When I upgraded from iPhone 4 (which was my first iPhone) to 5s, I was very happy. And yet, I felt it was lacking something. I had the same feeling when I moved to 6 plus and then 6s plus and lastly the 7 plus. Mainly, with the 6 plus and 7 plus, the feeling of something lacking was more than my feeling of satisfaction.

But with the X, I feel like this is the phone I had always wanted, but never knew 🙂. This is the first time that I don't have the feeling of something lacking in the iPhone. Am at complete awe!

Slow down. It's a great phone and I own one, but it is about equal to the Galaxy S8, which I also own. The problem is that Apple has used old technology for so long, when they finally move up it's viewed like it's a miracle.
Lol, not exactly. You can’t even compare build quality - and not to mention Samsung issues in general. Sorry - just the facts.

And then you put a $10 plastic case on it. Magical feeling gone.
I think you've really nailed it. I played with the X for a few minutes today. Looked/felt impressive, but I wasn't as wowed as some folks have been. Played with an SE, too. That feel pretty good, too (I'm a big fan of one-handed usability). I recently took the tech21 case off of my iPhone 6S just to reposition a magnet I had in there for a car mount I bought. Using it without the case makes the phone feel so much more amazing. The thinness/lightness of it really stands out. And, yeah, that's true of iPhones all the way back to the 6.

But most of us can't use them without a case. They're far too fragile to use the way that Jony has the luxury of using them day in and day out. Jony doesn't need to use a case because if the phone slips out of his hand, he just makes a quick inter-office phone call and they give him a new one. He doesn't have to pay a dime for it (and even if he did, he's got enough millions in the bank that he probably wouldn't care too much).

But for 99% of the rest of the world, we have to worry about such things. So we pay an extra $200 for AppleCare. But that's still not enough, because if you drop it and shatter the screen, you still have to shell out more money for the repair. That said, I just took a look and see that it's only $29 for a screen repair. Maybe I'll try going naked (with AppleCare+) on my X just so I can experience it the way Jony does.

I still think that they should be looking to do more to make the phones more "grippy" so that "slippage" is less of an issue. As it is, it's almost like they intentionally design them to be dropped/fumbled easily.

Another ooh and ahh thread (Don’t read if your a hater)

I’ve owned many iPhones and the X is unreal. I keep staring at it because it doesn’t even seem real. Everything from the animation, the painting like screen, the gestures, that Taptic Engine, the tone change, that phenomenal full screen (especially viewing photos), and the damn absolute perfect premium quality of the device in my hand is blowing my mind. I’m usually able to take these devices for what they are and have my honeymoon phase end almost immediately after using it..but this one is special.

Anybody else not able to stop using/looking at this thing? 😱
What logical, sane & mature person would hate on a bold & brave device like the X?

You say that based on what? That Samsung has been using OLED for years? Thats a narrow view and doesn’t make the iPhone X a “catch up” device.

Apple has been years ahead of Samsung in many important respects. Apple CPUs are widely regarded as industry-leading. The A11 benchmarks better than an Intel I5. The Snapdragon is way behind. You feel this difference every time you use the phone.

iOS is way more efficient and polished than Android+Touchwiz.

The build quality of the X far exceeds anything Samsung has put out.

Samsung has face authentication first but from everything I read, it sucks. FaceID is an entirely more advanced technology and works much better.

I fail to see how Apple is or has been behind Samsung as you say.

You were almost sounding credible right up until, "everything I've read...". You are arguing with someone that has used both devices, but you know more how they compare?

I find it funny how much I loved and adored my iPhone 7+. Fantastic high quality device. When I deactivated it and reset it to sell it, it literally felt like a piece of 10 year old obsolete trash next to my iPhone X.

Again, I loved that phone and know it’s amazing. But in comparison to the X it’s yesterday’s news.

iPhone X the best iPhone I ever owned.

Ahh the beauty of apple. Til September ‘18: ‘wow the iPhone X Plus is the best phone ever.’ ‘Wow the iPhone Xs Plus is the best phone ever!’ Lol it’s fun

What I really love about this phone is that I keep discovering new things I live about it. I love how it feels in the hand, I love how the display and the notch curve in a really nice way, I love the wireless charging, I love how beautiful the display is, at night I love True Tone, I love when apps are optimized for the display and even when they aren’t I love that the bars on the top and bottom are truely black thanks to the OLED panel. It feels like a device I can keep falling in love with over and over again.

I couldn’t agree more with OP.
I was truly happy with my 7+ but the iPhone X is just perfection.
I was worried about losing 5mm of screen width but I’m really happy with the screen size.
It’s great to be able to use a phone one handed again.
The notch is a complete non issue for me.
Face ID is fantastic.
The Oled screen is awesome.
The speed of this iPhone is spot on.
My typing is no less accurate than it was on the plus.
I can’t find even one thing that I’m not happy about.
If you are thinking about upgrading just go for it, with a 14 day return period you can’t go wrong.
The big decision will be wether to go for a plus size if one comes out.
No I don’t work for Apple in case you’re wondering.
Enjoy your iPhone X’s folks!

Gesture control and Face ID will easily expand into the iPad line I believe as well. Once Apple eliminates the home button on the iPad, and when they implement Face ID, gesture control will be a role as well. So this is just the start for where this will lead to.

FaceID could be faster, and even though the screen is nice it still isn’t on par with others. Other than that, great phone.

And then you put a $10 plastic case on it. Magical feeling gone.
For me, the "magic" is in the total experience of the phone's hardware and software ability integrated in such a manner, that it makes the users experience pleasant, seamless and productive.

Putting a case on a phone should not remove the "magic," in my opinion. If it does, who are you (plural use) trying to impress?

I’m having a difficult time keeping my hands off my X. To the point, I’m wondering if I have a problem.
Best iPhone ever, no doubt.

[doublepost=1510549854][/doublepost]Sorry, but nope. The X coupled with iOS, is simply a much better overall product than the S8. Beginning with battery life and ending with the OS’s overall functionality.

Oh, so you actually like it. It's very real even from someone who hasn't acquired one yet.

I’ve had every model since the original (I upgrade every year).

I’ve never dropped a phone. I did put one through the laundry (my 3GS. doh!), but I treat these things like the premium items they are. No drops.

I’ve never put a case on one and I never will. I don’t see the point in owning such a top notch device only to have it wrapped in a cheap piece of plastic. I want to interact with, and experience, my iPhone, not a case by Spigen (or whoever).

If you don’t want a case, don’t use one. Just learn to be mindful of your device whenever you use it.
