It's smooth because of vsync but at 60Hz but not fast and smooth 120Hz vsync like on other devices. As consumers, we want truth in advertising and not just fair.
thats so bad, what's exactly 120hz tho then I even find the animations open and close apps is a tad slower

Scrolling on safari on an M1 iPad Pro is 120hz. Vsynctester doesn’t measure how quickly the containing view updates, only its own content. You’re describing a different issue than scrolling.

Do Android phones with 120 Hz have similar problems or limitations? I wouldn't know, but I'm curious to find out.

No limitations that I can see in settings, different browsers and apps.

This has GOT to be a bug. There’s no way they would limit it while letting the iPads run free. They must have simply forgot to add the 120fps options for those APIs, or launched the OS before it was fully ready.

it had absolutely better be a bug, because this was EXACTLY the kind of thing i was worried about when they were gushing about their “adaptive display.”

i dont want an ”adaptive” display, i want a toggle. if i dont want the display refreshing below 120hz, then it should not do so. i set my PC to enable output at my display’s native refresh rate, 120hz, and windows KEEPS it that way.

swear to god, i was in an att store the other day looking at a zfold 3, and i absolutely loved how much screen real estate there is to use when the device is unfolded. a display that much like its external, folded display, runs at 120hz.

there’s a 14 day return period on iphones and if this is something apple doesnt budge on, f**k ‘em. i’m moving at least my iphone out of the ecosystem. i’ve rolled my eyes and just “accepted” the rest of their idiotic behavior when it comes to software limitations, but it’s time to draw a line.

apple is so behind, if it wasn't for the eco system I would love to try Samsung and android 12, iOS and hardware just isnt the apple I love

Same. Really thinking of trying Google Pixel this year, as it's the only Android phone that interests me. But I couldn't fully get out of the ecosystem, especially since I just really don't care for Windows.

You guys would love Android 12 I swear!! So easy to use and looks beautiful now since we have material you. All apps run on 90Hz or what ever I'm doing on the phone. So so butter smooth, better then my iPhone 12 Pro tbh.
I can even go into Developer settings and turn off 90Hz across the board which no iPhone will ever get that settings lol

Just my 2 cent worth.

P.s lucky I didn't buy the iPhone 13😋

This is apples first iPhone with it, give it some time. Sheesh. People put apple on such a pedestal.

so apple did r&d for years on their first device to have a 120hz display, and botched this this badly?

TV’s beat them to having native 120hz displays (not interpolation) with gsync, and they make this mistake? the pc gaming market has moved on to having displays with 300+hz refresh rates and they’re having problems at 120?

i had a 1440p144hz display 5 years ago. you know what windows never had a problem doing? outputting 144fps when i #$@%ing told it to.

thats not fair, but safari does scroll smoother on iPhone 13 pro and iPad Pro m1 so how can it still be 60hz
I agree it is smoother on the iPad Pro, the difference can be confirmed by toggling the limit frame rate option setting under accessibility on any iPad Pro with promotion.

I see it that way: When Apple is bragging about how this is (again) the biggest iPhone upgrade EVER, then I expect it to work as advertised NOW and not 4 months down the road. After all, Apple has received my money NOW and not in 4 months from now. I‘m not putting Apple on such a pedestal but when shelling out 1000+ $ for a product I do expect to get the features I’m paying for right out of the box rather than having to wait for iOS 15.x. Apple is a trillion dollar company, surely they could have managed to take the necessary actions to implement the 120 Hz throughout right from the start, if they were willing to. Maybe this is just an oversight, but it‘s inevitably so by trying to throw the new phone into market as soon as possible maximizing profit.
Its just marketing. Windows 11 is the BEST operating system EVER! I really don't know why people complain about this every single keynote from Apple.

That doesn't do anything for me except make games like Sky Force Reloaded run at like 15fps on the iPad Pro 11 M1 with frame rate limit on.

People really need to limit their expectations. Nothing Apple stated goes against what the refresh rate does. It is dynamic, going to as low as 10hz, to as high as 120hz. This is not like a monitor that is 120hz 100% of the time. So Safari with a vsynctester is limiting it to 60 hz, but the minute you scroll it jumps to 120hz. Exactly how Apple explained this functionality would work. It would kill the battery to have it always at 120hz.

Also, has anyone looked at the gaming functionality yet? Other devs said they were able to get 120fps in their games. The Gaming API probably unlocks it to always run at that frame rate.

Which is some ********!!! I know this got censored but still. It’s be nice to take advantage of those flows directly! I guess it’s just another feature TBD until it trickles down to outside devs.

So let’s compare some displays that must be constantly plugged into a wall to a mobile device. 🤷🏻‍♂️

sounds like you might have a defective iPad or something then. The frame rate limiter limits the refresh to 60, not sure why sky force would drop to 15

the smoother scrolling in safari with promotion on vs off on my device is very noticeable.

yeah sure, if that’s what you’d like to reduce it down to.

or you can read about the tech, become educated, and delete the absurd comment.

or let’s compare it to the ipad, which doesn’t need to be “constantly plugged into the wall” and doesnt have this problem.

any other nonsense you wanna spew, or are you done?

TBH, the 120Hz TruMotion is one of the bigger new features of the iPhone 13 Pro. I guess that says a lot about how mediocre the iPhone 13 is if a feature that has existed on Android for years is one of the more anticipated features on the iPhone.
