Black IMHO

Wow, it only took me a few hours to realize this iPad is not for me. I'm already using my iPad Air 2 to write this post. I only wish the Apple Store had some on display so I didn't buy it. Reading is the number one thing I do on my iPad so I should have know better.

I'll give it another shot tomorrow but it's just a little too big for me. The added weight is the most notable drawback. Split screen isn't drastically different from Air 2. It is very immersive being so large but that also makes you have to scan your eyes a lot more to see everything. As others have said amazing for watching video and I'm sure it will be great with the apps which support the pencil. Just like most new Apple devices it needs developers to catch up. Even Apples built in apps don't use all the new space that effectively. I think iOS 10 could be a pretty big step for the converged device. Maybe even a converged OS?

It's definitely larger than I had expected, albeit was a pleasant surprise. One may compare the size to being ever so slightly larger than a box of Cheerios. The on-screen keyboard is a standard Apple desktop keyboard, so if you're not doing heavy text editing, is a fine substitute for the smart keyboard.

I haven't played with it too much but due to its thinness, the iPad doesn't feel particularly heavy. I think balanced is an excellent word for this. Speaker quality is absolutely superb by the way, and readying text is an absolute joy.

The speed is fast and fluid - no lag or freezing so to speak. This thing is benchmarking really high in tests, so I don't really expect there to be any real issues with regards to speed. All in all, I'm very pleased with this product. So much so, that I'm considering taking my Surface Pro 4 back to the store.

Edit: I attached a picture of the onscreen keyboard

Omg I almost want one just to have an onscreen keyboard with a number row :p

I'm don't understand why so many people are surprised about the size of the iPad Pro. Didn't they see the dimensions before plunking down their money on this thing? This is clearly for anyone who wants a "ginormous" iPad

Because the pictures don't do it justice, I was expecting 2 iPad mini's glued together but it's much bigger then that, it really only hit me how big it is when I got the Smart Cover box in the Apple Store.

Lots of interesting options at the moment that I'm bouncing between.

iPad pro, surface pro 4, Lenovo miix 700, HP spectre X2.

I have a desktop for some work so any device would be a companion. My wife had a surface pro 3 for a whe but didn't get o with it so now she has a normal laptop (zenbook). But I liked it a lot. The adjustable kickstand and keyboard with trackpad made it very usable as a Windows laptop. But it was bulky and heavy when used as a tablet, and Windows 10 just isn't touch friendly enough to use it as an 'only' tablet so I'd need to keep my iPad Air. Basically comes down to whether I think iPad will get enough app support to be good enough as a laptop replacement, vs how quickly Windows 10 will become more touch friendly and get more apps that can work properly in tablet mode. I lean towards iPad on this for now.

If I got the iPad pro though, I might be able to sell the air (I have a 6s plus if I need something more compact), which would save a lot of money. But the limited tilt and no trackpad is putting me off (tried using Bluetooth keyboards and you can use the cursor keys to move and select text but it is clumsy).

Ironically it seems like the iPad would be a better productivity tool for photo editing when used I conjunction with another PC. Lightroom mobile and photoshop fix/mix all sync with a host computer via the Adobe cloud service, but I don't think a full laptop like a surface pro 4 does. It could use full Lightroom but my main catalog and backups etc are all done on my desktop.

I don't think the iPad pro is something you can decide on with a quick in store test. Luckily both apple and MS have good return policies so it might be better to do 2 weeks with each device before deciding which works best for me.

That's reasonable. It takes a while; best not to rush, as it can be counterproductive. Right now, i'm planning on selling my SP4 (I just got) and keep the iPad Pro. But this may change in a week or two. It's not a big deal, with the holiday returns.

Thanks for the feedback, buddy.

And that onscreen keyboard looks superb ...

I haven't seen any lag and it is generally very snappy. I love having my browser open and Tweetbot opened in split view. I'm already in love! Can't wait for my pencil now!

I'm looking forward to browsing the web, while watching TV or Netflix via PIP ...

Can you take it outside in the public and take pictures with it? :D Just to show other people that are using regular iPads to take pictures that there's a new king in town. LOL.

I bought the iPad Pro today from the Apple Store and my return date is 1/8/16 so plenty of time to figure out if it's a keeper or not.

Wow that is saying alot of you are selling a fully capable OS for the Ipad Pro. And The surface pro 4 isn't any slouch either, its legit.

I spent at least an hour or so playing with this gigantic beat at the Apple Store in Perth, (I live in Australia) and i have to say this thing is too gigantic for me to consider. It's really well crafted though, beautiful and launching Word on it is the perfect dream for writing and using along side with spreadsheeting for office productivity (with multi tasking).

For me, I don't think i could justify going to a bigger size, not for what I use the iPad Air 2 as a consumption device and then again it's not really aimed to be a consumer device, more Pro for productivity, which is I won't do on the iPad thats where my MacBook and Toshiba PC comes in.

I did love the screen size and the clarity, it's just amazing. The Screen density was amazing too. i don't think i can fault this tablet at all. I think it's perfectly made.

I love the Pencil too, that thing is just tops!

Keep in mind that after your 14 day period, you will only get Apple Gift Cards. NOT CASH OR CREDIT CARD RETURN CREDIT. Please check apple to confirm. they told me this today.

I think that store was trying to discourage returns. If you truly wrap it up as a gift, it only makes sense to offer the returns even for a refund until just after the holidays. Otherwise, people would keep delaying their purchases and maybe buy something else, that is why these policies exist.

They don't want you having to wait until Dec 17th to buy for the holidays.

...the primary reason I made the purchase is due to 'Old Eyes Syndrome'

You know, I didn't buy it specifically for that reason (though I do use a 28" monitor at work cuz I refuse to get bifocals), but that thought did occur to me last night while I was browsing the NY Times app. I notice that many apps aren't using the extra space -they're just larger. Scaled. Even where it would make sense to simply flow text differently. It feels like I'm reading one of those giant print Bibles they make for seniors

Some scale references:

It fits in my 13" Macbook Air slip - case
The screen can display an entire current gen comic book page without scaling.
Most magazines would display unscaled.

So yeah, it's gigantic, but until more apps start to exploit the space better, I think the scaling just makes it feel more so.

The Surface Pro is a no go for me. I don't like using it per se. The trackpad isn't nearly as good as the Macbooks and the touch screen drives me crazy (sometimes I hit a link on a website and a box opens up to open in a new window, I want it opened on the window I am in now not a new one) and I have to touch the screen too many times to go to where I want to.

The thing isn't a very good tablet for me the way I want to use it. And it has locked up on me too many times as far as I'm concerned.

It's not that, I have a Macbook also. The iPad Pro is a second device. So in other words, having 2 "fully capable" OS's is redundant.

mine arrived all boxed up this morning by courier! and thats where it'll stay until the weekend when i'll finally have to to open it and set it up. even tempted to keep it boxed up until the keyboard arrives next week (hopefully) too :)

in case i missed it, what ios version is shipped with it?
