If they don't exist in word (it truly does depend on the app), you can make and/or tweak your shortcuts in systemprefs>keyboard & mouse>Shortcuts.
I've made a couple of custom shortcuts, but I'm not going to make a shortcut for every command in every program. And I'd rather have a direct keyboard method.

What do you mean? I simple select the cell, and I can write in it (just tried, but again, I don't really use that app either, other than to open already made docs.)
This is for editing cells that already have values. If you start typing, it types over the existing text. Unless I've missed in Numbers, you must double-click to edit. In Excel you can press F2 to edit. This is handy since spreadsheets are sometimes more easily edited and navigated by Keyboard alone. And part of it is that Numbers is still new and lacks some of the features and maturity of Excel.

These issues don't prevent me using a Mac, and I keep finding alternatives -- like Alt-Alpha for symbols, that I was unaware of. But there's a few more gaps in keyboard navigation that I haven't found the OS X replacement for yet.

Here is something I miss from OS 9: If you accidentally put something in the trash, there was a Put Away function that returned the file to where it was before. How come that was left out of OS X.

Just drag back out of the trash!!

Not quite the same thing

Wow, I remember that feature! Actually it was pretty cool in that it would place it back into its original location. However, it was a seldom used command for me. Nowadays, I just Command-Z to undo.

I didn't know Command-Z worked that way ... but it's only good for the last file trashed. Dang!

Technically speaking, this is something I hate about Apple but I thought I'd put it here anyways.

I can't stand this guy...

There isn't a separate backspace key. I understand the Command Delete and Delete functions, but I enjoyed the convenience of one key.

Hidden files clumsily lefty lying around FAT32 removeable media. Today OS X left thousands of dot underscore files lying around when I copied mp3 files to a USB stick. On Windows, I had to search for ".*" and delete them all. 4500 of them! There is even shareware around to get rid of these files. Clearly this is something Apple should allow the user to override. For network drives, there is

Code:
defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

For USB sticks, shouldn't there also be something like...

Code:
defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteFAT32Stores true

These .DS and ._ files cause non-ipod mp3 players to work improperly. This almost resembles a tactic often used by a certain other company (M$)

You can not write on NTFS partition. Unbelievable.
No "move" option, only "copy". Even more unbelievable.
Impossible to remove dock completely.
Installs too many things I do not need and it makes mac slow, especially if you lack of ram (if you ask me, any basic os should be max 1gb large).

However, it is not comparable to pc problems, since pc is just another word for problem.

This is a function of NTFS. You can't write if you aren't authenticated. They could either A) write software or B)incite you to move off the platform by letting you read things enough to get them off.

Uhm, this NTFS, or regular Finder? because you hold down option and you copy in regular finder I think it is.

NTFS is M$'s format. You need to thank Apple you're able to even READ it. Windows can't even read Mac-formatted drives

There IS move. Hold down the Command key when dragging a file.

What things does it install that makes Mac slow? .....

And its not a "basic" OS by any means. Basic is some naked Linux build.

I do not know whose format is which, but does make problems if you work on both systems (ie. pc and mac) because fat32 has problem with bigger files. However, solution exist and it is called paragon ntfs or sth like that.
Thanks for tip about "move", I am not always familiar with dragging (specially if two folders are distant), but everything is better than copying-deleting.

Another thing: no way to empty only one or two files from trash. Or complete empty or nothing. I had to create another folder named "trash" only for small files and use real trash only for big files that need to be deleted immediatly.

And why to keep the small files? If you don't need them you delete them!:)

Without too much brainpower, someone should be able to write an AppleScript or Automator script that will delete individual files.

But it beggars the question, what's wrong with the current setup? If a file's in the trash, it's meant to be deleted. The trash can is not a place to store files.

That's one thing I don't get about people ... why do some people use the trash as like a halfway house for files. Either delete it or don't.

Why would you need to delete just one item? Things in the trash are meant to be deleted. It's not meant to be a place to store files. When the garbage man comes to your house do you have him just take a few things from your trash because you're using the rest of the can to hold your family photos?

LOL! :D Nice one

I've always loved that about the cursor. I think that it's nice because it gets it out of the way so that you can actually read what you're typing.

I'm with Apple on the cursor disappearing (actually, it's the pointer that disappears). The thing I HATE about Windows is the way it's constantly putting up these tiny little boxes telling you what's under the pointer. Like in Outlook, when you're displaying the subject, sender, date and size of a message, Windows thinks it needs to pop up a helpful little waste of screen space to tell you what the subject of the message is, who sent it, when and how big it is.

If Windows spent a little more money on interface design and less on Jerry Seinfeld, Apple might have to worry about it's place in the future of computing.

If files are either deleted or not, then why even have the trash (which Apple started)? I've often rescued (single) files out of the Recycle Bin, and in these cases found the "Restore" command very useful.

I'm not sure if any of this has been said already, but here's my 2c worth:

I own 2 Macs, and have used them at work and at college, but use Windows mostly - even on my MacPro. (see my configuration: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8214321)

The hardware is generally fine - I've only had to return one faulty MacPro for a refund - but there are NEVER enough USB sockets. How am I supposed to plug 2 printers, scanner, monitor, calibrator, joystick, mouse, keyboard, tablet and external HDD into 3 (THREE!) sockets?

Re switching: I'd love to - I hate paying money to Bill Gates, and I hate the frustration of Norton, but it's the little things that stop me switching. Things like:

Resizing a window - if I want to expand the top left corner to the top left of the screen then I just drag the top left of the window. (two seperate drags on Mac).

keyboard shortcuts - there seem to be lots of things there aren't shortcuts for on the Mac - especially the menu commands.

The "Maximised window" view in Photoshop is better on Windows: the title bar of the application includes the filename AND the current zoom. This is vital when sharpening for print - Mac only displays the zoom in normal window view when your eye is distracted from the image by all the clutter of the desktop.

Finally, Photoshop CS4 is 64bit on Windows, and 32bit on :apple:.
