Why do we have to hear it again and again...?
Because no one uses the search function and they just can't seem to understand that the Windows world isn't the only one. "Oh my gosh, I can't maximize Safari on my 24" iMac!?!?!" Morons.

Sleep mode is a bit buggy, and can cause problems if you're carrying around a laptop in a bag while it's sleeping (I do, but that's because I'm lazy). Thus, it's best to shut down the laptop instead of sleeping it.
Ummm, I can't possible see how sleep mode could cause problems if you're carrying your laptop around since it saves what you were doing to RAM which has zero moving parts. I've used sleep mode while moving my laptop for years and never had a problem with it.

while i wouldn't use the word "hate," there's a few small annoyances here and there:

- too much eye candy and no way to disable them. i.e. cursor disappears when typing is really unnecessary. though it doesn't happen often, it's a real drag to wait for the cursor to reappear. an option to disable some of the window/menu effects would be nice. i'd rather shave 10th of a second off than watching the window/menu struggle when the system is under load.

- lack of customization and the feeling that apple thinks you are an idiot - i honestly don't know what to do without shaftshifter and cleardock. i'll save my 2 cents on safari, but the restrictive mail.app is absolutely frustrating. apple should make a mail.app pro that is at least comparable to thunderbird (bundle it w/ iworks or dot mac if they wanna $$$). also, there should be an option to disable the two flippin editing spindle bars in QT Pro's seek bar.

- networking/smb - i hope they really have improved this in leopard. i have to log in at least 2x every time to access some network drives. sometimes weird things happen, i.e. files are not showing when they are actually on the network drive.

- cut & paste in finder - hello apple? you listening?

with that said; however, OS X > Windows. xp and vista drive me nuts w/ all the confirmation and then reconfirmation windows.

The eject button doesn't eject the disc straight away - but I think it should. Regardless of what it's doing/trying to do.

it's actually a great feature for users without full-size KBs.

I agree with that one. I'm slightly jealous of my Windows friends who hit shut down, close the lid, and tuck the notebook in their bag. Of course, it encourages you to make sure the disk stops spinning before picking it up and putting it in the bag, which is good, but I still wish I could close the lid without it sleeping after I initiate the shut down sequence.

on the other hand, windows folks are jealous that i don't have to turn of my MBP b/c it can wake up from sleep smoothly and reasonably fast.

- The low battery warning will pop up six or seven times before the battery dies - and needs to be CLICKED to go each time.

You can always hit return to click a default button (or, with keyboard access turned on, tab and the space bar to click any button); no need to use the mouse if you prefer not to.

Are you referring to Tiger and below because Leopard's iTunes-like Finder is a much better file manager than Windows Explorer. In fact the Finder was the most complained about feature in OS X before Leopard. Complaints about Leopards finder are so very little now I think it's what people wanted all along.

I disagree wholeheartedly. One thing that OS X is missing is a GOOD file manager. Windows explorer, IMHO obliterates finder in usability and function. Finder is sleek and slim and minimalistic at best.

The only thing that Windows Explorer had that Mac OS X doesn't is the side bar that has your root folders in them, where you can always see where you are at in the system.

Other than that it's not that different and Mac OS X's Finder is much easier to use and find what you are looking for. The biggest annoyance in the Windows file management was how Windows slapped files in every file and sub folder on the system, there was no order whatsoever.

When you go to find an Application in Mac OS X there are two locations at best, the Applications folder of course, and the Applications Support which is the second of course. Then there is the odd ball Shared Folder location, but that is something that Windows engineers and can't seem to grasp.

Where applications get installed has nothing to do with explorer itself. This is all moot.

Finder needs a second pane (split window) rather than opening another finder window for your target folder to move/copy data to.

Yeah, I can't accept your opinion without an explanation. Please explain exactly what's better about Windows Explorer against Leopard's Finder. Just saying, "Windows Explorer has better file management" says nothing.

There's also Path Finder, even though it costs $ and I don't completely replace the Finder, it's still the bomb

Hmm, a lot of people have covered the minor annoyances of the Mac.

The green button issue needs to go away, because it isn't an issue. OS X is a multi-tasking OS, nobody wants their desktop filled with one window. Along with Spaces, multi-tasking is taken to a new level and I love it.

I think OS X needs to lose some weight, with Leopard, ram is sucked out like a bad analogy that I was going to make.

I have my complaints about Leopard, but with time the updates will come and I will finally shut up.

Finder has no way to browse (in a single window) from the folder you want to move things from to your target folder if it's not in the same directory as far as I can tell.

In windows I can select C:\temp and highlight everything i want to copy then select C:\blah\foobar (on the left hand pane) and copy it right to there while the left hand pane is still showing the contents of C:\temp.

In finder all the heirchy I can see is what directory I am currently in without moving myself away from the files I am attempting to copy. this requires two finder windows. One for the original directory and one for the target directory.

I take it you don't delete applications very often then. Or your apps don't have any issues that may need to be resolved, or install any plug-ins, or anything else that relates to modifying Applications.

Windows made that hard by putting files in every location the app wanted to install them in. Mac OS X puts them in two places at the most.

You can always copy and paste. That example doesn't show any superiority in WE or inferiority in Finder, just that they are different. Many of the frustration comes from some users inability to adapt, I had that problem when I first switched as well. Now I can get around both operating systems with ease, they aren't the same programs.

Apple will never add a second folder pane simply because they want you to use Super Drag and Drop. That would be the reason for it.

Personally I'd be content with a bloody CUT function!

I still think the browsers need polishing. They still aren't as fast as they can be on windows. IE and even firefox all fly in windows (even in virtualization) but in OSX everything takes an extra millisecond/second or two...just a tad laggy. Also compatibility unfortunately can still be an issue

Flash handling is also subpar, with windows i rarely get to 20% CPU useage when playing flash movies. In OSX i constantly am in the range of 44% to 55% CPU useage (on a Core 2 Duo system). Figures go higher with older hardware

I hope that you're not serious because you can get all browsers on the Mac, even Camino which is just Firefox optimized for the Mac.

I mean, it screams about as fast on the Mac as it does Windows.

The perception is that IE and Firefox is faster because they start showing you what it's loading as its loading it. Safari on the other hand actually renders the complete page faster but is perceived as slower because it doesn't start showing you what it's loading until after a certain amount of time (which can be disabled). It's widely held that Safari 3 is the fastest all inclusive browser out there. I mean, it's really not even close now.

Not for me it doesnt and i've tried all of them. Safari to me is the fastest browser on the mac but its not as fast as IE/FF in windows

Interesting, i didn't realise that was the reason

Memory leaks in Leopard and some of the hardware they put in their computers, namely the ATI 2600 HD video card, I really wish they would have chosen a better video card for the iMacs because its the only downfall of the computer. As posted earlier, I have noticed problems with eBay/Safari, it doesn't seem to load pages well...and yes it is a problem with this combination because it works fine on my PC using eBay/IE. Another thing, for those die hard Mac fans, this thread isn't something to take offense to because its just pointing out areas of improvement. If there wasn't room for improvement then there wouldn't be updates. I like OS X and I think Apple is one of the more honest corporations out there (if thats possible), but every company has flaws in there product. Cheer up, at least its not 2012 yet.

I hear you. The problem is that what one person considers room for improvement another thinks is perfect the way it is. Opinions always stink things up.
