Thats a lot of sales......

The most interesting part of the article is when it says "It has also sold almost four times as many units as Microsoft’s flagship laptop, the new Surface Book." which you can expect, BUT it's the fact that it has done it in 5 DAYS! well done Apple. Yet some of the posts i've been seeing on this forum, have said the new Macbook's won't sell, and so on. The contrast between what some people are saying and reality is huge, and it makes me laugh a little :D

Thing is friend..speculative reports like that one are a bit like election forecasting.....and we all know how that worked out :D

While i do agree that it's speculation, it does kind of add up considering that shipping dates slipped and are still at 4-5 weeks, Apple suppliers are ramping up production and Apple themselves came out and said sales broke online records. Obviously we won't know for sure yet, but speculation can be fun. And yes i still can't believe Trump is the president, i never thought he would be, i thought he was a complete joke. I can't work out whether to feel sorry for America (I'm from the UK) or to say you are all complete idiots for voting Trump as president.

People hate new macbook ;)
While we have so many dell representatives at macrumors - please take some time and click link to see how dell sales stack up against apple:
https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/09/2016-macbook-pro-sales/

Now please, please comment on this

But i thought no one would buy the new MacBook Pro's? i thought professionals wouldn't buy them ;) IF that is true then Apple have done a great job, in 5 days is impressive!

This was expected, I have mentioned this quite a few time before, I am sure apple did a market survey, and when i mean survey i dont mean them handing out questionnaire. They would have done an analysis of what is being sold more, What laptops are people opting for more and so on, and then would have made their design decision. They are a multi billion dollar company, I am sure they put more thought into this than anyone of us can ever imagine. And i guess the sales number represent it

It looks like most people are not moaning about the new MacBooks, in fact sales look good if this is any indication https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/09/2016-macbook-pro-sales/

1. people are replacing their old stuff
2. fan buys whatever
4. how many are taken back and maybe switched to the TB version?
3. what happens when replacing is over and fans have got their new toys? does it still sell well? how many new customers or were they only current customers?

that isnt interesting what happens in few days. the interesting part is after the first few weeks.

Your first Mac, 17 years of Macs later and then you can get annoyed at the new priority at Apple and lack of attention to important details like ATI sucks with Adobe vs NVIDIA

What matters is that in first few days you sold more units than your competitor regardless of the reasons, which makes your product superior from a purely economic point of view, which is every companies goal.

I am not saying these sale figure = Macbook Pro is great
I am saying these sale figures = Apple made the right decision from a business point of view. Which a lot of people here seems to think they didnt and that this Macbook Pro will be the death of apple

Lack of details like NVIDIA chips worth using have too high of a TDP for anything apple has ever used in their laptops. Which make them not suitable ...
Minor details like that that even after 17 years of using Macs you seemed to ignore

But Apple engineers are so amazing, and NVIDIA would have made them what they wanted customs if they asked

Companies like Apple have a obligation to make a variety of products for various users, or license clones like they used to.

This i agree with, Apple should make a new series, or reintroduce the 17inch Macbook Pro, with a thicker form factor, smaller battery life but better Specs (Higher RAM, higher TDP GPU and CPU). More of a work station than an ultra portable.
But the reason I think apple does not go down the line is return on investment. As it can be seen from the sales figure mentioned above, the new laptop has so far been a success.
A work station that offers 32 GB+ RAM, GPU with TDP of 120W or so, may seem very attractive to a few people that need that massive amount of power in their laptops, but what is their market share? What percentage of people actually want that much power, sacrificing portability and battery life? Students, Businessman, everyday Video editors, graphic designers and programmers will most probably be satisfied with the performance the current Laptops give. Very few Video editors that have huge time lines, or Programmers that run a dozen virtual machines or graphic designers that manipulate huge images would need a more powerful machine, and even majority of those would prefer working on a desktop. So the market for a highly powerful, less portable laptop would not be that big. And it might not be big enough for apple to invest into the R&D that goes into making these machines, as the revenue generated might not be big enough. So yah, ROI might be the reason we dont see these workstations. Because at the end of the day, Apple is in it for $$$$, not for satisfying people

in windows world you have many choices, and you wont see one manufacturer going to be like a peek among others - win users spread all over the market.

you just cant compare apple to asus or microsoft and then telling that apple sold so many more than asus. it doesnt work like that.

macbook pro cant be dead or death to apple until someone else is able to manufacture osx machines. what do you think would happen if there were competition in osx/ios? how many would buy from apple anymore? now they dont have choice or they must leave apple.

