You can easily delete files in Time Machine. All you have to do is launch Time Machine and fly back to the file you want to remove. Highlight that file and click on the "Action" icon in the Finder toolbar. Select the option that says, "Delete All Backups of xxx-file".

Ahh thanks I didn't know that :)

That's only for networked volumes, not thumb drives.

iPhoto is fine on my computer. If you have an older computer, don't expect everything to run perfectly.

Yes, it is a single G5, I would still expect better performance from something like iPhoto, the whole program lags when you insert a new memory stick, and changing to edit mode. For comparison it runs iMovie 08 much better.

Because your Pismo likely doesn't support it. Once again, old hardware, not necessarily gonna get you the best performance and features.
Surely it is a feature that could be easily added to the operating system regardless of how slow your computer is.

Third time: Old hardware.
My computer isn't slow…there is no frame lag, it is just the length of time it takes to drag the tab out. Why couldn't it come out instantly? To see what I mean try dragging a tab horizontally to reorder it - it is fine, but when pulling the tab out of the window there's too much of a delay. I guess this effects some users more than others.

because before, when you could just click it, people would eject disks by accident all the time.
It's at the top right of the keyboard how can you miss press it, personal preference I guess, again I wish you could change it.

EDIT: Sometimes you think you didn't press it long enough, so you press it again, and when the tray eventually comes out it immediately goes back in.

Yeah I looked it up before hand, but don't get what you mean. This thread is about things you hate about macs, and even though they are only small things they become a pain when you need do things very quickly and repeatedly.

Sorry, I meant my post towards your comments as more of a joke. I posted my issues with Mac OS X on page 6 or something. I am really just here browsing.

I actually agree with your comments about iPhoto being slow on many decent machines. Mail and Safari crashes/freezes do prevent shutdowns from time to time, and there is an app that allows you to read and write to NTSF files systems called Paragon or something.

Yeah, there are little problems wrong with Mac OS X, I either ignore them or find a 3rd party fix for them. For me, the only problem with Mac OS X is the hardware it's run on. :)

Heh all is good

Yep add that to my big list of gripes,

  • I love some of Apples recent hardware designs but really dislike the fact that if your graphics card or processor goes for example, your whole laptop goes too. (Gotta love the pismo's removable cpu :p)
  • Apple spare parts are too overpriced, and the quality of machines does not always reflect this.

The fact that you have to purchase basic Apple Apps such as iWork 08, Quicktime Pro, and a Leopard update separately annoys me.

But in every other way... I'm :apple: for ever. :)

Opera isn't as good on a Mac as it is on a PC (less features- not Apple's fault, but a gripe nonetheless)

After a couple of days uptime I have to reboot to get things running smoothly- usually basic stuff like CoverFlow

I have two Delete keys on my keyboard but neither can be used to delete files without a keyboard shortcut

I can't delete the Bluetooth shortcut (CMD, Shift & B)- this is also a handy shortcut for Opera but even when I'm using Opera it seems to flip a coin between doing Bluetooth or the shortcut I want

Certain apps won't let me hide then unhide them- at the moment Quicktime's the main culprit- CMD & W a window and then click on the Dock and it won't unhide

Sorry for the long list, just niggles I don't like. I've had my iMac a little over a month now and for the majority of the time I love it but I'm not of the philosophy that "EVERYTHING JUST WORKS". It's a damn sight better than Windows and I'd not go back for all the tea in ASDA but it's not the perfect digital Shangri-La I'd been led to believe ;)

On the bright side, most of the above are minor niggles and could be sorted with software updates, eh?

(Cuddles iMac)

A thing that recently annoyed me is hardware that claims to be for leopard but is in fact so bugged and the attempt to make it compatible is half-assed. I would rather it weren't compatible then I would never have bought the thing.

??

If you mean "Software" that's not Apple's problem. All of their software is Leopard compatible.

Horses for courses, my friend :)

I'd rather run the risk of accidentally deleting something and then retrieve it from the Trash rather than having to use a shortcut.

To each their own.

Ha ha, wait until it happens to you and then you'll have a different attitude about requiring a shortcut to delete files.
I've seen it happen on this forum that some posters have accidentally deleted a folder of files and went to the trash to retrieve them and didn't know where to restore them to, remember Mac OS X's Trash doesn't offer a restore feature because it's a not recycle bin, it's a trash bin.

I take it you mean important system files and such?

I'm not familiar enough with OS X to start nosing around in system folders yet but I take your point.

Expect a "Help! I've Deleted Something Important And Now My System's Broked" thread somewhere in the future :D

That's a good thing to me.

Not necessarily a good or even bad thing for me, but I tend to use the mouse to delete anyway; I tend to rely on right-click for most of my work. So when I go to delete something, I select the files using the mouse (and command, if I'm selecting a series), right-click, and hit "Move To Trash." Then to empty, I right-click the Trash and hit "Empty Trash."

So since the selecting is done with the mouse anyway, I like to do the deleting with it as well. That's the way my mind works, anyway... haha
