After the face has been recognized, we’ll double press the lock button twice to confirm.

I know a lot of us were worried about unwanted authentications.

for apple pay i guess nothing is more convenient than touch id. now you have to put your phone up to the nfc terminal, take it away and scan your face and then go back to the terminal!? sounds meh.... but we'll see

Yes, TouchID is more convenient. Apple is gonna ruin itself with this iPhone. Removing convenient home button, touchid..Double pressing the lock button even when we got faceid, so many different steps to what we've been using so far - a simple thumb in the home button and done.

This is the price we pay for going bezel-less (well, this and $1000). There are some things that you really can't get any simpler than just having a button/tactile surface for, but there's no space for one.

Face ID is a mistake by Apple. Only because there is no option for Touch ID. Like I said before Touch ID will eventually make it to the OLED phones.

According to reports, they tried. They're probably (almost) as disappointed that they didn't figure it out in time as we are.
they did actually figure it out. there is a patent but i guess they couldn't produce that many OLEDs with a build in touch ID

Saying FaceID is a mistake because TouchID (probably) won't be available for you is not logical. The two features in question don't rely upon one another. Therefore, the new iPhone can work well with FaceID and not TouchID.

I remember all the doom and gloom posts when TouchID was rumored to be coming to the new phone. And slowly over time, people realized that a lot of what they read on the forum was nothing more than emotional hyperbole by a lot of people who don't like change, unless they can dictate what changes.

Apple may not get it right every time. At least give them a chance before making the kind of statement you did.

A patent doesn't necessarily mean that you have a something ready to put out, even on a small scale. It pretty much just means that they have a feasible idea of how to do it, but it may still need a lot of R & D.

OLED panels had yield issues, which was part of the issue. But Apple reportedly extended a contract with LG after Samsungs contract will end to help assists with the production.

Even if you are correct about touch ID eventually making its way to the OLED Model, do you really think a company of the magnitude Apple is would make a mistake by releasing technology that they wouldn't have faith in?

I agree with this, it's not like Apple have quickly put this in the new iPhone they have been working on it for many years also the iPhone X will the only one to have it because it's the future generation of iPhones, I wouldn't be surprised to see "Face ID" come to a bigger iPhone X next year.

Yes.

because they arent first to the market with

mass bezel decrease (samsung)
oled (samsung)
wireless charging (qualcomm/samsung)
wide aspect ratio (samsung)
dual camera (htc/samsung)
water resistance (samsung)

way overpriced device (samsung)
[doublepost=1505028276][/doublepost]I cant wait until this event finishes and people write and sing the praises of FaceID as this revolutionary leap in efficiency when the truth is....

it wasnt apple's first choice for security.

they wanted the fingerprint sensor under the screen. But after this event, people are going to only talk about how much more practical FaceID is over touchid, only because they will have been fooled by the presentation. They didnt even want to use faceid. they were forced to.

This is a misconception, Apple doesn't need to be a first to the market releasing the latest technology or physical refinements with their devices. They need to be the best at what they do, even if that means it takes a longer duration to release it. Apple understands this and so does the other millions of iPhone Users.
