For the past three nights I have gone to bed on a full charge and woken up to less than 50%....this makes no sense.
It's absolutely ridiculous. For the past three nights I have gone to bed on a full charge and woken up to less than 50%....this makes no sense.

Series 5 battery life on watchOS 10.0.1 using sleep tracking, light workouts, and Chronograph Pro watch face with 2 weather complications. About 27 hours since last charging. (Battery health at 90%)
I’ll give it a try. After a week of testing I think I found something. For me the cause of the drain seems to involve offline music stored on the Apple Watch. I restored the Watch last week (with backup) and at first it didn’t change anything, battery life seemed as bad as before. But as soon as I deleted the music playlist it was supposed to sync (so no music at all on the Watch) and put in on the charger I got exceptional battery life again, just like before. After a full charge in the evening I had 92% in the morning. After a full day, most of the times I had 60% left, just like before. iPhone battery has also been a lot better.
This has now been the case for 6 days in a row. I was under the impression the re-pairing of the Watch fixed everything for me and I could not believe my luck. But today I decided to put the music back on the Watch (playlist of 1000 songs I use for running). For the last few hours battery life is miserable again, despite all the songs having been synced since noon. Battery life on iPhone is also draining a lot faster. So we are back to where we started…
I really need the offline music for running but I’m contemplating to see if I delete it again, all the problems will disappear. If that is the case I found the root cause of MY draining.
Could anyone who has problems please check if they have offline music stored on the Watch? In my case it’s 1000 songs, but maybe it only takes 1 to drain the batteries of both devices due to bad music syncing.
I noticed the same!I’ll give it a try.
Curiously. My music section of the iPhone watch app always says “updated recently”. It used to say that it would update when connected to the charger. But it does seem to be constantly syncing.
Could also explain why when I turned off Bluetooth and WiFi it meant both devices had super exceptional battery life. To be expected. But more than usual.I noticed the same!
Mine is fine. Even better battery life than the ultra one.No issues on my Apple Watch Ultra 2. 3 days of battery life. Are any AWU2 users affected by this?
iPhone Xs Max, iOS 17.0.3Which phone and iOS are you using?

I am having the same issue.Quick follow up.
Woke up today at 50% battery on the Watch instead of the +- 92% I got the last few days...
Deleted all the music and put it back on the charger but the heavy drain remains the same for the last few hours, even though all the music is gone 😞 Nonetheless I remain 100% convinced that in my case putting the music back on instigated something so the Watch is 'broken' again. 6 days of extremely good battery life was certainly not a coincidence. The exact moment I put the music back on everything went backwards again...
EDIT: big news: after a restart of both Apple Watch and iPhone it seems everything is back to normal. Lost only 5% in the last 2 to 3 hours.
I’ve been thinking if synced music is the root cause of all this, this could explain why not everybody with an Apple Watch experiences this problem. Could anybody who has this problem confirm they have music (even if it is only a couple of songs) on the Watch?
Okay gonna test this. My brother has stunning battery and doesn’t use Apple Music on his Ultra 2. Just deleted my music stores and will testQuick follow up.

Unfortunately, this seems like a very specific bug they ‘solved’ (if you use beta on one device and not on the other). I think a lot of us don’t use beta versions at all, so this only applies to a very specific group of people. The notes on WatchOS 10.1 Beta 3 claim that it fixed a power consumption issue—hopefully the one we have all been experiencing. Just installed it and will monitor power usage.

- Fixed: Increased power consumption might occur when an Apple watch running watchOS10.1 is paired with an iPhone with iOS 17.0 (or watchOS10.0 is paired with iOS17.1). (116348186)

You could be onto something, I’ve been seeing poor battery on my AW1, the only thing that’s changed was os10 and I started an Apple Music trial. As others have said I opened the music setting under the Watch app on my iPhone and it had recent music as an auto sync that was just updated. Turned all that off so let’s see what happens!I’ve been thinking if synced music is the root cause of all this, this could explain why not everybody with an Apple Watch experiences this problem. Don’t forget to do a restart of both iPhone and Watch! You could be onto something, I’ve been seeing poor battery on my AW1, the only thing that’s changed was os10 and I started an Apple Music trial. My Ultra1 on OS 10 was dropping a percentage point, what seemed like every few minutes yesterday. I upgraded to OS 10.0.1 last night, unpaired and repaired the watch and left it on the charger all night. I also noticed the cellular was turned on. It‘s not supposed to connect to cellular unless it’s away from the phone…but I keep it off anyway and only turn it on when I need it. So turned it off, made sure the weather app was closed and will see what happens today.
24hr update. It’s better….but not sure if it’s back to original behavior. after 24hr my watch was down to 50%. That included a total of 3.5hrs of fitness tracking. One thing I noticed yesterday was that the temp complication on my watch face wasn’t updating...never had that issue before.…so I just removed that complication in case it was causing the watch to go through some constant loop trying to update it.
I got rid of the weather complication and weather app widget. Replaced the complication with carrot weather and I’m now actually getting better battery life than with watchOS 9 on my Ultra 1. I was extremely annoyed until making this change because I went from charging every 48 hours to 24 hoursI can confirm this did nothing. I reset privacy and location yesterday. Took my watch off the charger at 10:27 pm at 100% and went into sleep focus from 10:30 pm to 6 am. Woke up at 90%. I’m roughly 19 hours in now and am at 59%. Prior to OS10 I would have been around 75-ish.
…and oh, my weather widgets still don’t load.
OS10 is garbage.
Okay I just started having this massive drain issue as well (can't even make it 8 hours ) just went and checked and automatically download recent music turned on and I have never had that on before. Going to try your suggestion of turning it off and rebooting. I'll report back if this solved my issue or not. After a week of testing I think I found something.
