Apple must have spiked the kool-aid this year with some seriously potent stuff... It must also include an anti reading comprehension component..

You're right, I save up for a few months when I'm planning on making a purchase so I have the funds available. Is there something wrong with your current rig that you need the new machine today?

One hub costs less than $80, do none of them suite your needs?

I have a Dell desktop purely for the 32GB that I need occasionally. As I only need it occasionally the Desktop is underused. I would like to sell it before it loses all its value. Also I travel a fair bit for work - and if I'm travelling I cannot do anything that needs the 32GB RAM. My plan was to sell my current 2014 MBP and the Dell and replace with a 32GB laptop - which I hoped would be a new MBP. So obviously that does not fly now, and I will buy a Dell XPS 15" once they get the Kabylake update around next March. But it is not by choice it is was Apple are forcing me in to - and as I say it will incur costs in terms of software licences.

I haven't really looked at the hubs since I won't be getting the MBP - but I do think $80 to plug in something is way too expensive. Also I'm in Europe so its probably costs even more

Calm down...these whining we will come down with time. Remember the whining about the "new MBP from 2012"
MY GOD NO OPTICAL DRIVE, NO ETHERNET PORT, NO MORE RAM/HDD user upgradable, the whining i think was far bigger than this year, BUT now EVERYBODY who is whining say that last generation (2015) is the perfect choice etc etc...so i bet this hypocritical people will come along in 1 year tops. Usb-c/TB3 is the main port for the next 5 years

As i stated somewhere before, I am sure they did their market survey, and as much people here want 32GB RAM and SD card reader, I am quite sure there is a bigger number of people (specially students) who would have wanted a more portable machine
At the end of the day, apple would have opted for the bigger audience

This is the crux of the issue.

Apple is designing the "Pro" for the people that want portability instead of computing power.

I'd prefer if they just made two lines... MacBook and MacBook Pro. Let the "Pro" deliver the top level of performance, while the regular one delivers the best balance of cost and portability.

The people who need more power now have nowhere left to go because students who just browse the web and write papers are the target buyer for the "Pro" lineup, even though those people would traditionally have gone for the Air or MacBook.

And we all know apple makes products just to please you.
Seriously Admit it, majority of the people in the world would be making fun of apple if they did not change the form factor. 90% people complaining here would be complaining about how apple has not innovated the Macbook Pro in over 4 years.

Nope. I really don't think most people care that it's thinner. Like the phones (which I have to repeat, again) we reach the point where it's light and thin enough, and frankly no one cares.
Literally haven't heard one person saying "hey I love my iPhone 7 it's lighter/thinner than my previous one! " or trying to show off with that.

However, I see people being amazed by 4k screens. By OLED screens. By fast laptops.

I would have gladly exchanged better processor, base 16GB, a 4k screen, or an OLED screen (which would justify those crazy prices :) ) if it meant same size as the previous one.

Also, isn't the Touchbar the innovation ?

And in any case, why accepting those limitations as "normal" ? Other are doing it, why not Apple ? "Oh that's because they're Apple, they don't do that" is kind of a ****** circular reasoning.

I don't know man, it's possible they are shills, but it's possible they reaaaally love, no , adore Apple.
A guy I know personally, defended the fact Apple didn't include the power extension cable. Like, seriously (" Oh it's not too bad, I barely use it, and you can buy it anyway " ). Like seriously, WTF.

BTW for the thread owner, here's my bill for this machine, in case you didn't believe me. Tell me this **** is normal and no reason to "whine".
EDIT: dammit it seems the png gets cut, the total isn't visible ? it's 34801 Norwegian Kroner

(a) You are the one whining here friend, and b) don't tell me what to do.

If you don't like negative threads don't click into them -> simple! As to being an Apple customer for years - I have software licenses - in some cases expensive - built up for the OsX version of the software - not windows - and they don't transfer. Although I have no option but to change to windows cause I need > 16GB RAM in a laptop - it will cost me money to do so in terms of getting new software licences. So yeah - being an Apple customer for years is justification to be unhappy that the new products don't meet my needs. I also suspect Apple monitor such fora as this for customer opinions - so I see value in voicing my complaints here.

