Apple must have realised that people are not willing to pay a four digit figure for a phone. Better later than never. Their arrogant strategy was punished by customers and the iPhone X basically flopped, which is good. I just feel sorry for all the iPhone X customers that basically paid an outrageous price just to be beta testers of an immature product.

Oh please. Spoken like someone who has never picked up a X. Most X owners are happy with their investment that will last them a long time.

The iPhone X doesn’t feel like an immature product, unless you considered the iPhone 4, 5 and 6 as immature products (which you probably purchased at least one of). Now, let’s be real here, if the X was less expensive, let’s say 200-300 less, you would own one right now, amirite?

I'd pay it for dual SIM. I don't think it's coming though as somebody would have discovered code in a beta by now.

Lol. There has never been an iPhone X Plus, so you can’t say “second-generation iPhone X Plus”

Apple's second-generation iPhone X and so-called iPhone X Plus could be priced from $899 and $999 respectively in the United States, according to RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani.

Daryanani said the current iPhone X has experienced "limited success" at $999 and up, leading him to believe that lowering the base price by $100 could reinvigorate sales of the 5.8-inch model. A widely rumored 6.5-inch model, dubbed iPhone X Plus, would then fill the $999 price point.

While this is merely a prediction from one analyst, the strategy could make sense if iPhone X sales have slowed significantly, as a series of supply chain reports have suggested. We won't know for sure until Apple's next earnings report, likely to be released around late April or early May.

At this point, all we know is that the iPhone X was likely a key contributor to Apple's record-breaking revenue of $88.3 billion last quarter, easily topping its previous all-time high of $78.4 billion set in the year-ago quarter. Whether that momentum carried forward to the current quarter remains to be seen.

Based on Daryanani's research note, obtained by MacRumors, here's our take on how the next iPhone lineup could look in terms of pricing:6.5-inch second-generation iPhone X Plus: $999
5.8-inch second-generation iPhone X: $899
6.1-inch mid-range iPhone X with LCD: $799
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus: $549 and $669
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: $449 and $569
iPhone SE: $349Here's a rough idea of how the next iPhone lineup could look if Apple maintains its current pricing strategy instead:6.5-inch second-generation iPhone X Plus: $1,099
5.8-inch second-generation iPhone X: $999
6.1-inch mid-range iPhone X with LCD: $799
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus: $549 and $669
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: $449 and $569
iPhone SE: $349Apple will likely unveil its next iPhones in September as usual, and presumably only the company's top executives are privy to pricing plans.

Please don't feel sorry for me. I am happy to be a "beta tester" for the best iPhone ever.

Based on what? Musings from a Wall Street sell side analyst? Since Apple doesn’t disclose sales by model and fiscal Q2 results won’t be announced until early May nobody knows how well (or not) the X is selling besides Apple. And on the last earnings call Tim Cook said the X was Apple’s best seller every week since it had gone on sale. I think I’ll trust Tim Cook over a Wall Street analyst. What qualifies as news and rumors these days is complete garbage. Also just because some people think the X is too expensive or not a good product and want it to be a failure doesn’t mean it is.

Oh yeah I’m sure we can all believe what Cook says, your comment is also incredibly hypocritical as on one hand you claim we don’t know Apples sales figures because they don’t release them do should ignore what analysts say, then on the other we should believe it when Cook says it’s sold loads but again does not back that up with any sales figure facts......

Meanwhile we have had countless reports of suppliers having their iPhone X component orders cut in half! That is a very clear message it has NOT sold as well as expected.
And unsurprisingly the competition has undercut Apples pricing and we see rumours Apple will cut prices of the new iPhones this year..

Why so pessimistic... (about the 10-15 year range)? I'd cut that to 3-8 years myself. We already have a feel for how that goes:
  • A bunch of of us will proudly gush "...but who makes the most profitable phone" (which would certainly be the case at $2K) every chance we get, and,
  • A bunch of us will rationalize it to ourselves- and then aggressively to anyone else- by pushing the payment plan amounts "only $8.XX more per month". Stretch out the term long enough and a $2K phone can still be "only $8.XX more per month." (as can a $3K phone, a $4K phone and a $5K phone).

