd be happy.

Mine just arrived :)

It is sitting next to me on my desk here at work... now I need to find an excuse to leave early and set this guy up. Anyone have any good excuses that would cover up the fact I am carrying a 65-pound mac pro box?

Ok.. so how many different status queues are there?

1. Not Yet Shipped
2. Preparing to Ship
3. Prepared to Ship
4. Shipped?

I went directly from Not Yet Shipped to Prepared to Ship, last night. Direct because I was hammering the Order Status window at least once every 5 minutes. I thought it would ship soon after, since it does say "Prepared to ship", but that was about 15 hours ago. It still hasn't shipped. =/ Ship date is today, delivery date is Friday. 2.8 octo, 8800gt, 500gb, wifi, 2xsuper drives and some software.