"Don't tell me what to do", that statement definitely doesn't make you sound like an adolescent. I'm whining by being in a thread telling people to stop whining... Riiight. We already established you don't have to click the threads to see the drama, perhaps you should fully read previous posts before you reply. If you want to spend your days complaining about a computer that has moved away from your needs then by all means go ahead and have fun. In fact heres an extra place you can vent all your frustration http://www.apple.com/feedback

Please report back and let us know how many changes Apple decides to implement because of your personal complaints. Actually I know you are a very busy person with all the whining you have to do so I will just listen for your name during the next keynote.

let me predict the future, USB -C will be used widely in the next coming years
there BOOOM

And if you have read my initial post, I have no problem with people brining up authentic issues. 16GB limitation, the new keyboard, potential wifi issues, trackpad sound. Thats all fine. Even people talking about moving to Windows is interesting to read if they have proper reasons
But just complaining about ports non stop for 10 days is really getting annoying ...

Or... the pattern that has always plagued Apple could come around again. Apple's forced connection changes rarely work out. Usually the rest of the industry standardizes on something else and only expensive Mac specific devices work with Apple's chosen plug / interface.

USB was already being adopted by other computer makers and devices rapidly before Apple introduced it in their Machines.

Anytime Apple introduces a connection that isn't widely adopted by others already, it's usually a short lived expensive fad that sees limited sources of compatible hardware / accessories.

And to complicate things further, when Apple realizes that very few companies jumped on their bandwagon, they just bail out and go after a new connection that nobody uses yet. And the cycle continues.

Apple released their 1998 iMac with USB ports, and actually they always embraced USB.

FireWire was never meant as a replacement for USB. USB was for every devices that doesn't need lots of data firewire was a solution for big drives and data transfer (and USB 1.0 was really really slow indeed). It was never meant to be a port for mouses, keyboard, etc.

So... yeah, it would be nice to have an actual legitimate example.

This wont be the case this time though. USB C is the new Industry standard and not a proprietary port by apple, and the Industry has already started adopting it (in cell phones and ultra portable laptops) . SO i think we should not worry about this

Well....... We watch 1080p on a 65" TV and are fine with it.. I agree at least a 1080p screen is required on a laptop but more than that is really not needed IMHO...

Apple does have nice, scratch that, gorgeous screens but there was nothing wrong with last years screen either. Now for those who use the computer outdoors and in the middle of the desert on a bright and sunny day, the added brightness will be a nice bonus..

If you work with high resolution graphics, photos and video that far exceed 1080 resolution, these Retina displays are very much appreciated, and I think many professionals do need them for their work.

Ok, I joined this forum last Monday when I ordered The New Macbook Pro 2016 w/o touch bar. This will be my first apple product and I come from a history of using Windows Machines. I have spent a lot of time reading posts on this forum. Some people have raised genuine issues, like Louis's video showing dropping of WiFi signals, the keyboard, the clicking sound that cant be turned off, or the fact they no longer add extension cable in the box. But then, there is majority of the posts complaining about the PORTS !!!!! Every day some one comes up and adds a new post complaining about the lack of ports. Then there are people that come in and complaint saying "They made no improvements, just removed the ports"
Seriously ?
SERIOUSLY !!
Better Screen, Better Sound, Better SSD,Better CPU and iGPU and better GPU in 15inch, better form factor seems like nothing to you guys ?

And then there are bunch of people posting about how they cancelled their orders or returned their Macbook Pro. The similarity in all of them, they have a recent MBPr or rMB(mostly 2015 model) , which is working perfectly for them, yet they ordered a new one, once they get it they realize they dont need it because they already have a perfectly functional machine. And then they return it and complaint about the new Macbook Pro. People saying they returned it because it lacked ports, How can you not know that before buying the machine.....

