Things I hate about OS X:

When you buy a bigger external hard drive you can not just copy your time machine backup to the new one and keep going.

Front Row does not support iPhone remotes even tho it shares a codebase with the apple tv interface and the apple tv does support iPhone remotes.

I love the hot corners feature but the top left corner always takes about 5 sec to work where as the the other 3 are activated in under a sec.

Apple does not provide a package management system like it does for iPhone 2.0 or Linux coders have down with apt.

When you plug in a windows based keyboard it makes the bottom row as
⌃⌘⌥(Space) where it is ⌃⌥⌘(Space) on a mac keyboard and im sure would not be too hard to switch ⌥ around ⌘ in software.

This is easily done with SuperDuper! (i've done it about five times now) I've also read you can do it with the Restore feature in Disk Utility.

I use a basic MS keyboard and the MS drivers let me swap the keys to match the standard Apple layout, ⌃⌥⌘(Space). You still have to wrap your brain around the Windows key being the Apple command key. But I'd rather do that than than deal with the weak selection of Apple-specific keyboards.

- mac/apple fan boys who think they are so much better than pc users.

- belonging to a club(buy buying a mac) which leans towards above.
which kinda condones it.

- the aura and snobby attitude of apple mac users. the misconceptions of macs over pcs.

Oh please that has nothing to do with "Things to hate about Macs". If it does then you are blaming an innocent computer format for the actions of humans. Come on dude.

true true true

i never thought of it like that........

the computer is fine.......its the people created crap around it.
but apple are also to blame for this culture....with their advertising etc.
and the vibe apple send out......

apple created this climate. to an extent.

its like the parents are the culprits, the baby =the computer = is innocent and brilliant, but the parents - the company, and the market around the baby/computer is kinda hard to sit right with alot of people. the actions of the users and the attitudes and stuff.....and apples personality and business tactics.

thats a good comment you made.
i should forget teh outer crap..........and just focus on the computer.

Your point is well taken, Apple may have taken a part of creating this cult-like community of Mac users but there are two main factors you have to consider. Macs are in the minority and when you are in the minority you feel defensive to anyone putting you down and you will point out how great you are out of a defense.

Second factor, Windows users are partly at fault for creating this animosity from the Mac community. A few short years back when you walked into a coffee shop with a Mac, PC users looked at you like you have the plague for walking in with a Mac, like you don't belong. Also the Windows community still feel the need to put down Macs for having such a small market share while the superior Windows OS has nearly 90%.

mmm
interesting....kinda true the first point.
your second point = lol........no way........in america?

Can I just say, to TBi, about you signature.

It's so true. I see it more and more now, people getting then/than mixed up and it's annoying me!! Such basic mistakes!

Thats nothing compared to the people who use your instead of you're, or people who say, "any who" or "anyways". It's neither casual, cute or funny.

It is casual. And cute or funny is dependent on the individual reader.

are you like 12 years old or something? a noobie mac zealot? or just a clueless fanboy?

Apple make a fantastic operating system, and very good computers, but their peripherals devices leave a lot to be desired. anyone who claims that the mighty mouse or current apple keyboard are best in class devices needs to be slapped around the head with the said peripheral until they wake from their fanboy stupor.

My biggest hate about macs (aside from the immature fanboys that have appeared in the last few years, this isnt a games console kids) is the gui copy operations. when you copy a bunch of folders into a folder and folders already exist with the same name, merge is the ONLY acceptable behavior. the Mac OS behavior to delete and replace is flat out broken. if i wanted to replace the folder, I would have deleted it and copied the replacement. OS X makes merging either a long, manual and tedious affair, or something that needs to be handled with command line tools. unacceptable

I love the new aluminium Apple keyboard and think it is the best class device. Am I a fanboy?

... emerging from my stupor ...

Oh right ... I'm buying my next computer based on the mouse and keyboard. And the name of this board is LogitechRumors, not MacRumors.

Let's keep some perspective here ... Even if Apple should be knocked on that mouse and that keyboard, it's hardly enough to say all their peripherals "leave a lot to be desired."

As someone who is not a 12 year old fanboy, I still appreciate the original Apple mouse (better made than anything Microsoft put their name on), generation after generation of great printers (Imagewriter I was built like a tank, Laserwriter launched a revolution), and that's not even discussing "peripherals" like iPods and iPhones.

I think the new Apple keyboard is the best keyboard I've ever used. But I think the Mighty Mouse is absolutely the worst mouse I've ever used.

oh yes, that's exactly what I was saying. you should definitely go out and buy a logitech computer... says the man who's gone from having a home full of open source pc's to having 90% macs. yes, throw out your macs and buy logitech desktops. you'll be doing the human race a favor by unclogging the tubes.

ever notice how a mac pro comes with no peripherals? ever wonder why?

again, you're making up what you want to hear, but we'll move on

iPods and iPhone are hardly peripheral, either device can function entirely without a computer after their initial filling with media; and Apple no longer make printers and havent for around 10 years.

you need to get a grip and realise that when someone attacks your beloved corporation, it's not necessarily because they hate it. I'm a huge apple fan, and was somehow mislead to believe this was the thread to air grievances with the products. I guess I was mistaken.

The .mac integration in Leopard really pisses me off; it's as if they took a page from Microsoft's playbook. I want an operating system, not a platform for Apple to peddle its products.

Get your facts straight. Mac Pros come with Apple Aluminium keyboard and Apple Mighty Mouse.

Such statements greatly decrease the credibility of the author. I wonder what else have you made up in your posts?

Mac do have a few issues.. nothing is perfect but macs are the closest thing to perfect.

- Low battery warning doesn't bother me.

- I never understood the green thing either. To me it looks like it just resets the window because to the last size.

- I hate the lid having to be open till screen is blank.

- why would it get list of items in cover flow get longer.. doesn't bother me.

- Safari is a great browser but I agree it doesn't work right on some websites.

- The light indicator doesn't bother me either, I have this thing that supposably cools the mac down but any way it buts the computer on and angle and covers and the lip covers the light and stuff. Just be thankful you don't have to look at the blinking blue light on the Wii at night! I hate that.

My List:

- Safari doesn't work well on some websites.
- Software selection is low and most stuff you have to pay for (Software for Mac isn't cheap either... Halo for Mac is way more expensive then Windows Version).
- iChat has no MSN support. and Adium doesn't have Video Chat!

Mighty Mouse is cool but I am so use to Left and Right Click and doesn't pay to buy it for like 70 dollars when I got my Rocket Fish for like 30

LOL @ the fanboys defending Mac's ...Embarrassing.

If we don't like something about Macs, that's our choice. Everyone has an opinion.

Get a grip ffs!

well I just checked the online store and it turns out you're right. it still doesnt change the fact that the mighty mouse is a worthless piece of crap and the key travel distance on the alu keyboards will give you RSI. have fun believing that a company can do no wrong though.

it's interesting to see the other side of the coin; normally I'm the one defending macs!
