I think I´ll dig this thread up again in late November just for the fun of it.![]()
that would be impressive if they had shown that. They didn't according to this report (which has an attached press release).
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/31/sharps-igzo-low-power-high-res-display-technology-gets-its-tim/
( sharp's own press release from their website the story is based on
http://www.sharp.eu/cps/rde/xchg/eu/hs.xsl/-/html/fascinating-brilliance-due-to-new-displays.htm )
The 2560x1600 display is 10" not 6.1". There is no 6.1". (which makes tons of sense since the 7" tablets are hot right now). The only thing on target there is the 32" , 4K (UHDTV) screen.
I found a screwed up PCWorld story with the reassigned 10" resolution but that is clearly flawed reporting.
The other problem if watch the associated video is the Sharp representative says 2013 for the screens. So the likelihood for a 2012 iMac (or any other Mac this year ) is rather small.
Perhaps a 2013 Apple TV with the 32" UHDTV screen. Maybe a UHDTV iMac to match and get the "panels sold" numbers up.
Clearly, for immediate future, the answer is no. IGZO doesn't make it easier to make the screen. It is easier, less power, to backlight it. But the panel density itself isn't radically different. Packing extremely high pixel density over a relatively very large screen is going to present problems in terms of affordability. The yield isn't going to be good (especially at A+, "zero defects" quality) which will make the price high.
Still so sure fella ?
From your 2012 iMac?![]()
Better off waiting for a 2013 at this point, assuming there even is a 2012 iMac.![]()
You won't be able to buy an "all loaded up" 2011 iMac if and when the new models are released. There will only be standard configured 2011 iMac models selling at about the price of the Apple refurbished 2011 iMacs that are now available at the Apple store.
You can already fit 32gb of RAM in the current models so they really can't improve on that, besides 64gb, but that's ridiculous RAM.
It's just a question of what kind of a processor bump there will be and how much better the new video card options will be.
Here is an image of the 31.5" IGZO 3840x2160 monitor I was talking about. It was in an IFA report, so I had assumed it was shown there.
Image
So with this you could watch 4x full HD images at once! WOW but 31.5" might be a bit big for most users on there desktop.
Based on available components that fit Apple's normal criteria, expect a 10-15% CPU bump and an 80-100% GPU bump across the board. All of the candidate GPUs come with 2 GB VRAM minimum. You won't need more than that unless they shock us and put out a 4K screen.
But surely they could also utilize the 1GB VRAM variants of the GTX GPUs
Thanks for the info. This is probably the worst time to buy one since they could be right around the corner, but I do need the i7 with the 2gb video card, so I should probably buy soon.

Just 117 days left for this thread to get resolved one way or the other![]()
Yeps, in December Dirtyharry will call this thread "There will NOT be a 2012 NOR a 2013 iMac release" ... I don't have time for this !
According to that logic, winning the lottery is a 50/50 game.
Any chance Apple could sneak in the iMac update along with the new iPhone next week?
That isn't true.
----------
I think it would be to much (if its true that they are also releasing 3 new iPods..)
So probably the iMacs will share the stage in oct at the iPad mini event even if its only a silent spec bump.
But I hope Im wrong and they are coming earlier![]()
Actually I hope there isn't a release in 2012 now, not because I'm perverse or sadistic etc. If there isn't, I would just like everyone to take a look back at all the ridiculous "is it going to be released today, this week, this month, this hour, this minute threads there have been. I can only conclude the world has gone totally mad.