And everything you stated, again is a great business decision from Apple. keep a closed eco system where people are forced to buy your product or go through changing their OS

Indeed it is a good decision for Apple. Unfortunately, many of their business decisions that benefit them are at the expense of the consumer.

Ok, I joined this forum last Monday when I ordered The New Macbook Pro 2016 w/o touch bar. This will be my first apple product and I come from a history of using Windows Machines. I have spent a lot of time reading posts on this forum. Some people have raised genuine issues, like Louis's video showing dropping of WiFi signals, the keyboard, the clicking sound that cant be turned off, or the fact they no longer add extension cable in the box. But then, there is majority of the posts complaining about the PORTS !!!!! Every day some one comes up and adds a new post complaining about the lack of ports. Then there are people that come in and complaint saying "They made no improvements, just removed the ports"
Seriously ?
SERIOUSLY !!
Better Screen, Better Sound, Better SSD,Better CPU and iGPU and better GPU in 15inch, better form factor seems like nothing to you guys ?

And then there are bunch of people posting about how they cancelled their orders or returned their Macbook Pro. The similarity in all of them, they have a recent MBPr or rMB(mostly 2015 model) , which is working perfectly for them, yet they ordered a new one, once they get it they realize they dont need it because they already have a perfectly functional machine. And then they return it and complaint about the new Macbook Pro. People saying they returned it because it lacked ports, How can you not know that before buying the machine.....

Those people who actually needed a new machine seem to be happy with their purchase, while those who did not need it or do not intend to buy it are complaining non stop
The amount of whining and complaining is really getting ridiculous on this forum. This has to be the most negative place on the Internet. Even when there is a post specifically aimed at discussing the positives of the new macbook's, some one comes in and start posting why they hate it. Everyone gets it, the machine lacks ports, I am not trying to defend the laptop here, I think apple made some stupid design decision with this particular refresh, but come on, its been 10 days since the release, everyone knows it lacks the basic ports. STOP COMPLAINING NON STOP 24/7. I would love to hear genuine issues the machine has on real problems people are facing, but every other post you open about this machine, you have people complaining non stop about the lack of ports ....
So you made a topic whining about the whine, so meta!

I miss the good ole days when people complained the Macbook had 1 USB C port and was a total failure compared to the HP Spectre with it's 3 USB C ports and no legacy ports. That was an amazing machine people argued.

For the screen I have read two opinions going the opposite way.
This being said, I'm not married to the Razor (and by the way I'm more concerned about the Amazon review you -I think- posted about the coil whine issue, which sounds unacceptable), I'm using it to show you can have your cake and eat it too.
Using the excuse "because Apple" for everything is just plain wrong.
They could have shipped with better processor. they could have shipped Skylakes last year, and the better Kaby Lake this year. They could have given 16GB ram as a base.
They could have kept some of the ports, and not become a greedy dongles company (and man, it was even proven when they HAD to lower the price of their stupid dongles and screen after the backslash).
They could have not bumped the price so much.

Instead, yet again, they 'll have the highest margin ever, which in itself should make you think that maybe, probably, you're getting screwed).

What is your obsession with Kaby Lake? There are no suitable kaby lake chips for what apple needs yet.

For the 13", there is. it's more powerful than the best skylake you can get in the 13" (maxed out), and use twice less energy.
And that's not even the problem. We should have had skylakes last year, then the better Kaby Lakes ones in Q1 2017 or something. instead we have outdated ****, dongles etc etc

How hard is it for you to comprehend that the best Kabylake that you so love is inferior when it comes to iGPU. The Iris Graphics on these skylakes are better than the Intel HD on the Kaby Lake processor.
You get 10% improvements in CPU but 40% Lower performance in Graphics.

I would rather have slightly slower processing power and far superior Graphical Performance, then the other way around