Yeap, those payment plans which are stupidly expensive for the iPhone X.. on the U.K. it seemed to be the norm for plans of £60 or more a month plus a payment for the phone itself! No way would I ever pay that contract price!

You need to re-read the article. It clearly states “So called” iPhone X Plus, Which it is obviously referring to the 2018 iPhone X model.

Direct quote from the article:

“Apple's second-generation iPhone X and so-called iPhone X Plus could be priced from $899 and $999 respectively”

The issue for me is that the X is not wide enough. Lots of wasted space on videos and the keyboard is also too tiny. I want the keyboard of the Plus

I love the X, but I am finding that I miss my Plus keyboard. I will likely go for the X Plus or whatever they call it. I kind of hate it because I like the X size otherwise.

Argh.

If they give the new iPhone band 71 for T-Mobile, 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAM and it can hold a signal where my V30 can... I might upgrade.

If not, well guess I'll be moving towards another Android or staying with my current setup.

Now that's marketing talking there. As someone who manages MDM and 3rd Party Access on user owned phones, That's not the case in most instances. Cameras, screen sizes and such are pretty much selfie tools for Snapchat at best. Tools for productivity ..right...

You think it's 'marketing' talk to suggest that smartphones are very commonly used as productivity tools? Employers don't hand iPhones out like candy because they're worried about Snapchat streaks.

Oh, and there's zero chance I'd allow anyone to activate MDM software on my owned iPhone. "Just give me the company phone then..."

Obviously. But that doesn't mean it makes sense to me. If someone thinks (hypothetically) an exclusive 2018 Animoji is worth $400 I think they need help.

I don't know anyone upgrading for new Animojis, but I and many others will be upgrading from the iPhone X to the iPhone X Plus. Presumably it will have a larger screen and a faster processor, maybe some more RAM--all of which I'll be glad to have. I'm guessing my X will be worth $650 or so around then, with the new phone costing $1250, so probably $600 to upgrade. I like to be on the bleeding edge of this technology, so I'm OK with that.

Anyway, I can promise you that I don't 'need help' for upgrading every year. I enjoy getting the latest and greatest and if I'm 100% comfortable with the cost, why does anyone else care?

I'll keep on rocking with my 8 plus until they get the notch downsized some more. My friend has a X and I'm not feeling it. I want a Plus sized X with minimum notch. Holding off until 2019.
Everything else equal, the notch should be less wide in relative terms on a larger screen (less tall also but probably that is less noticeable).

Still overpriced for relatively mid range iPods with calling capability. They also still need to get rid of screen cancer (notch), reintroduce Touch ID in-screen and use higher capacity batteries. Pricing should be as follows.

iPhone SE2 $299
iPhone 8S $399
iPhone 8S Plus $499
iPhone X2 LCD $599
iPhone X2 $699
iPhone X2 Plus $799

Should be... but I'm afraid that's a pipe dream.

If those were the prices, they'd sell like crazy. Or more crazy.

No, I believe the original X will be removed from the lineup. Obviously still available from private sellers.
[doublepost=1522075890][/doublepost]

Logic is refreshing.

Ya, that means they shouldn’t be selling it at a premium price if the 2nd gen comes down, so we should be able to get in a decent price range, my guess $799

The X? Rumor is the X will be discontinued when the next gen model comes out at a lower cost. Apparently Apple won't keep selling the 2017 X. The 6.1 will hit the price point you mention.

I feel so stupid getting the X. I cringe every time I see my AT&T bill. Only myself to blame. I know.

I think owning the X really hammered home how ridiculous, IMO, it is to spend this much on an iPhone monthly. It's not like a mind-blowingly better experience than my previous phone, the 6S Plus.

I trust rumors/fake news because i agree with their news, i don't trust Tim because it doesn't validate my theory.
