I just don't buy it. Forget iPhone sales eating into iPod sales or vice versa. Steve Jobs and his minnions have always focused on delivering great technology. You maybe think something could have been tweaked here or there or even disagreed with it, but the focus has always been squarely on delivering something "insanely great". I don't think that is going to change on August 7th.
interesting. i was skeptical of a touchscreen ipod. for several reasons.
how close it is to the iPhone launch and getting around the ability to use your iPod while not looking at it. which is a good thing. i don't want to have to take my iPod out every time i want to change a song.
... nobody's paying $5000 for a 64 Gb iPod because that's just outrageous and the general buyers of the iPod really don't care about storage medium, they care about capacity....
No crap there won't be a touchscreen iPod. (assuming the iPods get updated for x-mas) You'd have to be an idiot to think that Apple would either
a) release a better spece'd $250 device that competes directly with their $500 device, or b) raise the price of iPod so high it gets priced out of the market.
If the new iPod isnt widescreen/ touchscreen no one will buy it. People will stick with what they have and this would kill sales. We will get something great.
If it doesn't have the Golden Ratio, it just won't look right
That's actually one of the better theories I have heard all year.If anyone has any idea what is in their computers (If Apple), you would know that the Mac Mini and the MacBook are almost identical. But this statement is even more brought into the light with the iMac and the MacBook Pro. Again, almost the same exact internals. And they both have the same functions, and all that jazz. But both are selling quite well so nothing is being cannibalized. People pay $2,000 in a laptop for what you can pay $1,000 for in a desktop WITH a bigger screen. Each in its own has its purpose and people will buy it. So i am starting to think that the new iPod may be a lot more alike to the iPhone then we may think.
I was thinking about that too lol.
I think the hint is in the fact that OS X will be included on 'some of the iPods we're working on', according to Steve Jobs. The Shuffle (ha!) and Nano will both remain with a click wheel and also with minor updates.
The iPod just has to be touchscreen and widescreen. I'm happy for them to take away all the phone, maps and Safari applications. Wi-Fi would be a nice bonus but it's just simply not necessary. I believe an iPod is no longer just for music. It's there for your music, photos and videos. The iPod function on the iPhone is fantastic and it has to be included in the new iPod. Surely we're not just going to accept a 5.75G iPod that has an improved UI.
I agree that a clickwheel is good to have, but i's not essential. A touchscreen is the way forward. I've been waiting for this update for 2 years now and I could accept the small update to the range last year but this year, Apple MUST bring an overhaul to the iPod line-up (the flagship iPod model, in particular) or their market share will further reduce.
Apple will sell its soul if it doesnt release a widescreen touchscreen iPod. Since when did they care about sales? Aesthetics, innovation and
non-conforming is what makes Apple, Apple.
