I couldn’t stand the notch on the iPhone and it has zero place on the MacBook Pro.

Anyone else wanting to cancel their order or not buy it because of the notch.
You ordered a $2K+ laptop, knowing about the notch, and now you cancel it, all without having seen and having used it in real life… ok I guess?

Yes, Apple has most definitely turned this "issue" into an aesthetic and almost has me thinking that they'll hold out on going notch-free on iPhones for much longer than what the various "leakers" are saying.

Apple is quite clearly doubling down on the very specific shape and features of its notches and not hiding them as so many always want to point out or shame them for.

You're supposed to instantly know you're looking at an iPhone or Apple product even when you can't see the Apple logo. Removing the notch on an iPhone 11, 12 or 13 would instantly make it much less obvious that it's an iPhone.

Apple will only every ditch notches entirely if they can come up with a new design element that's unique for the iPhone and sets it apart from other brands without question.
Yeah 100% agree.

I instantly recognise iPhones because of the notch and Apple know that the notch = iPhone and now it means Apple.

It’s the same reason why the home button/forehead and chin remained on the iPhone line up for how long that it did, and also the reason why AirPods still don’t come in colours other than white.

Brand recognition is extremely important to Apple, hence why the new MBP’s literally have MacBook Pro inscribed on the base of the device so when using it in clamshell mode from either side you know it’s an Apple product… logo on one side ‘MacBook Pro’ on the other.

I went to look at the iMac in my local computer store the other day and it instantly stood out as it was literally the only desktop with white bezels in the store.

Also the notch will appear on iPhones for many years yet, they wouldn’t have bothered shrinking it otherwise.

you should cancel for a valid reason... like not having anything other than phone games to play on it...

This is the best take in the whole thread.

Apples brand is now “notched devices”

Can’t wait til they put a notch on my watch so everyone can recognize it.
Other than the apple logo we have…

Watch - Square Shape / Crown
iPod - Home Button
iPhone - Notch
MacBook Pro - Notch / MacBook Pro inscribed on the base
iMac - White Bezels / Colours
MacBook Air - Probably white bezels / colours
iPad - Apple logo on the back (not much more required as they have lead this market for a long time)
AirPods - White colour

All the products have design choices which are instantly recognisable as apple products no matter which way you see the device.

Ok, now I cancelled my Apple Watch order and made a thread about it because it was hardly a decent upgrade, but THIS is ridiculous.

Right - AR of my future MBP
Left - my work computer

I’ve been working with a self-inflicted “notch” on my work computer for years and it never bothered me. (It’s a post-it note covering the camera, for clarification).
That super black keyboard against the light grey computer is a lot more jarring than I originally thought.

I don’t like the notch at all - I understand it, it’s actually a clever design, but aesthetically I just don’t like it.

But that should be irrelevant. The type of machine the MBP is, it doesn’t really have any direct competition. So you have to ask, if you don’t get the MBP, what DO you get?

If you don’t actually need an upgrade and have the luxury of simply choosing not to get it, then if you don’t like it, cancel and wait for something more compelling.

If you need to upgrade and need macOS and need the high performance, there’s no sensible alternative to the MBP anyway - you have to keep the order.

If you don’t need the power, get a MacBook Air. (I’ve got an MBA M1 16GB and it’s great for all the basics.)

If you don’t need macOS but do need the power, get a high end PC laptop such as a ThinkPad. They’re pretty good, if you can stomach Windows, and definitely don’t have a notch.

I hate the idea of it but am hoping my brain will learn to ignore it over time.

I love the power and functionality of these new macbooks but they are ugly.

I am thinking of ordering a MacBook Pro knowing there is a notch and then cancelling the order because of the notch. Is this a good thread to mention this or should I start a new one?

Never minded the notch on my XR, 11 Pro, or 13 Pro. It disappears. I expect it will literally and figuratively disappear (depending on the program in use) for most new MBP users.

I think the notch for me was always a welcome trade off for why it’s there. I’ll take the notch to get FaceID. If ordered the new MBP, I’d gladly accept the notch to get a better FaceTime camera and larger screen. Sometimes functionality must come before form.

Im going to end up returning mine due to misleading marketing. 1000 sustained is just for HDR, still has the same 500 nit display. Not much gain from my 2018 which has 1 more year of keyboard coverage, the better display would be nice.

Making a mountain out of a molehill. All the great things about the new MBP, a notch that is usually not noticeable (especially in dark mode) would never deter me. I'm not a huge fan but that wouldn't stop me.
