Memory leaks in Leopard and some of the hardware they put in their computers, namely the ATI 2600 HD video card, I really wish they would have chosen a better video card for the iMacs because its the only downfall of the computer. As posted earlier, I have noticed problems with eBay/Safari, it doesn't seem to load pages well...and yes it is a problem with this combination because it works fine on my PC using eBay/IE. Another thing, for those die hard Mac fans, this thread isn't something to take offense to because its just pointing out areas of improvement. If there wasn't room for improvement then there wouldn't be updates. I like OS X and I think Apple is one of the more honest corporations out there (if thats possible), but every company has flaws in there product. Cheer up, at least its not 2012 yet.

None of this has anything to do with the Mac OS. The thread title suggest annoyances with the way Apple designed the OS. You are talking about stuff that's not the inevitable. Safari will improve as time goes by. Remember Internet Explorer has been around since Windows 95 or maybe earlier and it still sorta sux but software developers use I.E to build their websites which is retarded, they should use Firefox which will make the website more compatible with other browsers such as Safari, so it's not Apple's fault that Safari has annoyances with Ebay.
Think about it, there are now millions of websites on the internet, is Apple suppose to know how to program Safari to work with all of them? No, it's up to the web developer to stop using I.E with those dumb active X controls.

Lastly, you obviously are a bit ignorant about the Mobility Radeon HD2600XT. It's a very fine GPU, it's NOT the 2600 Pro which does suck.
I play Bioshock on my new iMac with very decent frame rates and C&C. You should actually "use" something before just posting wrong info.

I HAVE BEEN USING WINDOWS MICRO#$$%% I ALWAYS LOVED A MAC I HAVE 2 A MAC BOOK PRO FIRST GEN INTEL AND AN NEW IMAC 24 ALUMI 4 GB MEM! ITLETS YOU HAVE BOOT CAMP AND PARALLELS WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT IT SOMKES ! THATS IT THATS ALL BOTTOM LINE!! IF YOU DONT AGREE THATS YOUR OP BUT MY OP 20 YEARS MICRO NOW MAC MAC ON TOP SORRY!!

IT JUST WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):):):):):):):eek::apple::D:)

haha hilarious .

firstly thats awesome that youve switched and love Macs and the Mac OS. youve got some great machines there id say they so more than smoke haha!

second learn how to spell. nobody cares about grammar or capitalisation but you really do look quite the fool if youve got spelling mistakes for days... i know your a newbie but seriously dont post in caps again. look around the forum, id say about 99.99% of posts are done in lowercase and its for a reason: noone likes reading posts in caps, some members wouldnt even read your post and just ignore it. do you really shout at the computer screen when you type? thats pretty funny.

third i actually like using MICRO#$$%% windows on my mac to play the latest games. it looks like you use boot camp too. so why are your flamming microsoft?

I just wish the wireless mighty mouse had a right and left click button and I used to hate the constancy of the rainbow pinwheel, back in the g3 days, but htose days are long gone.

It also took me a while to get used to the idiosyncrocies of osx, but when I really gave it a chance I fell in love....:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

I just wish the wireless mighty mouse had a right and left click button...

there is! check out the mouse preferences in system preferences. you can use a right click (secondary click in OS X) with a mighty mouse its just that its heat sensitive so you have to lift your left finger when you secondary click. dont worry youll get used to it in no time and youll start lifting you left finer when you right click with two button mice :)

It also took me a while to get used to the idiosyncrocies of osx, but when I really gave it a chance I fell in love....:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

Mac OS X does this too you :). your right if you give it a chance and not expect it to work like windows youll never go back!

I'm not exactly sure how memory leaks don't have something to do with the Mac OS, and also I'm not sure why you're trying to defend Safari, I was pointing out that it has problems, which is indeed the point of this thread, and since Safari comes with the Mac OS, well....

Oh, and the last part, not really necessary to call me ignorant, because if anyone is, it might be you, because if you read what kind of computer I have, I do indeed have a new iMac, which means I "use" it. And this would also mean that I can criticize it fairly. The driver/video card have had problems since the beginning of the Al iMac and were only recently addressed, leaving some people very unhappy. I don't want to start an argument, maybe you do, but this isn't a thread that is attacking anyone individually as I posted earlier, rather its a discussion about how Mac's fall short in some areas. Once again, I will state that the disadvantages of OS X and Apple are small, but hey, we could always make a thread about what is awesome about Apple and it would fill up in seconds.