Those people who actually needed a new machine seem to be happy with their purchase, while those who did not need it or do not intend to buy it are complaining non stop
The amount of whining and complaining is really getting ridiculous on this forum. This has to be the most negative place on the Internet. Even when there is a post specifically aimed at discussing the positives of the new macbook's, some one comes in and start posting why they hate it. Everyone gets it, the machine lacks ports, I am not trying to defend the laptop here, I think apple made some stupid design decision with this particular refresh, but come on, its been 10 days since the release, everyone knows it lacks the basic ports. STOP COMPLAINING NON STOP 24/7. I would love to hear genuine issues the machine has on real problems people are facing, but every other post you open about this machine, you have people complaining non stop about the lack of ports ....

Unfortunately there's more whining than there is useful information. However, the whining+reasons for whining does at least indicate why some people are disappointed and raise some issues that many people are concerned about. If you keep an open mind these posting can be educational and alert you to things you may not have considered. At least, this is how I read the 'whining' posts.

Putting that aside, I'm a long standing Apple user and have decided this new 13" and 15" rMBP is a good upgrade at a good price for me. I did have a Late 2011 17" MBP which cost me $3100. I traded it in for a Late 2015 27" iMac 5K Retina with 4.0 GHz and with 512 SSD and 32 GB RAM. I bought a used Mid 2012 13" MBP for $700 some months ago (and can trade it in for not much less than this today) which I'm finding is too small a screen for my working life.

I have devices that I currently use such as USB2/3, FW800, Thumb Drives, Thunderbolt 1 & 2 storage devices as well as a Belkin Express Thunderbolt 1 Dock.

With a single Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter I can access ALL of the above without any issues. I've already tested using this Adapter using a loaned new 13" rMBP (Two USB-C ports).

I use the Thunderbolt Bridge for file sharing between my Macs and the Adapter makes this possible for me as well. This could mean buying a 2nd Adapter for this purpose.

So my final decision is to buy the new 15" rMBP for the $2,399 + $29 for the single Adapter, for a total of $2,428. So this is quite a bit less expensive that my previous Late 2011 17" MBP that cost $3,100.

I'm unsure what benefits I will obtain with the Touch Bar, but have to believe I will get some. The Touch ID sensor will be nice for sure. I like the non-boot chime feature, I like the auto boot from power off when opening lid or plugging in the charger with lid open, I like Space Gray, I like that its smaller and lighter, using the 13" new rMBP I find I like the keyboard and hope the Touch Bar models are the same, I like that the SSD is stunningly fast at 3.1 Gbps (and this is real from my testing the 13" Non Touch Bar model), I like that the Memory (RAM) is faster, I can live with 16GB RAM, I like that the fans do not go above 4200 RPM when running a heavy workload, I like that when running a heavy workload the laptop is close to being quiet. In fact I find little to not like about this new MBP.

No one is stopping you for using something else. I wasn't paid by anyone to say that.

Did you even look at the bench I provided or am I wasting my time ?

Of course I did. There were no benchmarks of the GPU there for the iris 550. But right on that very link at the top, you can see side by side the gpu specs. The H620 has half as many execution units. No edram, and a lower clock.

It's been pointed out in countless other threads.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_HD_and_Iris_Graphics?wprov=sfsi1

Please have a read.
Iris 550 is 844.8 GFLOPS
HD 620 is 403.2 GFLOPS (at the most).

You are dismissing the primary function of a laptop and used it as desktop, and then use it as your argument. LOL ok

I'm glad you got a laugh out of it but I am sure I am not alone. Why do you think they have connections that allow the MB Pro to be used with a large monitor?

I guess I could get a Mac Pro for a desktop, but wait - it's an almost three years old machine.

I'm super happy that Apple removed the old USB-Ports, it was about time.
You have older USB Hardware, simply use an older Laptop with older USB ports.
You have new tech or wan't a new tech Hardware, use USB-C and welcome the future.
USB-A, Mini-USB and Micro-USB is one of the worst computer plugs/interfaces that ever existed, and was never a pleasure to use.
USB-C is here to stay...

The "thinner" and "lighter" is offseted by the need to carry dongles. Still, this laptop is a much better choice than anything else if one takes future proofing into account. Problem is, according to a survey most people upgrade (read: buy new) their laptops every 2 or 3 years, so future proofing is less of an argument. Just skip this generation and buy the next. My expectation is that usb-c will likely be more popular in a year's time.