What bugs me about Macs?

"delete" is used to describe both the backspace action and the forward delete action. WTF is that? Sorry, but different names can be useful at times.

Blue and graphite are the only choices. Really? Not that I hate blue, but I'd like something different once in a while you know?

nobody wants their desktop filled with one window.

Wrong. People do. Lots and lots of people in this very forum have asked for that to happen. The very fact that you have responded to someone who does, dictates that 'nobody' is an untrue description. I want it to happen. If I'm working on one thing - I don't want everything else peaking out from behind it - it's a bloody mess - and even more so with Pro apps like Photoshop etc that scatter windows around.

Why can't Apple just put an option somewhere - a setting that makes the green button "Maximize to content" or "Maximize to screen" - Even make it better - if you press 1 and then click it - it maximizes it in space 1, hold down 4 and click it - it is moved to and maximized in 4. That would be brilliant.

But no - I'm a heritic for suggesting that - because actually, I'm not allowed to 'Think Different' now I've got a Mac - I have to like OSX the way it is, and anything else means I'm a moron.

The thing I hate about Macs - 1) Fanboy Mac users. 2) The prices of Mac hardware.

iPhoto - too simplistic
Aperture - not too simplistic but with a steep learning curve.
Managing photo folders in the Finder - big pain in the arse.
Doesn't come with a built in coffee maker.

The whole 'cult' thing that seems to go hand-in-hand with it. It annoys the hell out of me, not least because you get people coming on here and thinking they have to idolize Steve Jobs and that they're looking forward to being part of it.

Finder has no way to browse (in a single window) from the folder you want to move things from to your target folder if it's not in the same directory as far as I can tell.

Open your Finder window, press Cmd-3. Boom!

One of the best things about OS X Finder. When used in conjunction with Finder's side bar, its VERY powerful.

Are you referring to Tiger and below because Leopard's iTunes-like Finder is a much better file manager than Windows Explorer. In fact the Finder was the most complained about feature in OS X before Leopard. Complaints about Leopards finder are so very little now I think it's what people wanted all along.

Nope, referring to Leopard as well. The Itunes like finder is no different than it was before. There is still no "tree" like structure that allows browsing the tree on the left side, while having your folders available on the other. Sure, you can have two finder windows open, but it's not the same thing.

And yeah, I'm repeating myself, but not being able to "cut" a file from one location to another by control clicking or right clicking is simply stupid.

But again, other than those two things, OS X and the Mac in general are my preferred computing platform. :D

Well I hate to be forced to use windows in my workplace!

I cannot be only mac os x depend (workplace) but anyone can be windows only depend...

The question is not use no windows at all! But unfortunately I have to use in some ocasions like using visual studio, sap and other software...

...1. You're nuts. Not only are OS X's hotkeys (as they call them) physically easier to use (instead of the dreaded Alt+key combo) they usually work in every app. ⌘+Q quits an app, ⌘+W closes a window, ⌘+, opens an apps preferences. Sooo much easier to remember than a million shortcuts....
...I don't think your inability to remember keyboard shortcuts is a shortcoming of an OS. Just like many users inability to learn their OS isn't. If you think Windows does keyboard navigation better than to each his own, but understand that it's simply and opinion, and should be stated as such...
You're both right of course, it is just my opinion and I should of course be expected to remember the thousands of keyboard shortcuts for menu navigation.

Here's a couple of questions though;
QuarterSwede, what does ⌘+R do, I don't remember.
Digital Skunk, my inability to remember keyboard shortcuts means I don't know how to Hide the Rulers when using the SeaShore application? Also, again in SeaShore, how would I bring all the windows to the front?

HATE the damn GREEN BUTTON. I can't believe anyone finding it to be actually useful... It's more of a random window size generator.

(And before anyone starts whining, yeah I know what it does, and what it is supposed to do, still sucks)

My list of annoyances (not in order of "preference"):

* Unpredictable green button. I already mentioned that some time before: try guessing what the window boundaries after you pushed the green button will be. Overlay your screen with a sheet of transparency paper and draw your guess, then click the green button and compare the results with your guess. Apple should practically advertise it as a built-in game.

* No cut in finder. Why not still, after all these years??? Give an option to turn it off for those people who do not like it, but many people would like to have it.

* No way to empty the Trash and free up space on a thumb drive (or any external drive) without globally emptying the trash. This is bad. I myself had to resort to a third party solution that adds this functionality and is one of the most useful pieces of shareware I use day to day. Leopard broke it but the developers are working on an update.

* That's about it - other things, such as bad networking and uselessly slow Spotlight were fixed with the Leopard update.

It's impossible for a mac to be perfect and satisfy all people since Macs are made by people(who by nature are imperfect)..But so far there is nothing I hate in my Mac

I don't hate anything about Macs, but there are some things that bother me.

1. Compatibility with media. iTunes and Quicktime are lacking several codecs like WMA, AVI, ASF, RAM, and WMV. This made it a total pain to transfer all of my music and videos over to my Mac. At least there's VLC.

2. Quick look. I love it, but it has some strange quirks that become really annoying. If you're viewing something with Quick Look, and you click elsewhere in the screen, it'll go away. Apple must not realize that people would rather use Quick Look instead of Quicktime, because it's way faster. Apple thinks people just use it for checking and previewing stuff before they open it.

3. Maximize/Zoom/Plus/Confuse/Useless/ScrewMyWindowUp button. Obviously.

4. DVD Player. I just noticed this in Leopard. If you try to take a screenshot while DVD Player is open, it will throw up an error stating "You cannot take screenshots while DVD Player is open". It must be some new anti-piracy measure, but it sure made things a lot harder when I needed to get photos from a slideshow I made.

5. Lack of a simple paint program. I used MS Paint all of the time to do simple photo editing. Yes, I could use Photoshop, but MS Paint was so much simpler.

I agree with everything you wrote. There's nothing more annoying than people telling you you're Wrong for wanting features lots of other people want. Newsflash: parroting Apple Knows Best doesn't make the lack of a full-screen button any less annoying.

It's the same in Tiger, I just recently downloaded SnapNDrag for this purpose. It's freeware and works great.

- I dislike Apple not including AppleWorks with new computers for free anymore. Sure you could buy iWork, but for a computer that advertises its "works right out of the box" theory, I'd like something better than a 30 day trial kthx. Also, the basic drawing, spreadsheet and other mini apps were very useful for someone not wanting to commit to Photoshop.

-GIVE US SOME CONTROL OF THE MENU BAR!! It's fine the way it is, but I'd love to mix it up a little more than dragging icons and changing the apple color. Maybe I want it white on black, or maybe I want smaller font? It's just a pain. Hooray for 3rd party in that respect...

-Right click. Bam, I said it.

-Intel classic support. I dont wanna hear all the newbies telling me to upgrade software to X compatible stuff, some things were just done the best in 9.

-For a media savvy computer line, a freakin' cardslot for memory cards would have been nice in at least ONE model. You could even have it be as few as 5 or 3 formats to reduce size...but throw us a bone here.

-Yes, i'll jump on the Green + dot bandwagon. Like playing darts with the lights off when it comes to window size and location.

-It would be nice to have an option to disable dashboard without third party apps to conserve RAM. I dont need world clock and calculator popping up by accident when I hit the button and staying open in the background.

-Aluminum was nice...for the first 3 years. Lets try for something original Apple, a 1GHz G4 PowerBook from 03 is identical to the top of the line Pro laptop for pete's sake.

That's it for me. Thanks for listening.

Well, if this isn't rhetorical, Command "R" brings up the rulers on many Applications, only a few don't use that command. I have never used SeaShore, but if it's 3rd party then one would expect the shortcuts to be different.

However, there are many Apple apps that have different shortcuts from the OS. Aperture and Motion are two good examples. But if you use the apps enough, as well as the OS then you would learn the shortcuts that you use most often. In Motion Command "T" brings up the Fonts window, and in Aperture it closes the top palette if memory serves me correctly. After a while you just learn them if you have to use that one feature over and over again.

F2 is new folder in Windows, and trying to open one through dialog boxes is a headache, so I just remembered the shortcut.

Let's call this the "Make the same mistake Microsoft keeps making" suggestion. Cripple the future for a small census of legacy users who won't adapt. I'm all for pushing the old apps off the back of the bus as necessary, and it was long past necessary when Leopard dropped classic support. Whether we want to hear it or not... it was a smart move and mainly benefited the people who needed to be forced.

Please, no innovation for the sake of innovation. They hit on the right material and form factor... let's stick with it. If I need the world to congratulate me on having the lastest MBP, I'll tape the receipt to the lid for them to admire.

We don't ask Firestone to make the new tires out of something more cool looking than rubber, for example!!!
